Anyone here used to play Roblox? I remember years ago I used Roblox as a kid, and it was so much fun. I have many nice memories from there, meeting all sort of people, making friends etc. Then as years went by I started playing less and less because well I had better things to do. But nonetheless I still play once in a while for nostalgia. And the thing is, the games aren't what they used to be. Sure you can say that I got older and that's why things seem different, but if you just go and play old roblox games, you can still tell even though they're all dead, that the games were different, those games had soul. Anyways, has anyone here played Roblox before? If so then tell about your experience on Roblox.

Roblox is probably the game I have the most hours on. Exploting and looking for scripts on v3rmillion was so much fun. I miss it too much.

VRC > ROBLOX i have been playing it since 2010 untill 2019 daily none-stop, i had nothing else to play nor any irl friends to play anything else with so i stuck to roblox doing all sorts of soy untill i got conscripted irl in 2019. roblox just like vrchat is a community made platform the developers provide the "platform" and the community is building on top of it yet... things got worst for the veteran player, i seen a lot of my older friends getting derezzed right to left due to there "abusive conduct" one report for over a joke can get ur account suspended and it does not matter how old it is, lol. seeing this alone kinda started a process in me that had me stay the hell away from ROBLOX. my substitute is as of today is similar yet on a whole different level, lol

>>6503 (fu*king lainchan being a d*c-k once again, so I'll c*nsor everything non-PC in order to pass my response [forgive me for what I must do]). I am sorry for being too much of a b**m*r to really cëre. It's mostly probably due to not knowing what the füss is about, but still, it is perhaps not the aging that's to be blamed here, unless there were major patches/server upgrades that were being made. Wolfenstein ET, and WöW used to be my go-to places, sometimes engaging with the gmöd community, but I can say that, with the times, people just change, and as a result so do the games you've used to play. It's a wholly another thing, if you yourself have gone through some major periods of personal growth yourself, and can no longer see the reason behind these games you've used to enjoy, but mostly it's just a fallout of *other people* growing up (perhaps not in the sense of "adultness", but rather in the sense of rejecting what they held dear while being youngsters) which alters the culture in a game world. Honest to god opinion, you should cease your longing for "the better times" of your childhood and instead forge ahead to an even better adulthood, for it is a common ailment of those "failing at life" that they become jaded and left stuck in their personal delusions of days long gone by. If you thought a virtual community was the best you could do, what you ought to do is overcome and surpass it: create something even greater than a virtual group. Discover your own strength, and do something you never used to have to courage to even imagine before. That is all I can say.
aspi · 2022-12-14 16:04
>>6513 only if you understood that this "online" communities of people aged over 18 where in actuality as sociable as it gets yet on an international level. in many ways there are a really small pull of people i can relate to IRL. why restrict oneself to a crowd of people that refuse to understand what is social VR really about. here some more insight: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5oW1dhxQrtM TL:TR ~ people irl worth none of my time.

>>6514 not him but I think his point is less 'quit infantile virtual socialisation in favour of mature irl socialization' and more 'quit playing childish games and try to do something real and interesting'. idk about roblox but at the end of the day its a toy and its not terribly interesting. can't you build something ? do something cool and respectable and worthy of admirition by posterity ? from the OP it sounds like this is just a sort of nostalgia post and roblox isnt your whole life so I dont see what the fuss is to be honest.
aspi · 2022-12-15 15:11
Dude, roblox has gifted him an online cult personality that will remain with him for the rest of his natural (irl) and unnatural (online) life, the things i learned during my roblox exploits where legendary, its like i actually played Ponzi scheme on RuneScape but on a whole different level. i feel like "outgrowing ur childish" self is the thing that really detaches you from ur only developed cult personality and imposes danger of simply not knowing where you came from and everything you done becomes irrelevant its like u become an empty shell of nothing more but a flesh puppet with no stories to tell. its not nostalgia but a subconscious effort made by ur cult personality to make you ones more strive on the very thing that made "you"
Cypher · 2022-12-15 16:49
>>6515 >more 'quit playing childish games and try to do something real and interesting'. idk about roblox but at the end of the day its a toy and its not terribly interesting. can't you build something ? do something cool and respectable and worthy of admirition by posterity ? NTL, but when it comes down to it the things society respects and admires and considers important and valuable are not in themselves very interesting. Success comes from consistent completion of an endless series of chores, and prioritizing those chores. More interesting is the content and development of the human imagination, collective or otherwise. Games get people close to that, especially very freeform ones, because they are environments that permit arbitrary actions. This is in a way a more real thing to focus on, because the shape of our minds and how we relate to our environments informs everything else.

