Steam reviews

Zero Cool · 2021-06-12 22:52
Does anybody here write game reviews on Steam? If so, you can share your profile in this thread, so we can compare our opinions on specific videogames. You can also share your Steam profile if you're just looking for friends to play games with. At least you will have yet another way to chill together with fellow lainons. Here's mine: https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561199126212282/recommended/ >inb4 don't use Steam, Gaben is data-mining you etc. Meh, I don't even care at this point. Everything is lost and privacy doesn't exist anymore. Accept it.
Yuki Nagato · 2021-06-12 23:06
>>4851 I don't use Steam because those fuarrrks at valve shouldn't get to decide what games are available or not based on their standards of morality. Only buy your games directly from the people who make them.
BloodCat · 2021-06-12 23:15
>>4852 > Only buy your games directly from the people who make them Uhh, you almost never do. There is (almost) always some kind of publisher. Not many games are self-published.
Bob Arctor · 2021-06-12 23:20
https://steamcommunity.com/id/snibeti/ I don't know, if I can bring myself to play with new people but we can be friends if you want. I love to connect!
Six · 2021-06-12 23:42
>>4853 Itch.io takes I think 10% and let's you publish just about anything so long as it isn't illegal or harassing, etc. They were recently in the news because Apple argued in court that smut on itch.io was evidence of why Apple should be allowed to have a monopoly on software distribution on Apple devices.
Eldon Tyrell · 2021-06-13 00:02
>>4855 dlsite has a better track-record too as far as I know. The people running Steam are grade A cunts.

I buy all my games on rutracker.org You should too.

>>4852 video game developers can be hobbyists or unknown and have no concern for the user's privacy or security. Only purchase games from trusted providers such as Steam that are committed to protecting your information from hackers.

I focus on indie games. Gonna review LOST RUINS soon. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g4FDPaEi-yw

>>4851 i'm not sure if it was always like this, but I always see that most steam reviews try to be funny more than actually talk about the game. it kind of makes it a pain in the asshole to try and determine a game's pros/cons
Hououin Kyouma · 2021-11-27 09:52
I mainly READ other people's Steam reviews since I don't have many games...

Steam review on SOULDIERS makes me laugh

i spam my cock pics to steam support since they have in game/vac derezzed me despite the fact that i have not cheated
Miho Iwakura · 2022-08-06 17:13
I don't really write reviews of games anymore but one of my greatest pleasures is collecting reviews of games by people that have had their lives ruined by them. MOBAs, not even once.
J.C. Denton · 2022-08-06 18:37
>>4851 >>6183 Yeah I used to play Dota 2. Think I racked up 3-4k hrs, not sure. It's annoying that few other activities are as stimulating and (at times) exciting. The prevailing emotion for competitive games is however frustration/anger. These emotions alone are addictive, that's before you consider you're cranking a slot-machine lever with a ~45m delay. Also: avoid games with considerable grind mechanics. I must have 1.5k hrs in Elite: Dangerous now, what a fuarrrking waste.

>>4852 >>6175 Most new games coming out don't do much different and their anti cheat bullshit put a kernel level driver on your soykaf so why does it matter? >>4896 How does this impact playing games with the person?
Lord Nikon · 2022-10-10 10:14
>>4851 I don't have many games on Steam, I generally get my games elsewhere so I can play them without having to log into a middleman. Plus and the prevailing Reddit culture of treating hours played as some measurement of authority makes opinions not worth discussing.

I tried to a few years ago, and that habit renewed itself in my personal blog. I only write a few articles a year, but when I do I try to work a lot on my reviews.
Crash Override · 2023-03-22 11:48
>>4855 I like Itch.io and GOG, but they seldom have deep discounts like Steam where I can wait for them to fall to half off. There is no way I could afford to buy most of their Indie games at full price. Of course, I use Steam because I can usually afford to. You can also buy keys or steam accounts wkth games online from countriee where Steam sells their games for less, or just pirate. I haven't bothered with Epic because I'm paranoid. I also check Humble Bundle a lot, but so far it has never been worth it for me to donate $15 to get 8 games when there is usually only one that I want and it's $11 on Steam.
Anamika · 2023-06-02 22:00
Steam reviews can be fun to read to see how stupid some people are...
Lainon · 2023-07-23 14:35
>>4857 Well if you can't escape being fuarrrked in the ass and the only thing you can do is just make it less painful, you should totally make it less painful. Another analogy is having to get your hand cut and you can only choose between getting it cut with a rusty and dull blade or with a well sharpened blade. You should definitely go for the later.

>>4851 I often have the problem, that I'll write a review in a txt file, keep improving it but never finding it of enough quality to actually post it. I still have a review for Driver4VR that I want to post to generally inform people about it on it's capabilities but I keep struggling with "is it too detailed" and how the user might misunderstand me.

The only game I ever reviewed on steam was Assassin's Creed Unity. Basically the movement and combat is still broken so don't play it or you'll probably have a stroke and die or something.

