Hello, no idea where to post this, so i'll post it here.
cna.neocities.org I made a small website for those that like going out into the dark of night. When you load the page, it selects a challenge out of a list. Said challenge is meant to make you go out and give you a purpose in doing so, so you can have little nocturnal adventures.
Now, i need your help.
I have racked my brain to come up with cool challenges, but i need even cooler challenges, and i need a lot more of them. This is where you come in.
In this thread you can post your ideas for cool challenges to add to the list.
For example, a challenge i like a lot is "throw a stone into water". It sounds very simple, but think about it. Unless it's been raining or you have a river or something nearby, it might be tricky. You'd have to find an item, a stone, then find a specific spot, decently deep water, so you can perform a specific action, throwing the stone into it. You can't really cheat your way out of it.
There are other challenges such as "find a blue house", "hide twenty bucks somewhere, and retrieve it the next night", and many others.
You can see the entire list of challenges i made so far on my website, cna.neocities.org, just by viewing the source. You'll also be able to tell me on how to improve the code while you're at it!
And you can even download the website html for offline use.
We are assuming that the intrepid adventurers live in at least a town, that the town isn't very lively at night, and that they prefer to not encounter other humans.
I hope my little project will become well known, get a lot of cool new challenges, entertain many people and bring them happiness, and teach them how to better enjoy the night. I eagerly await your suggestions. Carpe Noctem!

I know it's not super interactive, but the interaction part would happen when the user makes new challenge suggestions to be added to the list.
Feel free to remove thread or move it to wherever it's supposed to be. I just didn't know where it belongs best.

I take that back. The website is simply horrible and unworkable. I can't register at all and actually need to be registered to even view topics, meaning it's useless.

Swing on a playground swing at night might be fun. Not likely any kids around so probably dont have to worry accidentally knocking one over.
How about ride public transport anywhere random with no underwear? But that is just my thinking of running into a cute girl turned exhibitionist lol
>Identify a type of bird present in the city
At night? There is so few birds that are active at night and even though I hear owls all the time I have never seen one and I live in the country. I can't imagine someone in the city finding a bird at night.

I immediately added it! Thank you lainon!
>bird too hard
Turned it into Spot a single bird or evidence of its presence

I used to do alot of night walks during my high school years. One thing I liked to do alot was pulling up my mp3 player, listen to a full album and try end up back home by the end of that album.
Eventually you learn to guess on average how much time you spent outside just by tracking how many songs played in the album. 3 songs passed on Red by King crimson? that's about 20 minutes.

Just added Go for a walk for the duration of your favourite album - idk how to word it better

that'll do just fine :)
These are my fancy stilts to pass the "Your body must be this tall" check! Aren't they so functional? They even saged the post, too!

I see, I hadn't visited the forum in a long time so I was unaware there were problems. When I tried to go there it threw some DB connection limit errors, but then started loading forum pages fine a couple of minutes later, so maybe it's an intermittent issue at worst.
It looks like the "Night Ops and Urban Exploration" and "Bad Ideas" forums are restricted to registered users while the others are viewable without logging in. Those two forums are where people might post potentially incriminating stories or plans, so the admins must have done this with the intention of erring on the side of caution with regard to opsec.
I just tested registration on the forum and I was able to submit the form and received the confirmation email. If you have problems, just retry later when you find the forum pages load in a reasonable time, and answer the bot-filter question about the spider with a word (I didn't test if a numeral also works).
The library section (wiki) has a lot of the good core info and doesn't seem to have the same problems as the forum does (or, at least not at the same time).

Oh this is a nice idea, I do go out in the night a lot. I'll think of something to do.
藤原純一 · 2024-04-12 23:39
That's a cute idea. I like going out and sing where no one can hear me. Maybe you can add something like "sing a song for yourself"
Wintermute · 2024-04-13 04:10

Yes but you have to be realistic, if the challenge you get is to sing a song for yourself, you can do that from your computer chair. One must add in the call of the night.

Well, all the challenges aren't explicit about going outside. I can find phone numbers on the yellow pages, and I can disinfect my bedroom's doorknob
Cutter · 2024-04-13 05:31

Yes but the implication is always that you are already outside and loading up the page on your phone or something and it applies to your surroundings. Therefore finding a phone number and disinfecting a doorknob is justified, but singing a song to yourself is something you would do instantly without even lifting your eyes off the screen, which is pointless
