Anyone playing minecraft?
I can usually devote hours to my single player worlds, or playing with some friends, but I miss the good 'ol days of spending hours in junky servers and meeting cool communities.
I've lurked on some online servers but soykaf seems to be filled with either kids, hardcore players or scammers. Guess I haven't found the niches yet.
Do you guys play in any servers? Could there be a Lain server?
Cutter · 2021-03-16 21:56
Didn't open MC in like 2 years now. Still have that SkyFactory 4 world, but forgot a lot about how things work there.

I used to enjoy a lot the old days near the end of beta, even had a sever with many friends. Now I feel it became a completely different game. It is a similar feeling I have about the paid version of Team Fortress 2 before hats.
The best memories about the game is when around 6 friends were all playing together in the same server, but mostly at different times. Sometimes I would log in and just wonder around new buildings made by others, and would help build some walls and light up the surface to help protecting. It slowly became a small village, very comfy.
Miho Iwakura · 2021-03-20 04:35
There used to be a German chan with a very cosy server before the hardcore right wingers started to congregate around it. The minecraft server still stayed pretty cosy until the end though.
Good times I miss it. Finding a cosy server is difficult these days.
Crazy Jake · 2021-03-20 17:00
i bought it back in the day and played it for a few hours every time a new update came out, so I actually never did a full survival run. Well, actually I kind of did. When the pandemic first hit, me and a few friends of mine set up a server. we split into group of 2 and went in separate teamspeak rooms. every group had their base and their everything, except for diamonds which where shared. I knew little about the game mechanics and I still do, but they knew their way around so I just followed 'em. In a week we had already killed both bosses, had fully automated farms and were setting up a slime farm. But at one point everyone got tired and stopped playing.
So yeah, minecraft is a good game, but only if you're new to it. If as soon as you spawn you try to do everything as efficiently as you can you're missing the point, and will get tired in no time.
I followed this philosophy and started a new hardcore world a week ago. My base is in a village on top on a huge canyon, so I had to build a lot of bridges all around the town. I know nothing about the new mechanics, but if I remember correctly every villager has his 'work block' or something like that. It's a shame the game doesn't tell you a thing, so you always have to have a browser tab open on the wiki

Yeah, I got my Minecraft server about a year ago, but never actually grew the community. I also miss that feeling and want to experience it again, so I set it up with quite a few mods.
(such as Aether Ascension, Minestrapp, YUNG's caves, Better Nether, Twilight Forest, mo biomes, and more) and upped the difficulty quite a bit beyond what normal minecraft would allow. Does this sound interesting?
if you think you'd like it, we are active on matrix at: #evertrue:matrix.org (main room)
#evertrue-players:matrix.org (space) +unofficial/evertrue:nitro.chat (community)
Everything is in the /topic.

I am more interesting in a minimalist approach, maybe going with Minecraft beta 1.7.3. I enjoyed more the game when things were limited.

I purchased minecraft almost exactly 10 years ago, when 1.7.2/3 came out. Tried out the old version and one has to say that there are quality-of-live features that make the game annoying when you've got used to them. The same was simpler, but more limited too.

Minecraft is like kicking dead whales down the beach. It's owned by microsoft so you can't trust them and all the updates since 1.8 or 1.9 have been soykaf. I once looked at over 30 servers. Every one of their websites was cockflared and most of them blocked vpns and proxies.
Apoc · 2021-08-21 12:44
>>4913
At least they still develop Java version which is moddable. At one time it looked like they're going to dump it and work on their own version which is soykaf just like everything new from Microsoft post Windows 7.
Neuromancer · 2021-08-21 21:37
So, is there a Lain server? I'd love to play any vanilla version with you guys. Even if it's anarchy.

I might setup a server, if lains are interested. I could add some mods like Yungs Caves, Yungs Dungeons, and those TeamAbnormals biome mods so as to make it comfier for building and exploration. We could even ban automation to prevent effieciency from ruining the game like >>4525, said, but maybe that's a bad idea.
wdboy · 2021-08-22 06:54
man a lainchan survival server would be awesome as hell! small comfy gaming with you guys would be dope
Ein · 2021-08-25 06:28
I remember when one guy wrote a minecraft client clone in C# during his 1st year at university and released it under Public Domain license - the client was able to connect to Minecraft servers what pissed off Notch himself. Forum of that project get invaded by an army of autist primaryschoolers Notch worshipers writing some nonsenses about that project. It was top kek story because the guy who created that project had literal no cenzorship policy so forum ended spammed to the nearest galaxy and back. I had lolz of astronomical level at that point. Project later went own path implementing own stuff that was not present in Minecraft and also posibility to connect to Minecraft servers was removed.

