any lainons play Gradius? definitely one of, if not the best shoot-‘em-up games to ever exist. you can also post about Salamander/Lifeforce or any other Gradius spin-off game. (III and IV for the PS2 is my top favorite, brings back childhood memories)

I've only played the 1st one for the Famicom, because i'm the kind of person that likes to play games in order; i would say it's definitely in my top 3 of famicom/nes games

I went through and single-credit cleared all the games in the original series a few years back, and included Gaiden (which I don't consider one of the originals). Stopped at Gradius IV, which felt like low-effort dogshit, and couldn't bring myself to care about V, which hardly feels like Gradius. Gradius Rebirth, on the other hand, feels like a stellar send-off to the series.

Make sure you play the arcade Japan version of Life Force, it's the definitive version of Salamander that incorporates a ton of balance improvements.
Reminder that the series that truly picked up the mantle where Gradius III left off is Parodius.

I guess anon didn't like Gradius that much after all.

I loved Gradius III on SNES as a kid. Haven't thought about this series in so long.
If I wanted to play again which game should I go to first? What's considered the pinnacle?

Gradius II is a good entry point, it represents the full formulation of series mainstays. Though you're probably going to be disappointed by others afterwards because it was also the pinnacle of the series.

I like the Parodius games a lot. Played them first on Super Famicom years ago before I knew much about the PlayStation/Saturn ports.
