Disco Elysium.

Anyone else here give this a play at all?
It's basically a Point and Click detective game with skill checks and some bare-bones RPG elements.
Premise is that your basically a stereotypical drunk down on his luck detective living in a country that had a commie revolution that was beaten down followed by a brief period of roaring 20sesque excess followed by a mega-great depression that separated society into the super fuarrrking rich and the super fuarrrking poor.
So your basically a detective in a fictionalised Babylon berlin trying to solve a murder

I loved this game. Sadly, since it's a detective genre, as soon as you know who is the killed the interest for replaying it goes to 0(the same for detective books, I can't re-read them after I know who is the criminal). Also, I really really hated who was the killer. It came out of nowhere and it kinda made that ending part soykaf, but what comes next made me really want a sequel.

All I can say is that you might want to read Umineko. It's the only thing where knowing the facts didn't stop me from wanting to read again. Don't google though because spoilers evaporate its value.

The reveal is garbage because as you stated it comes absolutely out of nowhere and because....
It basically makes all the actual detective work that both the MC and you in your own head have been doing completely meaningless which is made worse considering that doing detective soykaf is basically the medium that allows him to experience some character development and start getting his memories back
Honestly i was expecting the ending to either be...
A. They literally all killed him lynch mob style and everything you've been fed by everyone was just a gigantic muddying of the waters hoping to confuse you enough you fuarrrked off and the ending would come down to you either hiding the truth to protect all these colourful characters you've just met or revealing the truth even if it meant them getting fuarrrked up by the PMC freikorps. Or B. It was a falseflag by the PMC freikorps to give them an excuse to kill all the drug-dealing dock workers. But the ending being that it literally was just some rando who was sexually frustrated does put a damper on the mystery of it

It's a good game. Many compare it with Planescape: Torment

Is that supposed to be flattering? So it's an incredibly shallow RPG that should have simply been a visual novel?

Install the latest wine-staging and Lutris, reinstall Disco Elysium, run it through Lutris.

I thought it was pretty comfy, the soundtrack + voice acting was nice and I really liked the mystery surrounding the Pale. I also liked how you got made fun of regardless of which political path you chose, most developers wouldn't be able to resist making their ideology the "correct" choice.
Like >>4882 said though, I tried replaying it on hard mode and I just couldn't be motivated to go through the same dialogue trees again even with a different character sheet.
Anamika · 2021-09-30 02:58
Extremely comfy game, really liked the ending because I thought it adapted to your choices. Later a friend told me everyone got the same ending. Still pretty epic since I got the SHOOTOUT ENDING where you kill the PMC with the stupid voice by shooting him in his fuarrrking face. Too bad I couldn't dodge his bullet and had to spend the rest of the game walking or else my leg'd rip itself in two.

I started a couple times, but the incredibly small text bothers me so. Even the largest option is as small as an ant's dick.

imo the game really isn't about the murder mystery at hand, it's about mister superstar cop getting the mojo back after his breakup. the investigation is just the vehicle used for du bois' recovery

I feel like that's definitely part of it, depending on how you play it. It definitely has something to say about wider society and the nature of justice, hence the nature of the ending being the culmination of these factors

The game's ending does change a bit. Different characters die depending on your choices at the Tribunal, though if you survive it doesn't matter much. The story is more about the journey than thr destination with lots of different ways to role-play.
I save scrummed to see as many dialogue choices as I could in my first playthrough because losing a roll was hillaruous, but then I didn't want to play it again.

Honestly, that person being the killer and being revealed at the end like that is exactly what I expected from the game. Disco Elysium has a lot of mystical realism themes and I felt it was only obvious that the game would do the very realistic ending of "the killer is literally just some dude you just met" and then contrast it with something like meeting the phasmid. The important part is everything else aside from the case, cause the case itself isn't important to Harry's character development. It's him coming to terms that his life is in shambles and it's all his fault. I think trying to understand exactly what the phasmid says to Harry at the end is like, key to the whole point of the story of Disco Elysium. I don't think it should've ended any other way.
