Lains Play tabletop RPGs

Leto Atreides I · 2023-01-23 07:36
Does anyone want to play some rpgs? I can never find a decent group IRL so I thought I would try here. Suggestions: - Cyberpunk2020 - Cyberpunk RED - Delta Green
Otacon · 2023-01-24 07:52
This might not be exactly what you had in mind, however, I was thinking about potentially making a group on FFXIV for the lains here, but I am not sure how many lains here play it.

Sounds like fun. I'd be up for it, assuming it isn't PbP/text based. Nothing wrong with that playstyle, it's just not my thing. Coincidentally, I started getting into Cyberpunk RED just last week. I'm familiar with CoC so I imagine it wouldn't be too difficult to mentally pivot to DG either.

Where would it be played? I'm good as either DM or player for Cyberpunk 2020

>>6588 >>6589 I was imagining through Fantasy Grounds or roll20, I don't think I'm up for DMing but I'd be happy to put together a space online.

>>6591 One of my coworkers really likes tabletop simulator, its available on steam so normal people can use it too. I'm not really a fan of steam, but the simulator also has VR support as a potential lain hangout.

>>6586 I've been wanting to play skirmishes or war campaigns using Dungeons and Dragons or BasicFantasy, a Dungeons and Dragons homebrew. I also have been wanting to do some survival scenarios using MYFAROG. Basically I am not interested in the "acting" aspects of roleplaying but instead want to do some dungeon crawling, combat, and survival. Also, that Sword RPG from Japan game catches my interest.

I used to play a lot of play-by-post forum rpgs, back when that was a thing. I'd like to start something like that again, if we could scrape enough Lainons and an old fashioned forum together. Do we have anybody here who has GM'ed, and in what systems?
Packet · 2023-03-10 06:45
I could help op! >>6586 I've gmed before, and we could get some people together if you want

Some things to also consider besides platform is timezone. I'm willing to join if no knowledge of the system is OK (I'll make an effort to learn) and timezone / regularity is tolerable.

also interested in a play by post system. definitely would be good for different timezones

>>6589 I'm willing to make a discord or XMPP groupchat to organize this. First reply decides the platform to organize on.

>>6783 I guess we can ask for a channel, though I'd prefer a play-by-post system
Appleman1234 · 2023-03-23 03:16
>>6787 #rpg on the IRC exists and can either be used to as a partial platform or for additional coordination with a play by post system, or just watercooler. I have previously run a GURPS campaign on Mumble for lainons before, and used to run infrastructure for a play by post story telling RPG forum back in the day, happy to offer general support if needed, and would be willing to run GURPS or Pathfinder games if platform and timezone stuff is sorted out.

>>6586 I'd be down for some Cyberpunk 2020 or RED with Lainons, but only in a PBP/text-based environment. Just let me know when and where.
Aristóteles Amadópulus · 2023-03-27 22:45
It's so hard to find tabletop stuff. The hobby is so big now that I can't really get a group that synergizes at all
Tyrell Wellick · 2023-03-28 21:58
>>6823 That's the unfortunate part of tabletop getting trendy. The vast majority of players just want 5e/finder and tend to be people who like the idea of tabletop rpgs more than actually playing them. Trying to find players for any other system is like looking for a needle in a haystack. Incidentally my jam is World of Darkness, so I'd be willing to run one of those lines. I've also been learning the WHFRP 4e system, too.

>>6611 >Basically I am not interested in the "acting" aspects of roleplaying but instead want to do some dungeon crawling, combat, and survival. Increasingly hard to find unfortunately I know it's almost too easy to blame critical role and it's circle but it really has completely changed the wider ttrpg community not being interested in the acting part is increasingly frowned upon

>>6823 Make up the rules as we go, just have fun.
Junichi Fujiwara · 2023-04-02 16:55
>>6611 that style of play is much better suited to one-off type campaigns IMO. Otherwise it gets very monotonous playing the same character all the time.
Arisu Mizuki · 2023-05-13 22:24
>>6846 IRC then? I heard that Discord records every keystroke you ever made....
