/Mega/ Man Thread.

Wondered if there were any Mega Man fans on here. A thread made for discussing anything about the franchize - any game or other media, any character, any story.
A few questions to get the talk going:
>What do you like most about Mega Man as a whole?
I trully adore the fact how creative and original the series can get. Even if it has the same villain most of the time and you play the same character as previous games (I'm not counting X, but his games are pretty amazing as well) you get totally different stories and play-outs of the plot.
>Who's your favourite Robot Master? Why?
I honestly have lots and lots of favourites, from Star Man, Snake Man, Skull Man, Search Man, Top Man to the cuties Cut Man, Ice Man, Clown Man and Plant Man. All the characters are so unique (if you don't count the X DiVE original ones) you can clearly see that a lot of love and passion was put into them.
I'd say Star Man because even if in his introduction (in the Mega Man Gigamix manga) he comes off as a narcissist he cares deeply about his friends and even helps his foes to get to safety.
>What game did you like the most? Have you played any of them?
I have played some of the originals such as Mega Man 2 & 5 but never finished them. Currently playing Mega Man Battle Network 2.
>What's your favourite canon/fact about the games? Do you have headcanons?
>canon/fact
I fancy the fact that Snake Man has a liking for Toad Man, but Toad Man doesn't feel the same. It's a cute little reminder that frogs are in the menu of snakes.
>headcanons
I still haven't made any headcanons of mine yet since I'm still new to Mega Man.
>Any other things you would like to state?
No.
Hope you have fun in this thread!

I meant to type franchiSe, sorry for the mistake. English is not my native language, so please excuse me if there are any mistakes or repeating words.

This thread is somewhat specific for a lainchan thread, but I'll bite.
Megaman Command mission is an action RPG that was released for the Gamecube and Playstation 2. I think of this game as an incredible missed opportunity, as it features fantastic graphics that have aged relatively well, making use of cell shading techniques that wouldn't be popular for another five years minimum. It's clear to me that they worked hard on character designs and environments.
It's just a shame the story was completely braindead.

Mega Man games worth caring about:
Mega Man 1-7
Mega Man X1-X3
Mega Man ZX/ZXA (with caveats)
The series completely lost me during the Playstation transition. The "franchise" is soykaf, it's been a torrent of confused, half-assed garbage ever since that hack Inafune decided to take the series in a pretentious plot-driven direction and the new team that took over the helm couldn't design good levels if their lives depended on it.

Have you tried Rosenkreuzstilette? It's a clone of Mega Man with cute anime girls.

Love the franchise. Was playing the ps1 games before I could walk. The 64 game was pretty cool too. Battle Network games were a lot of fun when I was a kid.
>What do you like most about Mega Man as a whole?
The X games were what got me into it. The Zero games for gameboy were a really cool way they incorporated more RPG elements to all the armor unlocks in the X games. Also though just the aesthetic. Underwear robots are cool.
>Who's your favourite Robot Master? Why?
Not really a robot master but the Zero vs Omega Zero fight was just badass. Not even really that difficult but the setup and theme "cannonball" was really cool.
>What game did you like the most? Have you played any of them?
Mostly all of them. None of the more niche spin off games. Got an emulator and backlogged all the main games for nintendo and then the X franchise. Megaman 2 and MMX5 are the highpoints in the series. MMX4 had some fun memey voice acting and anime cutscenes. Havent touched any of the newer games and from what I hear im not missing much. Maybe ill check out the ZX games eventually.
>What's your favourite canon/fact about the games? Do you have headcanons?
I think the fan theory that all the characters from the original series got murdered by Zero when he first woke up to be pretty cool. Was even a fan game where he is the final boss and is an unkillable supertech death machine.
>Anything else?
The comics are decent. Was a fun series on youtube with decent voice overs for all the pages.
The Protomen are pretty cool. Their first two albums were fantastic concept albums that reimagined the events of the original game. The second album actually had some bangers that you could even play around normal people without getting chased by pitchforks.

I think 30XX is worth of checking. I have 20XX on steam, but the graphics are a bit weird, remind me of flash games a little. 30XX is visually better, but I didn't play it yet.
About the old games from the original series, one of the first I played was megaman 8 in PS1. My favorites are X4 and X6, but it's more nostalgia from my childhood. I had Megaman Legends in PS1 too, but it was too complicated for my age back then.

I just made a theory about Ice Man from Mega Man Powered Up, I'd like to hear your opinions on it.
I think the reason he has a double personality in MMPU is because of the reprogramming Dr. Wily did to him.
Since Ice Man isn't violent and on the soft side, Dr. Wily had to put a second identity in him that forces him to fight. Ice Man is the soldier, while the engraved identity is the commander.
Even if the second identity remains while you play as him on Light's side after being repaired, I think it's because it got attached to the main I.C chip and can't be removed without damaging Ice Man's character.

I have only played a mega man clone called Rosenkreuzstilette (it's pretty good and it even has cute anime girls).

I do love me some Mega Man. 11 was surprisingly good if you guys haven't played it already. Too bad crapcom doesn't seem likely to do much of anything else with the franchise now.
fuarrrking gacha.

I very seriously doubt it after this lazy nostalgia pandering.

How much did Megaman borrow from Casshern?
BloodCat · 2023-04-20 01:52
I consider Mega Man X to be one of the best games ever made and I grew up with Sega mega drive as a kid (huge sonic fan still, both franchises are somewhat connected on the YouTube side of things). Also love the comics.
The most interesting idea for me is the grand narrative of human relationship with AI that has so many highs and lows with the initial boom of prosperity with the robot masters and then reploids helping humanity and later coexisting peacefully and then later humanity being almost extinct as the Maverick (irregular) hunters fight an endless war against Sigma.
What's most striking is the legends series implies that eventually the difference between human and reploid became nonexistent apart from some reploids and a single human on the moon
