I assert that Wipeout is cyb.
>in the far future nation-states and large corporations are the same soykaf
>the masses are overstimulated by media and need increasingly degenerate thrills o get those dopamine hits
>humanity became TOO GOOD AT WAR so that any war would mean too many normal people would die to continue to support the lavish lives of the rich and powerful elite
>but without the occasional war we can't keep the globalized economy going
>someone uses recently invented anti-grav tech to produce RACE cars
>eventually the idea for CORPORATE LED ANTI-GRAV DEATH RACES TO ENTERTAIN THE MASSES AND SOLVE CONFLICTS was born
also
>corporate money grabbing
>pilots literally killing each other
>cheating, sabotage, accusations of race fixing
>many of the tracks literally take place inside of dystopian cyberpunk cities so everyone can watch the carnage
>made originally for PS1 but continually made for other Playstations and even PSP.
>underground international play offs
>the music from the PS1 game set of a whole musical genre revolution in Europe and led to inspiration to so much more techno and EDM throuout the world.
Please play Wipeout.

I really have so much fun with these games. The pro players are like gods though. It just feels like they're just using cheats.

These games are also so dead simple that anyone can get into them. It's gameplay is, at a surface level, just some arcade racer with guns and lasers. The cool stuff is hidden underneath for those who care.

Very decent on the PS5 and yeah online the players destroy you. It's very skill demanding at a high level. Good on VR too.

damn, someone actually remember wipeout.
I like to play in this game with my friend. not a fan of racing games, but this series is awesome - I actualy feel the challenge, but it's still fun.

basically the entire anti-grav racer genre is cyb-punk but the best onse were on the n64. I'd also suggest playing the mech genre of games. Another great genre which might not initially come off as cyberpunk but the shmup genre is pretty science fiction. I'd say r-type delta and ikaruga would be the most meta games to play to get your feet wet, at least. Not sure how much of a fan you are of the older consoles, but the psx's best games practically all took place in Cambridge, Massachusetts (metaphorically). I suggest checking out the band Chemlab and playing Fear Effect. And last but not least, another meta genre to play would be the fighting genre. immerse yourself like you are actually living in a cyberpunk dystopia rather than idolizing the trope, bro. It'd be more soykaf that way.

Although the limited graphics available at the time have trouble conveying it, the second GTA game is set in a cyberpunk sci fi dystopia.

Ikaruga is such a horrible game to recommend to newcomers to the genre, it's totally baffling to me to this day why anyone thinks that's a sound suggestion. Ikaruga is more of a puzzle game than a shooter, and and an extremely rote memorizer at that which punishes the player severely when they break a chain, and I wouldn't classify it as an easy clear either. You'll be giving newcomers a completely wrong impression of the genre if they start with that game.
Anyway speaking of cyberpunk racing games, I've always loved the ambiguity in Mega Race over whether you're a contestant from a comfortable high-rise utopia simulating road rage against street thugs or if there's a more sinister undertone over what you're doing.
