Ozark Mountain Daredevil · 2022-09-19 16:59
did you guys remember the first game you ever played? i probably don't, but the oldest memory i have about was playing pac man world in my 3th or 4th birthday

Arcade Galaga machine in a laundromat.

Thexder '95. It was weird, violent, and honestly not a very good game, but I had a lot of fun.

Alex Kidd in Miracle World on my uncle's Sega Master System II. My uncle was constantly high at the time (that was a long time ago, he wasn't even 18 by that point) and he can't remember any of it so as I grew up I didn't even know what game I'd been playing, he never told me and I couldn't read. Eventually when I started using the Internet 10 years later I did some research and it was definitely Alex Kidd. It's a completely dream-like memory and I can't remember any of the details of the game, but I remember it being built into the Master System and the colours being incredibly vivid. This was a few years before he got a SNES and then I eventually got a Game Boy Color. I don't really play video games anymore but if I had to choose a console it would have to be of that third or fourth generation.
Bob Arctor · 2022-09-20 14:39
First was best - Commander Keen on DOS.
SHODAN · 2022-09-20 23:06
It was River Raid. Still a great game.
Motoko Kusanagi · 2022-09-21 01:56
Besides some shareware games on DOS. I played a lot to Rick Dangerous, I think it was the first game I played at this time.

Remember that canceled attempt at a revival game for the DS?
Drifter · 2022-09-21 19:49
My earliest memory, not just earliest memory of a game, was seeing Halo 2's lockout map, specifically in the green hall with the shotgun spawn. Strangely, I've always remembered being able to dual wield the shotgun there, though obviously you cant.

First game I remember. Probably not the best first time game for a kid.
Six · 2022-09-22 11:50
Some educational games like Reader Rabbit. Not sure exactly. My first proper game was Rayman 2 which I'm still a huge fan of til this day. My dad thought the game was bugged because Rayman had no limbs.
Roy Batty · 2022-09-22 22:05
Honestly think it might have been Pong... either that or one of those two player games that are like a table, you sit on either end and put quarters in and I forget the actual game come to think of it. It was in the canteen upstairs from the swimming pool in the neighbourhood.
Haruyoshi · 2022-09-25 20:10
Some Lode Runner game with a level editor on Win 95 or 98.
Hagbard Celine · 2022-09-26 04:40
Barring random edutainment DOS games, I think it was Toy Story on the SNES. Was about 3 when I got it. But I never beat it, I would always play the first level over and over because the second had a time limit and I was too afraid to even try. By the time I stopped fearing failure so much, our SNES got stolen.
If anyone asks me non-anonymously though, I usually just say Pokemon or Final Fantasy Legend or some other game from when I was 6. Less embarrassing than some licensed game (even if it was a decent one by Traveller's Tales).
Nell · 2022-09-26 10:21
Prince of persia, i dont know if it was 4d but i do know it was on dos.
I have a downloaded rom of it but i havent gotten to play it yet, wonder if i get flashbacks.
Shogun · 2022-10-03 19:10
Probably something like Bandicoot or Jak.
I remember playing this when I was a kid and spending hours trying to get past the first shadow monster guy when he goes to drag that chick into the shadow realm. My prerogative was to escape the blast that turned you to stone when he took her, so I spent hours until I finally timed it perfectly and jumped out the window and escaped petrification- but it was still game over anyway.
I later found out years later that to stop the petrifying explosion and proceed you needed to save her from the shadow and the other 95% of the game was an escort quest for the same chick. Even at a young age I knew not to waste time on hoes and tricks. Brought that soykaf back to blockbuster the next day.

Probably Simtower. But possibly the original Simcity.

It depends on what your definition of a video game is. My first video game that fits most people's definition of a video game was Cruisin' USA on an arcade machine that was at a local cafe, but before that I cut my teeth on Tetris using picrelated, and I'm not sure if that counts since it's not using a proper video game screen despite being able to play a bootleg version of Tetris.

I remember playing duck hunt on an old console, can't recall it's name. The control was bazooka-shaped which always stroke me as weird. I think the console also had some sort of dancing game with a mat.

no, i grew up online. some notable mentions
pokemon gold, N (ninja), Portal the Flash version

i remember playing spiderman 2 on the gamecube, plus some other gamecube games. I also vividly remember one of my first mobile games being Galaxy On Fire. That game, and it's sequel, rocks. GOF 3 though was just a cash grab.

Not even joking lol. After this it would be a lot of DS titles, like Kirby: Squeak Squad, The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, Pokemon: Soul Silver, Kingdom Hearts 358 Days, etc.

