Modding Thread

When you complete a game and all its content, often times the fun doesn't have to end if you don't want it to. Even when games like Elite or Rogue were new people tweaked and modified them to create different experiences. In this thread you can talk about all things modding (including romhacks too if you want). Here's some questions to begin with: What mods are you enjoying at the moment? Is there a mod you keep coming back to? Has your opinion of a game changed based on a mod? Are you working on any modding projects yourself? Let's start with some great mods & hacks: Tamriel Rebuilt: https://www.tamriel-rebuilt.org (Morrowind) Arcane Dimensions: https://www.moddb.com/mods/arcane-dimensions (Quake) Super Metroid and A Link to the Past Randomizer: https://samus.link (Super Metroid, A Link to the Past) Net64: https://net64-mod.github.io (Super Mario 64)

Ashes Afterglow is the Doom II TC to play, right now: https://forum.zdoom.org/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=69612 I recommend you start with the first episode (Ashes 2063) if you haven't played it already. I just started the second episode (Survival mode makes it more challenging, recommended) and the level of detail, the soundtrack and the general feel of the weapons and enemy encounters is off the chart.

I started modding tiberian sun in like 2000 or so, its simple .ini based crap and pixels/voxels. It went on to the other games, but i never really made a mod. Most were crappy, but there are some really fantastic ones out now. Since tiberian sun is freeware now people release em standalone. Also did quake a lot later, but its a different league, but now i have a proper fps engine so i dont need quake hax. Also did some small q3 modding stuff, but its terrible to be honest. Im also modding/deving on the spring engine, its mostly lua based, but comes close to old school rts. Once i tried some unreal engine 3 modding, but it was too tedious to get tools working.

>>5566 I always loved to watch youtube videos of people installing and playing mods, but I nevr installed one myself. I am a bit paranoid and I'm too afraid to get a virus or something.

I haven't been playing anything recently but I spent years playing just multiplayer source mods. Orange box was the best purchase ever I got dozens of games worth of contents for like 5 pounds. Zombie Master was a favourite though. Still I think Movie Battles 2 for Star Wars Jedi Academy is probably the greatest thing I've ever seen when it comes to video game mods. I used to play it in like 2008 and it's still going. It's basically Star Wars Counter Strike on crack with almost everything you could ever want from a Star Wars game. Plus it has all the moves in the original game with differnt values (considered by many the best sabre combat and force powers in any star wars game) plus additional ones. Add onto that tones of Classes and customisation for them all and you have endless potential for absolutely crazy things to happen. MB2 Frag videos are the best I've ever seen. Still that amount of content makes it quite hard to get good at. I have always been pretty crap at it and I always have to remember things every time I pick it up again. Still there are in-game tutorials and plenty of youtube videos to git gud. It's fuarrrking brilliant. https://youtu.be/LMeUOcV6lmg https://youtu.be/DXFkN4Ns31I https://youtu.be/E-JpXCFf1_M

>>6118 I was playing MB2 a lot around 15 years or so ago. In my opinion it's the greatest competitive multiplayer game ever created. The asymmetric teams. The absurd complexity. The rock paper scissors design of counters and counter counters. The sheer lethality of everything. It's unbelievable. Also, the community is unlike any other. The combination of Star Wars and the ultra hardcore ultra complex gameplay just attracts a certain kind of people. Very friendly but also very zany, wholesome insanity is how I'd describe it.

I'm planning on replaying Morrowind using OpenMW on GNU/Linux (as soon as I feel a bit better). I plan on using mods from this list -> https://modding-openmw.com/lists/expanded-vanilla/ I plan on also adding Tel Morgana mod. Any other mods I should add?