>>7255 I hate NPCs. There should be a parallel internet only accessible to divine sparks, with NPC cattle left to the mud pit where they belong. Is suspect such a thing already exists, I just haven't found the entrance. A Dreamweb, an astral superstructure of this world.
Junichi Fujiwara · 2023-10-10 05:25
>>7256 But Dreamweb was a terrible game.
xPinkyDash · 2024-02-14 12:00
>>6792 I find it very frustrating that you even consider pointless soykaf like massive discounts on Steam versus GOG/itch/humble/whatever. Literally just pirate everything. Unless you're REALLY digging deep for some stuff or are just unlucky, you'll only have to chalk up money once in a blue moon.
Special Agent Bob · 2024-02-14 12:49
>>7533 If everyone had that attitude of pirating indie games then the only things that would remain profitable would be online-only games, smartphone adware and microtransactions.
Molly Millions · 2024-02-14 14:42
>>7533 I'll support another indie dev today just to frustrate you more. And get a great time out of it.
Void · 2024-02-14 17:06
Everything should be pirated. This horrible industry must collapse.
Neo · 2024-02-14 17:20
>>7537 I'd rather make more developers aware of alternatives like GOG. Also hope for Linux support from CDPR's side. If you ignore the mainstream soykaf and whatever awful FOTM makes it big there's a decent group of devs making worthwhile games on their own. Support the ones that don't sell out to scummy publishers or rely on the usual psychological trickery to milk worthless paypigs for what little they're worth.
xPinkyDash · 2024-02-16 09:37
>>7538 I'm the lainon who posted >>7533 please give me a few examples of some games so good and whose teams are so down to earth that you'd pay them. Not a single game that I've tried in the past 9 years has felt worthwhile enough to pay for. Only game that ever scratched such a good itch to make me chalk up money and not regret it was Minecraft way back in 2015, and even now I wish I'd just pirated it, too. I dont get it. I just don't fuarrrking get it. Every developer out there seems to either not make a good game, or does so but is not reasonable to support as a person in the first place.
Ender · 2024-02-18 03:34
>>7548 BallisticNG is an anti-gravity racing game developed by Neognosis, a two-man independent development team. It features in-depth modding support, with many types of user generated content available to make with the game's expansive toolset. The game, soundtrack and several expansion DLCs are available through Steam. Once downloaded through Steam, the game is DRM free and does not rely on Steam to function.
Joey · 2024-02-18 04:52
>>7548 >but is not reasonable to support as a person in the first place This comes off as really petty to be honest. Do you look into the personality and life history of every person involved in a product you purchase or do you just confine this kind of vetting to video games? If it's the former then you must spend a large fraction of your life doing it. If it's the latter, I think you must recognize that you're subjecting video games to an unfair double standard. What is the scope of your personal judgement upon someone over whether or not to buy a product they helped produce? If you can't confine it to exclusively their behavior in the production of the product, then I think you must admit that your character evaluations are rather arbitrary.
Just another Random Lainon · 2024-02-18 05:39
>>7537 The pressure should increase until playing video games ceases and it becomes so absurd and painful that theya ll never forget. I remember telling stupid fuarrrks to stop preordering 15 years ago, how have these numbnuts not woken up yet? They deserve pain.
Erik Johansson · 2024-02-18 06:22
>>7548 So many people think like this, it is why creating advertisement-funded algorithm baiting slop is the most pragmatic means of supporting yourself as a content creator. If someone is creating something you like, you should pay him for it. Even from a rational self-interested point of view you will both help fund him to continue his work, and also attract other developers to create content in the same niche by showcasing that it is popular and profitable. There are examples in every industry where creating for the right people, not the most people, is much more sustainable financially. Niche autistic fandoms such as bronies and simulator games are a good examples of this. It's also good to keep that in mind if you're interested in actually creating and selling things instead of being an eternal employee.
Lord Nikon · 2024-02-18 18:07
>>7556 I personally agree with this. If you're tight on money like that lainon seems to be then things might be different, but if you happen to have enough disposable income for one or two $20 purchases a month then you should really consider supporting the artists behind the content you enjoy, doubly so if it's the kind of product that's made in good faith and without compromising itself to algorithmical trickery. Not giving money to large corporations is always the right call but individual artists deserve all they can get.
xPinkyDash · 2024-02-28 14:21
>>7554 >>7556 After seriously thinking about what you've said, I agree. I need to separate the art from the artist and pay when I can, especially if it's a smaller team. >>7553 I'll take a look, thanks for the recommendation.
Junichi Fujiwara · 2024-04-16 14:03
I don't write Steam reviews and I don't fuarrrking read them either because most reviews never talk about the game in a serious manner. They're all memes, soykafposts, and are irrelevant to the game. What also pisses me off is how Steam lets people have the ability to put their own game tags and they all resort to adding random soykaf that's irrelevant to the game like "Female Protagonist", "LGBTQ", or something NSFW related. fuarrrk Steam and fuarrrk Steam users.
Sabo Engle · 2024-10-30 02:17
Should fan-mods ever affect the review of a game? *koff* Skyrim *koff*
Nemissa · 2024-10-30 17:56
>>7554 This doesnt seem like that great an argument since there is a lack of nuance. It really depends on what someone spends the money you gave them on. Surely you dont want to give money to a person or company that spends it on things against your interests that are more meaningful than vidya otherwise why not just give the money directly but also depends if their money even makes any difference at all or not on the standing of that thing, and it doesn't apply if they arent even using money that way. So you'd only be partially correct.