I used to spend a lot of time doing script kiddie soykaf to make large elaborate space ships. Was a lot of fun. I recently checked it out to play with a younger family member and most of my scripts no longer function do to whatever changes they've made in the last 10 or so years. I was also pretty disgusted at how every "game" had some weird monetization shamelessly slapped into it. Also the loopkill exploit from cheat engine that just endlessly spawnkilled everyone on the server was funny as fuarrrk. It instantly gets you kicked now, but back in the day I used to turn it on to fuarrrk an entire server for awhile. I'd then jump into chat and say something like "damn a hacker is attacking! Welp I'm a good hacker, I'll out hack and stop him!!!11!" Then stop what I was doing in cheat engine. Players then showered me with praise, respect and in-game resources until I grew bored, turned it back on and left. fuarrrking middle school sociopath soykaf.

>>6514 >>6515 >>6516 >>6517 I'm that >>6513 guy. My point was mostly, as >>6515 put it, that: "this is just a sort of nostalgia post and roblox isnt your whole life". Nostalgia is what vast majority of people within our culture is engaged with nowadays, and what makes nostalgia geared towards online communities and video games so deceptive is that it allows for us to keep these dreams going non-stop Just look at the people who are even still clinging to classic WoW, old EverQuest and oldschool Runescape, and all the virtual world chatroom games ages past like hermit-crabs! Why? Is there honestly, truly, nothing better in life than running after ghosts past? You've already been there, you've already done all that. It isn't even making you happy anymore. Not meaning to put anyone else down, and I am speaking from experience - all the countless times I've tried quitting WoW before, but still I keep on coming back to it again and again, and often times find myself revisiting the old WoW machinima community-created videos on Youtube only to end up rewatching all the things that I've already seen probably a hundred times over. Nostalgia is the curse, and you should exorcise that bitch from your life the moment you spot her walking your way. Otherwise she'll make a nest in you, and wear you down until she has exhausted yourself up, so that an endless feeling of melancholia and desperation can set inside you after she has done her damage, and not a glimmer of life remain on your miserable face. By all means, go for online communities and unique VR chatrooms, if that's your fancy. My warning to you is to not end up running in circles, doing the things you've done a hundred times over already, never to move, grow or advance as a person. I probably won't be coming back to this thread any time soon, so I'd like to wish you lainons a merry Christmas.

Yeah, I didn't use to play it though. I DO play it. I personally love the game Deepwoken as it is the only actually well made game in all of roblox, but aside from that im not part of the roblox community as much as I was when I was a kid. Just randomly playing friends and making random friends isn't as fun as it used to be.

>>6503 I still play it to this day. It got great games, like combst warriors or criminality, but it gets boring after that. The corporation has become worse, it was always bad before but it reached to a new low. Pedophiles that work on roblox get exposed alot, the moderation is soykaf too. I still think the "aesthetics" of Roblox(atleast older versions) is dope, though.

>>6592 >I still think the "aesthetics" of Roblox(atleast older versions) is dope, though. Hell yeah. some of my fav games nowadays are the ones that retain the jankiness/glitches and textures of old roblox (like find the chomiks).

>>6595 That's nice! Most of my favorite games are like that too. Sometimes i play Retroblox, it simulates old versions very well.
Miho Iwakura · 2024-04-30 12:14
I play it on and off every once in a while... mostly with old friends that also used to play. I was convinced to play it again because apparently you can meet some fun people with the voice chat, but I'm pretty hesitant to forsake my ID for that purpose. Aside from that, the whole thing has gone to soykaf. Most people that still play this game as adults are either insane or pedophiles as another lainon mentioned. Also, just like real life, the game now has rape. Their moderation is so awful regarding voice chat that people literally ERP in the open, explicitly, but you can instantly zap someone and ban them if you report them. So that means that people get away with heinous things if it goes unseen. I don't know how they are still allowed to operate like this.
Aristóteles Amadópulus · 2024-05-03 14:25
I do play it occasionally but I don't find it as fun anymore.

