Lainchan minetest server

I made a Minetest server for us. It's in creative mode with some extra privileges granted. Host: lainchan.ftp.sh Port: 30000

What do you guys think of this? As there are more threads the board grows horizontally. More posts means more vertical height. And anyone can make their own boards or chan (by placing their boards next to each other).

What I always complained is MT based on UDP connection, which is cut regularly in my country. So have to play with a VPN/proxy. And MT client does not support proxy settings. You have to wrap it with something like proxychains

some guy named fadetime was on there insulting new users and calling them griefers. I wouldn't doubt he's the griefer.

confirmed, there's a user on there called "fadetime" claiming to be admin, breaking stuff.

Ya, I just went onto the server, and immediately was accosted by "fadetime". I'm not interested in playing on a server with little kids like that ruining everything I build. I wouldn't be surprised if >>794 was the griefer. Immediate deflection, bogus nonsense about wireshark.

Admin here. I rolled back all the griefing. The culprit was ValdBagina and all the other identities that IP used. fadetime was the good guy.

I'm closing the server down, but I'm uploading a torrent of everything you'll need to host it yourself. On Debian, minetest.conf belongs in /etc/minetest/ and .minetest belongs in /var/games/minetest-server/. You can get the subdomain lainchan.ftp.sh for free on https://freedns.afraid.org/. I unregistered it so it's first come first serve now. What can you do in minetest other than exploring and building? I've seen some sweet mods for this game but the multiplayer servers mostly seem like lego sandboxes. Am I missing something?

Minetest is so calming. #/g/punk had one for a while and they mutually built a nuclear reactor and automated ore processing.

i knew this soykaf would be down the moment i saw the date on the thread i can't download the original map but i'll test out the server to see how it runs, and if it doesn't bother my websites, i'll keep it hosted so long as people show interest.

You might want to post the launch date and have a sort of "grand opening" in order to get a few people on at once. Otherwise, I would expect a pattern of people popping in, seeing no apparent activity, and leaving. If it's necessary to go to this extreme, you might even open the server only at regular intervals.

Does anybody else think minetest is abnormally dark? I can't see anything at night or indoors without a huge amount of torches.

Alright, so which of you thought it was a good idea to dig so deep into my mine that I had time to contemplate my predicament before hitting the ground as dying after I assumed the ladder on the wall would continue? (It did not.) What kind of maniac digs that deep with no plan for getting back out? I died multiple times trying to safely reach the bottom of the shaft and recover my lost items.

Does anyone else get this weird keyboard problem? Keys seem to me mismapped in the game, when I try to edit controls, the names it shows are not the names of the keys, (e.g "z" is called "6" for some reason) and when I press "r" the game quits. I tried running from terminal, where each keystroke throws "Could not find EKEY_CODE, using orig. X11 keycode instead:" followed by a number, which i suppose is the number of the keycode. not all keys don't work, but when I tried typing the server name "lainchan.fpt.sh" it only showed "inchn.ftp.h". Isn't that strange? Using Minetest 4.17.1

I was on when it happened. The server just went down due to an 'internal error'. It just needs to be restarted

Most Linux Systems have Minetest in their depositories. However many of them are out of date. If yours is obsolete you will need to install it using Flatpak or compile from source. It wasn't even artful, they just took stuff from chests and placed it over everyone's builds. I was on at the time it took them less than 4 hours; There might be some grief I don't know about though

i set up minetest as a service so it should restart on its own on reboot rollback has been enabled (seems it's disabled by default) so it's now meaningless to try to grief the server 90% of the damage has been reverted enjoy

We might not be able to use Technic without creating a new world or somehow re-generating the ores. Seems like all the basic machines require machine casings to craft, and to make said casings you need brass, which is made by alloying copper and zinc. The latter of which we don't have because it's not part of vanilla Minetest. I'm not sure what can be done.

Is the server still running? Can´t connect in the moment, it says I have to set a password and then I can´t procceed with the login. Anybody experiencing the same?

did an update on the server and now it doesn't start. the next time the repo is updated, i'll run an update again and hopefully it'll be fixed.

When I enter the server, it's pitch black and I have no means by which to orient myself. I can't even tell if I'm standing on ground. Is this a recognized problem?

Any lainons interested in playing AssaultCube? It's a FOSS first person shooter, kinda like mix of all counter strikes, pretty easy to get started and large amounts of maps. The community is small though.

Is it permissable to do self-promotion in this thread? I want to check before I do. I have a server I've run for several months, plan on keeping as a long-term thing, and it's been heavily modded and tested as so not to just be legos. I've hosted for a dozen or so people. I thought it may be appreciated here.

You can also connect nodes to make flying ships (with a pretty expensive recipe naturally), pretty sure I left a flying nimbus up on an island somewhere.
