osu! thread

Faye Valentine · 2018-03-25 07:56
Checked the catalog and didn't see a thread for this. Does lainon play osu? What's your PP? Any tablets? How long have you been playing? Favourite beatmaps? A few days ago I got into an account I've been locked out of for a year, and I've been having so much fun, despite the fact that I'm still a scrub. Songs above 4 stars are impossible for me, I have no idea how a human can get through something like that without a tablet, let alone get an A or above.

I'm on linux and meddle around with opsu! every now and then About a couple of month on and off. Favourite song to play is Sunset Teacup - YUCe // Rumia, but I'm still pushing myself on difficultly levels so I wouldn't say I have a favourite beatmap from it. OP, you didn't tell us your favourites!

I used to play, 4-5 years ago. Have been thinking of getting back into it lately so it's funny to see this thread. My PP is 2226 I use the same tablet I use for drawing and painting, wacom intuos pen & touch small I played for about a year when I played actively. I forgot the titles of all my favorite beatmaps. From what I remember, 4star songs and onwards is where the game starts to get really fun. I did use a tablet though, but I don't think it changes much there's always a bunch of mouse users in top players.

I've upped my PP from ~300 to 582 with these past few days, and gone from around #690 000 to #380 000. I can get a FC or a near FC with 4 star songs if I try multiple times, sometimes 5 star songs as well, but I have several issues that are more mental than anything. Whenever I pass a part I've been stuck on for a long time, my heart rate quickens and my head becomes hot, I become anxious and because of that anxiety I sometimes fail. I also have, for a lack of a better word, compulsions when I'm playing. There's a strong desire to roll my eyes, or touch a part of my keyboard that's between my click keys (or caps lock), or try to crack my jaw, or touch my mouse's rubber scroll wheel with the side of my index finger just to feel the sensation. I have to fight those urges really hard while also concentrating on getting all the beats right, that also makes stuff more difficult. Physically, I find it really difficult to do spinners quick enough, I've tried to approach it calmly and also with a lot of force (to the point where I'm using my abs to give my arm more power), but the sweet spot seems to be somewhere in between. My mouse also keeps sliding slowly downwards throughout the song, so for example if I start the song at the top of my mouse mat, by the time I'm halfway through without a chance to lift my mouse during a break/long spinner, my mouse is on the bottom edge of the mouse mat. I googled around and it seems to be normal for some reason, raw input didn't change it either. This fuarrrks with my performance too. >>819 oops https://osu.ppy.sh/beatmapsets/466758#osu/1241226 - SEL opening at 3.66 stars https://osu.ppy.sh/beatmapsets/62205#osu/206338 - A DJ Yosoykafaka song (they all sound similar to be honest) at 2.15 https://osu.ppy.sh/beatmapsets/662892#osu/1403103 - Saint Pepsi's Enjoy Yourself at 3.35 (but it's a bit harder, because the circles are quite small) https://osu.ppy.sh/beatmapsets/719200#osu/1520628 - MarbleVirus at 3.48 stars >>836 For some reason I thought that most graphing tablets would have too much input lag to play the game.

I used to play for a few hours every week, but then my hands started to hurt. Also since I don't use windows weird issues started to manifest with each new wine update. Once my mouse input got messed up so that pointer kept moving to upper left corner without moving it there consciously. This becomes very annoying during gameplay as offset accumulates and forces your hand to adjust for it. Due to that I started playing taiko, but had to stop because my eyes started to hurt for some reason. Weird thing is, that there is no such issue with mania for me, so I mostly played that. Then that also became problematic when things got harder as my old rubber dome keyboard couldn't keep up with the the speed. I actually went and made capacitive keys from alu foil, connected them to microcontroller and tried playing with that, but it didn't work as well as I had hoped it would. The thing that finally made me give up the game were problems with wine - game just didn't run anymore. 622pp standard (54h) 1123pp taiko (35h) 60pp ctb (51m) 670pp mania (44h) joined 2 years ago

Almost 5k pp in osu!mania, only play 4k though, up to 6* if the beatmap is favourable, otherwise 5-5.5*. Can consistently S songs under 5*. (I still consider myself a noob, hope to get to top 1k someday.)

>>816 Not anymore. 1428pp. Huion 420. 3 years. Packet Hero (toykii's diff), Crack Traxxxx (oko's diff) and Ikanaide (insane diff). Decided to quit around a month after getting my first 100+ pp score by a rather.. strange way by breaking my tablet in two pieces. I really couldn't stop playing this game because it was the only one i was somewhat good at, but around 15th~ january after 30 minutes of playing my right hand would start to hurt really badly. I was ignoring the pain, though. Then one day i decided that i should just end it, because it might grow into some kind of a hand problem.

only osu!mania here as well, albeit on a lower level - 4-5* >>839

>>816 I have started playing recently but I think I'm pretty bad. Only around 900pp using keyboard and mouse, and I've been regularly playing for maybe 3 or 4 months now. I'm at the point where I can finish almost any 3 star map, but I struggle a lot with 4+.
Neuromancer · 2018-04-05 08:28
I haven't in a while, and now a days I only play opsu because I had issues with getting osu lazer working and the old osu is proprietary software. This year I've stopped using all proprietary software on my computers except nonfree javascript, but I've been slowly weaning myself off of it + finding or creating alternatives

Joined July, 2016. I use an XP-Pen G430 with the max possible 16:9 area. (102.4mmx57.6mm) Offline player (can FC 5*) I like longer beatmaps with an array of things, I'm probably best at streams though.

>>816 >PP 5336 >Tablet CTL-490. It's soykaf for osu!, don't buy it. >How long have you been playing Since May 2014 >Favourite beatmaps I don't have one. I have a slow progress and hit a skill wall very early. Spent soykaf tons of time on this game and gained not much from it. I can't play anything beyond 210bpm and pretty much can only play no mod (learning HR tho, but still incapable of reading HD). Nowadays I just play offline for fun and watch my rank drops. I can't even replicate some of my score from 2 years ago.

I adore this game, but I'm terrible at it. I have the promo osu tablet thing, it's fairly neat. Been playing...7 years now, but only seriously for around 4.

My PP is 4650 and I haven't played for a while since I've switched to mania My tablet is a Wacom bamboo and you can add me as Funkez if you want. Favorite beatmap: Cold as Ice

>>816 With less than 500 hours in the game, about 6-7k pp over three years ago, but haven't looked back at the game since. Also, the game simply isn't what it used to be. Call me an old complainer, but what I see is that > The community has wrecked itself into a leaking garbage bin, infested with obnoxious children in the in-game chat and many online fora. > The ranking system is being quite heavily abused by above-average players, though you could call it consistent in some sense. > The game has tools capturing your desktop "in an effort to catch cheaters", furthermore they log a lot of system data such as running processes, system hardware IDs and such (could have changed throughout the years, there was a reddit post about it once). I would like to limit my rant and also praise the game, it was fun for the time, and met some nice people too (heck, there is even a big meetup in Brabanthallen right now!). Getting back into it would be very time consuming, besides, I've decayed beyond recognition. I don't see myself coming back, but this was my opinion.

>>816 i used to play moderately a few years ago, highest rank i've ever got was like 35k, played with mouse and keyboard. I love Super Nuko World and Tengaku.