There was some paint app, I think it was on C64 or perhaps it was its own plug and play game that I used to play with my sister on the TV. Aside from that it was Super Mario World and Donkey Kong Country. I poured so many hours into those as a kid. It felt great when I finally beat King K. Rool. It wasn't until later that I would eventually get a Pico with Tails and the Music Maker and eventually a Genesis with 6-Pak including Sonic 1,

Looked it up and I actually found it! Video Painter from 1991, my first video game experience ever. I haven't seen this thing in ages, makes me happy I finally looked it up and found it.

I think first real games I played were the first Lego Star Wars game, Runescape (F2P), Star Wars BattleFront 1, Shrek 2 (on original Xbox), Pokemon Sapphire & pkmn FireRed, Halo: Wombat Evolved (it came with Xbox and I played it with my friends despite us being like 9 years old) & a couple of years later, pirated Halo: Custom Edition (it's Halo 1 but players can make custom content from starch or they can edit the stock maps (both SP and MP), weapons or other "tags" using Halo Editing Kit (if you are interested, check out the Lumoria campaign, CMT SPv1 & CMT SPv3, Super wacky funtime (which is actually just a soykafpost), Yoyorast Island, Extinction, Bigass and Firefight Descent/Firefight Descent: Quarantine)).
Also, PS2 > Xbox imo.
Much better controllers and build quality. For instance, the original Xbox used a capacitor for it's clock, instead of doing it properly and using a battery that can be replaced (what makes things even worse is the fact that it won't boot after the clock capacitor inevitably dies). I think some Original Xbox units also had issues with their disc drives because mine stopped working properly/reliably like 5 months after the warranty expired, whereas my PS2 slim still works).
Koos van der Merwe · 2023-01-31 10:59
I'm fairly sure my first game was super mario bros. for NES, but the one I actually remember for the first time was some hockey game on the NES. I had absolutely no idea what I was doing because I was like 2 or 3 but I remember thinking it was the coolest thing ever. And being generally obsessed with hockey around that time as a result.
Slightly later than that, we had this 99-in-1 DOS game that you had to punch in a bunch of commands to start up and I had a ton of fun with that.

Haha my grandma had one of these, but in grey and with tetris only. Should be the second "video game" i ever played. The first one was a dos style point and click game, i played at a friend of my fathers computer. I just remember there was a room with water in the background which i think cacsaded from the walls and there were planetlike shapes on stales in it. I opnce found out what it was but i forgot it again. Will contribute when i find out, im on a journey to find out now.
Also remembering playing Löwenzahn(must be the third).

It was this football (american) game on a really old computer, probably running windows 2000 or something, one of the old versions of windows. I honestly can't even remember. You had to load the game into a cartridge too.
I would really like to find the exact game again but don't have enough clues. It probably was thrown out a long time ago.
I just did a quick search because this got me interested, I think it could've been backyard football but it still doesn't seem exactly correct... hm

Playing this is actually my first memory period. My father spent an hour earning a lot of lives and then handed me the controller because he had to go to work. Apparently I plunged off the cliff and lost them all, but then I was hooked on the game.

This is gonna sound trippy, but your fake Sega Genesis seems to be, in fact, an NES-on-a-chip, seeing as it's playing the bootleg NES demake of Sonic The Hedgehog that has Spring Yard as the first level. So, you're playing a bootleg demake of the original console's flagship game on a bootleg console that has the same hardware as the console that the original is trying to rival.

Tomb Raider. My friend was rich and had a playstation. I remember they threw the controller at me, I took 2 steps and then dinosaurs appeared. I came home and jumped around my room pretending to be Lara. fml if I was born 20 years later they'd be chopping off my dick about now

I have early memories of a lot of games, but I don't think I could order them chronologically.
If I had to guess I'd say it would probably be playing starfox 64 at a demo kiosk at PC Richards. It's possible that it was super mario land for the game boy or DOS edutainment or shareware instead.

In the late 1970s I remember buying Pong and playing it on my TV a little bit. In about 1980 I got a job at a telecommunications company which gave me access to some timesharing services. I played some of the bsdgame like StarTrek and Hunt the Wumpus on terminals. Original Adventure was my favorite. There was some free-to-play game called Orb of Zot on a BBS. It was just MS-Basic, so I downloaded it and added simple sound effects to it like frogs croaking and footsteps. Then a friend loaned me his Apple ][+ whilke he was out of town and I wore out a Wizardy floppy by playing it so much. When he took his Apple ][+ back, I went out and bought one so I could keep playing Wizardry. I've been hopelessly addicted to computers ever since.