Let's play some Minecraft on our /int/ server:
hub.dev-urandom.eu:25565 (version: 1.17.1)
Wiki with more information: http://dev-urandom.eu/
Overview map: dev-urandom.eu:8123
IRC: irc.dev-urandom.eu - channels: #chat (ingame chat), #int
Pirate-friendly client: https://tlauncher.org/en/
Basic commands:
/spawn - Teleports you to the spawn.
/home - Teleports you to your home (set with /sethome or by sleeping in a bed like a user).
/lb tb - Provides a melonblock that can show block changes.
Don't grief and don't be an asshole (obviously). Basically, you can build anywhere, although there are some limitations. There is enough space for everyone! You can make your clan and engage in Nation Autism. Don't get discouraged by the autism of the server, things will get easier for you later. Also, mods, admins and other players may help you.
tl;dr:
Join us now and share your autism, you'll be free, players, you'll be free!
Note: If you forgot your password, join in IRC and we'll reset, assuming we can confirm the identity of the user.

From what I can see, most anons miss the old days of cosy servers and building the community. If more people are on board I'd love for us to have a comfy survival server, maybe vanilla (at first) to make it more approachable (>>5080)
Many setups cant run heavy/many mods.
And if there would be new mods to add we can talk about it after we start setting up the world (imo)

I enjoyed 1.5 RedStone update best, struck a perfect balance and had the right base components. After that everything felt like bloated elements taken from the most popular mods.

Fred Nurk · 2022-03-16 13:17
Yeah holy soykaf, none ofthese 'alt clients' actually work despite every programmer making a 'minecraft' clone in C as part of practice in the last decade. Seems like it's really not that easy to make minecraft, huh?

It's not surprising in the slightest. Even Mojang's official C++ rewrite that's' been worked on for years isn't at complete feature parity to the original.
Delilah · 2022-03-19 03:33
>>5837
every modder thinks that because they know a couple languages and can use fabric/forge they can suddenly create minecraft 2. If a group settled on a version like 1.8.9 and just tried to make a client purely for that, it might get somewhere if it garnered enough attention. For now though, nothing really usable exists. But seeing as minecraft is java and mojang distributes their official mappings, you can just decomp it with something like fernflower if you want to see the source.

I think the caves and cliffs update has good world gen again, but it will never feel the same as old old world gen with the bright green grass. Once you get used to the hunger system its more annoying to go back versions and not be able to run.

1.5 was great, but i have fond memories of 1.4. Halloween 2012, playing FIFA with my bros, then seeing a new minecraft update and hopping on
>they never actually added the feature where torches would have limited fuel
wouldn't be a fun game mechanic if forced, but it would have been nice as something you could turn on and off in the settings
but yeah, after 1.5 with things like horses, clay, and whatnot it felt like a different game, especially after 1.9 when things just became too different.

A lainchan classic minecraft server would probably not get a lot of traffic due to the general preference for privacy and security, but if not for that I'd think it'd be a lot of fun.

I made a slight return to the game during the corona chan season, but to the elder version, 1.12 i think, with several mods that i used to play when i was a child( smart moving, primitive mobs, NotEnough Itens), and the game still rockin, i always prefer to play solo or with my brother, but i miss the oldschool PVP servers too
H.R. Giger · 2022-08-27 10:40
now when microsoft account is the only login method someone could reverse-engineer mojang account login so it could still be used as authentication method for multiplayer servers that are owned by more privacy-orientated users, since the "offline" authentication method is kinda limited

yeah yeah things aren't great, but they're still a hundred times better than they ever have been in the past, when forge was the only modloader that took months to update and forced you to use their dogshit ABI, and the majority of mods actually were closed source and had telemetry built in. Things are better now. (except for vanilla players, lol)

I use to play Minecraft a lot back when I was in school.
Like many people, my friends and I had a server (modded ofc) and would spend hours having fun, laughing and cracking jokes.
Those days are long gone now. Every time I try to play Minecraft now, I do some bull soykaf for about 20 minutes and close the game out of boredom.
