VR Chat
Judge Fang · 2022-06-11 02:05
I wanted to get VR Chat because I had seen two of my favourite VTubers playing it. I got a 1500$ headset and everything because it looked so cool when the VTubers played it, but when I actually played it myself, I realized that it was a horrible mistake.
Almost every single world is infested with little children, some sounding as young as 7, screaming or acting like complete animals with no social skills. I wish that there was a way to just mute or even block all users who are using the Occulus Quest, as I want nothing to do with people who are stupid enough to use a Facebook spyware device in general, but also because children seem to be using the Quest as it's the most accessible to them. I feel like a creep playing a game that has so many children in it. I didn't even think of VR Chat as something that would be appealing to children in the first place, as it seems like a social sim would be boring to someone like that, but apparently not.
In my short playtime, I have already witnessed people running around in NSFW avatars, and specifically targeting children with the avatars. I have witnessed someone tell a child to text the phone number "nine and then eleven", and the child obliged. I have heard little kids scream things like "I'm going to rape you" very loudly (wow I wonder where they heard of that word). I used an anime girl avatar while muted and I had a group of children come up and sexually harassed me until they heard my voice.
I have had fun times in Japanese worlds, and PC only worlds, just chilling with (normally-adjusted) people, but the kids are just too much. I really like the idea of the metaverse, and being able to have a fantasy representation of yourself while being able to talk with strangers from around the world, but if it's going to be like this I don't have a good outlook on the future. VR Chat needs to be 18+, the children will never be using the superior community functions of the game like the ability to upload custom avatars and worlds anyway because they are too stupid, and they just cannot exist within a game that is half used by people who want to have sexual roleplays. Children can go play other games that are more closed off, and have fun shiny elements that children would enjoy so they stay the fuarrrk away.
Should I sell my headset, and stop playing the game? What are your experiences with the game in general? I am shocked that the game is like this when it sounded so interesting.

>I wish that there was a way to just mute or even block all users who are using the Occulus Quest,
There is-- go to any PC only world.
You can also mute all people with the "visitor" status under "safety" settings. Most children never make it out of visitor status.
>I have had fun times in Japanese worlds, and PC only worlds, just chilling with (normally-adjusted) people, but the kids are just too much.
Just don't go to quest worlds-- they're a small minority of the worlds and tend to be worse anyway.
>What are your experiences with the game in general?
Generally amazing, minus the kids which I avoid through the methods above. If you make friends and hang out with your friends in VR, you can mute-by-default wider groups of people in the safety settings and only unmute people selectively. Helps a lot.
>Should I sell my headset, and stop playing the game?
No, screw that. Stay and make it better. You can even create and upload your own worlds with custom child safety doors like many of the bars and clubs have. (i.e. a message that says something like "This is an 18+ space. If you want to enter this space, click twice on the 'a' in the first instance of the word space in this sentence." and then a false "accept" button that teleports them to a prison if clicked.
Basically a captcha for kids.

VRC is great. 90% of players online are in friends+ instances (aka private worlds).
Make friends, suggest moving to a friends+ instance, drop a portal for one and then enjoy as the only people there are friends of friends (not kids).
I would say add me. But my VRC identity is an anonymous pseudonym and this is an anonymous message board. I don't really want to connect my identifies like that.
The key thing is just to make friends. The ice breaker game rooms in the bar worlds are great for this. Just barge in and start answering ice breaker questions so people can get to know you.

I have 164 VR games and 99% of my hours played are in VRChat.
So yes there's more. But very little of it has replayability value. Beat saber is pretty good though.
OP, check out /r/questpiracy on reddit-- it's also for PCVR piracy, despite the name.

Thanks for your contributions to this thread, everyone. I think I'll give VRChat another go.

wow this is actually one of the most pathetic things I've read on this board

Today I saw a guy with a Lain avatar, but it was private and he wouldn't let me clone it. I've tried looking for the 3d model online to upload it myself but I can't find it. Does lainchan have the 3d model?

If you hang around you'll meet some chill people. The oldest they get is about 24 though so if you're older than that you will struggle with randoms. There are some groups for older players, just don't know how old as I've never checked them myself. See https://www.reddit.com/r/VRchat/comments/ogd0lk/vr_world_for_a_30_year_old/ and there is some famous older group but I don't remember what they're called. The game is quite chill, I personally liked the autism of it all.

Can you use this link to join the world? It seems there was/is a Lain avatar world (I can't check, don't play the game anymore)

> I have already witnessed people running around in NSFW avatars, and specifically targeting children
This was my experience as well when I logged on during the lockdowns. Having not "played" VRChat in many years, I erred from world to world seeking any activity other than mirror-staring. As I rez into a random instance, I hear "how old are you?" being asked off in the distance. On the way over, I watch as a little kid answers ("uh, eleven") only for the interlocutor to switch to a very well endowed futa avatar. Kid looks away with a "HUH?" then tries to run away, but ends up being chased by cock until he awkwardly takes off the headset and disappears after idling for a little bit. Contextually, I'd guess he had parents watching. Probably for the best. People are fuarrrked in the head.
If you don't mind the Google part too much, I find that the Earth VR program (where you fly around 3D satellite imagery) provides a very unique experience; nothing else brings me the same depressing enticement. It draws me in hypnotically.
On an empty evening, I strapped in to fly around for what felt like minutes. When a controller ran out of battery, I took the headset off. It turned out the minutes were really hours, and it was now past midnight with total darkness having overtaken my apartment. I was truly shocked at this time dilation. My body then started to adapt away from the simulated VR "daytime" it had gotten used to. Near-suddenly, I went from being fresh and spry to being the most tired I've ever been in my life. I couldn't even bring myself to ambulate to my bed, and instead just laid down on the floor and fell asleep. Strange memory.
I've seen someone post about how VR is a portal to Hell. Maybe he was right.

