The last good Sonic game. Gens doesn't count because it's all nostalgia and the only original part of it (Time Eater boss) is like kicking dead whales down the beach

is this sonic unleashed? it's hard to tell because I only played the ps2 version and it was a significant downgrade. honestly I liked colors a lot which I think came after it. I know it gets a lot of hate for being generic and having a lot of mario type sections where there isn't much support for the momentum based physics, but it controls well and the whisps system is pretty cool and I like the especially cheery vibes. also I hear a lot of people like mania but I've never played it myself.

I am playing the first Sonic game now. It's really fun. I was surprised that at times it seems slower than Mario. I expected it to be faster paced with more flowing levels.

You can see the fundementals of a sonic game (speed and platforming) but because it was the first game they were still working out kinks that don't appear later and finding their footing. Funnily enough everytime sonic team try a new style of gameplay it ends up like that. Sonic 1, Adventure 1, 06 and Frontiers. Sonic rush technically counts as the first boost game I think but I never viewed it that way, the rush game feel like their own thing

One thing that stands out to me is how well the sound design is. Because I don't really play video games I've only heard green hill zone. All the other tracks are fantastic too. What is your favorite song from the Sonic series in general? On difficulty I am also surprised at how easy it is, but has some really bad spikes in certain parts. The water levels with the rocks floating up gave me some trouble. Not sure how you're supposed to react and survive without foreknowledge. Luckily the checkpoints really help with difficulty adjustment.

It was pretty hard when I was young but you just kinda get a muscle memory for high speed platformers after a while. Probably was a lot of bugs, the spike glitch is the worst of them apart from softlocks, but I think you can zoom by ducking and jumping at the right moment to confuse vertical scrolling almost from anywhere. But that's after actual decades with this game (Werd to say that when you're 25, huh) My favourite track from sonic 1 16bit has got to be the spring yard zone. From the whole sonic franchise it's too hard to pick one. Almost every game is amazing and there are standalone albums and tonnes of remixes. Plus the vocal themes are in their own league. Really can't choose. (my parents got a bootleg mega drive 2 with 99 games inside the console for my 4th birthday in 2002 and the first one was sonic 1) though I'm not sure I could beat it without the code to skip levels. Definitely never collected all of the chaos emeralds. Ironically I almost never played sonic 2, wasn't a popular cartridge among among kids I exchanged with, but played sonic 3 and sonic& knuckles a lot separately because the bootleg s&k didn't have a lock on feature. Lots of weird in modern context memories. I remember visiting a guy's birthday party and he had RoboCop 2 for a bootleg famicom and he managed to convince me that it was a better console somehow. I later got it a few years later with a keyboard and a weird cartridge for a typing game. I also first heard of knuckles as some cool character from a game. The reason he was cool was that he collected rings with rubies in them or something strange and untrue like that. Much later it was so wieird reading about sonic in the internet and learning about werehog and soykaf like that, I only saw a little bit of Sonic X here and there on TV until much later when I got my hands on a bootleg sonic heroes without the cutscenes and with reduced sound effects. Later I got SADX and became an Uber fan that I remain to be to this day

Unexpectedly, Chao are not in the first game. I thought for sure I would see an appearance because they are iconic in culture. I replayed the game with save states this weekend to beat it 100%. Is there something I'm missing with the secret zones? Seems almost impossible to gain all the Chaos Emeralds in one playthrough unless you are really lucky. Do the Chaos Emeralds you get stay forever no matter the playthrough? I don't think I'll become a super fan, but Sonic 1 is a timeless fun game that lived up to expectations. I am playing through lots of old games at the moment, but I'm sure I'll get to Sonic 2 in a bit.

Chao are from Sonic Adventure 1 You need to get 50 rings and jump into a ring at the end of any stage that doesn't have a bios at the end exep5 for scrap brain zone where that doesn't happen. That means there are potentially 10 attempts for 6 emeralds. You also get continues from special stages. No, there is no memory in the cartridge so you get one run to collect all the emeralds. That functionality is only in Sonic 3(&k). Sonic 2 is considered an all time classic so yeah. You get a spindash, no mandatory water level so you can really zoom in that one. Recommend playing without tails though, he can get you killed at the bosses and ruin special stages. Heads up in that game you need to collect 50 rings and jump into ring of stars over a checkpoint. That means you can get all 7 by the end of the first zone if you know all of the locations and do them in order. Not really nessesary because you can get in at ge end of the first act of the second zone quite comfortably. Getting all 7 chaos emeralds and collecting 50 rings turns you into super sonic. I would strongly recommend the taxman remakes, they are the superior versions of 1, 2 and cd. For sonic 3 sonic A.I.R. is pretty good. PS Don't play sonic 4 right after them.

Sonic 1 is more focused on platforming and I enjoy more speedy gameplay, so I like 2 and 3 more. Fun fact: European players had even slower Sonic 1 because of 50Hz PAL standard back then lmao. Same thing with Advance series, I didn't like Advance 1 very much because it was slow and worlds there are somehow bland (Casino zone without any slot machines lmao), but I enjoyed 2 and 3. >>6941 You can also try Sonic CD (Japan/PAL version has better music imo) and Advance series. Mania is also good.