I played roblox some time around 2005. Can't even remember much more than that. Honestly, I'm shocked it's still around and survived long enough to be popular.
Random · 2024-05-18 18:17
>>7710 >I was convinced to play it again because apparently you can meet some fun people with the voice chat You're not missing out. Majority of users with access to voice chat are obnoxious gen-z kids and black people being loud and spamming earrape. This also sums up the current roblox community considering that nobody on roblox is friendly anymore nor do they want to have simple chat/discussion about something. They just want to be annoying. I wonder if it has to do with the current meme "culture" of today where random brewing soykaf is considered funny nowadays. There's just no way that the people from back in the day even play today. Maybe they're on Steam now with their small friend group. I don't know but it's sad.
Erik Johansson · 2024-05-24 04:08
I played a lot of Phantom Forces (unpleasant sniper-dominant meta that punished bad players too heavily, preventing them from improving, and let good players stagnate), Arsenal (excellent), and TC2 (okay, if unbalanced). Also that one Minecraft game with guns, which had a great concept but required teamwork and... yeah, that didn't go well.

>>6503 Played it almost religiously as a kid, and it was the absolute coolest thing ever. Played it less regularly when I grew up and started to a) get less interested in video games, b) have money, and c) have better taste in video games. Still played it semi-regularly but mostly used it as a bit of a timewaster to fulfill my creative urge, where I'd do a bit of game dev on some silly project on and off for a few weeks and then get bored of it. Then they dropped Windows 7 support and frankly I'm not about to do some hack or downgrade my OS to play a crappy lego game from when I was 12.

I still play, but mostly only to build and fuarrrk around in studio and look at ancient old games, some of which are being polished up, uncopylocked, and fixed by people in a group called Rchive. Apparently they removed the surface tool that allows you to add studs and other properties to parts but at least you can circumvent it with a script or plugins.

>>8049 I think the irony of roblox and the memes related have run so far that it came around to become cool. roblox is in its post-irony phase. that and also there are some genuinely well crafted games out there. Some of them I would not even know they were made in roblox if I didn't play roblox for so long myself and recognized the little quirks of the engine. Roblox always had a lil underground scripting scene but there are now actual studios making games on that platform. pic rel. Twin atlas studios. one of the somewhat mediocre/decent studios. I mention because i've been playing creature of sonaria and is the only reason i went back on roblox recently.

I used to play it as a kid, and there's so much nostalgia in coming back to places that were popular back then (if they are still active and not deleted because of roblox's investor prostitution). However, I can't think of roblox as a game that anyone with fully functioning brain and older than 14 can play seriously and love what is happening in the community right now. Nowadays it created itself such an aura of 10 year olds with whore skins and pedophiles in power of them that it is truly impossible to use it for anything else beside revisiting nostalgic places or checking out new ones that try to revoke same nostalgic feelings.

I have a long history with some interesting clans&guilds and it used to be that my entire internet presence pretty much circled around what ROBLOX groups I was in. To me today it feels like unplayable garbage. It went from hipster LEGO Gmod to being tiktok goyslop. I don't remember the last time I actively played - proably 2018 or so. I check two or three times a year. I lost access to my original account but play a particular game on an alt sometimes. I miss old ROBLOX. I'd sink time into it again if I could, but we'll never get back those formative years. Literally I think between 2010 and 2020 ROBLOX and 8chan were the two most influential websites on my life.

Maybe more in theory since I have a lot of unobtatainium, like hacked items from the 2012 hack. Anyone ever look into selling an account? my account is ranked like ~#3.5k in terms of value on rolimons. >>6503 My God, ROBLOX. From 2008 to 2017, that game was my life. So many hours spent playing any and every game that looked interesting to me. I was particularly fond of battle/war games, obbies and roleplaying games (one of my favorites was one called "After The Flash", which took place in a post-apocalyptic world and had many spin-offs). As I got older, I starting playing more building games, especially minibuilding games where all of the players would be the rulers of their own individual factions or civilizations. The settings for these games could range from the contemporary or historical all the way to the fantastical, like the ones based on Halo or the Lord of the Rings. Through ROBLOX, I met a lot of people and made a few friends, some of whom I still think about to this very day. I even joined clans, one of which was modern military-based. We would have meetings, hang out and fight other clans. Fun times. I miss the sense of belonging that being a part of such a well-made clan gave me. I would even post on the old ROBLOX forums, back when that was still a thing. Looking back, I was very insufferable and got into my fair share of pointless fights, but I was a dumb kid who didn't know any better, so I suppose that's par for the course. ROBLOX today is unrecognizable. Too corporate. Too clean. And I've heard that it's filled to the brim with pedophiles and other awful people. A shame, really. As a tool for inspiring creativity in kids, it was unmatched (Eat your heart out, Minecraft). It gave me an appreciation for game design and development, especially when it came to just simply building a world that someone would want to explore. The version of ROBLOX that I grew up with may be long dead, but the memories are still there, and I'll continue to treasure them.