How are children in VRChat?
I speculate that the reason people sexually harass children in VRChat is simply to drive them away. It's a variation of the classic 4chan-gatekeeping tactic of posting gore to scare off the "normal users."
I speculate that, at least at one point in time that it was true that, if you allow too many children to gather, they start getting irritating and hectic, making normal conversation a bit painful.

Not him but, isn't the idea of the metaverse nice? As a form of escapism and as a social platform, the idea of the metaverse seems pretty neat. The only complaints I've ever seen about the metaverse are about who's implementing it and, due to who's doing it, how it's going to be implemented. I think the idea is generally favourable.
I want to say as well that I find it puzzling that someone would come to /inter/ on Lainchan and be against VR Gaming.
Also, OP did clarify that he did not want to talk to anyone using a "facebook spyware device." I doubt he's simultaneously aware of the privacy concerns regarding the device, and oblivious to the privacy concerns regarding the implementation of Zuckerberg's metaverse so I think it's unfair to judge him on those grounds.
>>6062
Who said anything about irony? Goreposters weren't "ironically" posting gore. They were purposefully deterring newcomers to the website.
For Non-Pedos, pedophilia is viscerally disgusting in a way such that, yes, I think a Non-Pedo can act in this sexually aggressive manner with no sincerity behind it.

Zucc is trying to establish his company as "the metaverse" implying there is no metaverse outside his proprietary walled garden. It is almost as bad as saying the internet is only google+facebook+wikipedia+reddit.
>Who said anything about irony? Goreposters weren't "ironically" posting gore... I think a Non-Pedo can act in this sexually aggressive manner with no sincerity behind it.
There is a big difference between gore as a part of life, people are violent, and accidents happen. These are things that produce a shock factor, but are really not a huge deal. In fact, the shock factor of gore alone is enough to deter most normal people. Also gore is universally acceptable as part of life.
Being a pedo is almost universally frowned upon and indicative of some kind of mental defect. Especially when people express sexual urges towards children or child avatars, there is a serious problem with them. Compare it to someone "ironically" posting CP, it does not make it better than someone posting it with sincerity.
I would imagine that VR chat does have a lot of underage players, so it is very possible that people are messing with their own age group using adult avatars (not inherently pedos).
Meta does also monitor and red flag people on it's servers, including recording everyones actions and reporting them to law enforcement for things they deem wrong. One of the concerns is that occulus users have their entire VR lives, and due to outboard cameras on hardware, their IRL lives recorded.

Why not just go on a different hour when little kids would be at school or sleeping? Also why isn't there just some hidden groups or something so you can meet up with people more exclusively?
Cat Mother · 2022-06-18 04:40
I want to know. Do any of you seriously ERP on VRchat? Any funny stories? It doesn't matter if you don't, stories of others will do.

Second life did it a decade earlier better. Metaverse is just a worse version trying to appeal riding on VR hype. I dont believe megacorps like fb can produce anything worthwhile because their target is literally "everyone" which equals bland safe design to avoid offending anyone.

hidden groups do exist in vrchat, you can sit in your own private world instance and solely interact with friends. As for playing different hours - it wont change much because no region split servers. You could at best avoid a nationality going online at their sleeping hours but you cant avoid age groups and from what i saw most are indeed kids although there are older people too. Youtube has a kid doing interviews in vrchat with old guys telling their life stories in vrchat.

All of us read Snow Crash and similar stories written by people still intoxicated by the idea of a net or a wired or a 'verse that would stay a wild west forever. Lawless, wide open spaces never last. The virtual worlds in those stories were born out of that idealism and the reality in 2022 is that only someone like Zuarrrkerberg and his class of tr/billionaires have the resources for it now.

I did second life when it was going to be the next big hype with virtual conference rooms, entire worlds, and corporations trying to establish presence there, and i really didn't get the hype. looking at videos of meta, it looks like the same graphics I could have achieved sitting 15cm away from my CRT display showing second life. It looks like corpos learned their lesson, because the only people putting money into the facebookverse are the NFT crowd and celebrities.

The idea of second life sounds great. People can build together whatever they want and have it connected on a single platform so you can seamlessly stroll through everyone's creations. A virtual theme park created by its players. The main issue it had was controls were genuine off-putting bad and your creations were limited by your wallet. As a young kid i had massive time and learned even 3d modeling with blender but then found out i couldn't do much because everything was paywalled. I think they screwed themselves by banning poor creators from contributing. They could have gotten free content from the community like skyrim but they said no contribution without paying us. Or perhaps wow is a better comparison as another mmo- they allowed writing ui addons and the game design was shaped by the community with devs incorporating fanmade ui addon features written by fans into the base game. And wow became ironically somewhat a competition to second life with its rp addon extensions used for erp.
Lastly i think second live allowed scripting was limiting too much what you could do within your custom space - a problem vrchat also has. The whole virtual world idea dies instantly if you cant build what you want within it.
