What are some good video games to keep my mind and attention away from the political polarization hellscape of social media from now until after Nov. 4? Ideally anything that is very engrossing and complex mechanically and doesn't have any, or minimal, attempts at delivering an influential message about the modern American political climate.

I have been sinking myself into Total War: Warhammer. Do with that as you wish.

stop spamming new threads it's almost like you have some ulterior motive to kill off quality threads

I think MMOs are the best way to escape from reality. I've been playing a lot of FFXIV but if fantasy ain't your thing, I recommend PSO2 a lot. Also if you don't wanna play MMOs I recommend getting into NieR. It's a banger of a series, the lore is vast, and it's a real fuarrrking trip.
Bobby Newmark · 2020-09-05 19:30
Play something like zelda or xenoblade chronicles 2, long yet easy games with null story depth
Judge Fang · 2020-09-07 19:33
Visual novels if you're a weeb. Otherwise, the Yakuza series.

>>3449 Old CRPGs are perfect escapism. Shadowrun games, Planescape: Torment, Baldur's Gate I & II, Neverwinter Nights, Fallout I & II, Mass Effect. Old school DOS stuff like the Ultima series, Lands of Lore, Eye of the Beholder, Stonekeep, Albion Morrowind, Gothic and all those free roam games Clive Barker's Undying, American McGee's Alice All the old school platformers like Spyro on emulators or ports Fighting games like Street Fighter or Skullgirls There are also rabbit holes like Dwarf Fortress and roguelikes Does it really matter what you play? Nothing will pull you out of the event horizon

Warzone 2100 https://wz2100.net/ Doom, the Roguelike https://drl.chaosforge.org/ Xonotic https://xonotic.org/ Zombie Smashers X3: Ninjastarmageddon! https://www.myabandonware.com/game/zombie-smashers-x3-ninjastarmageddon-e1w Voxelstein 3D http://voxelstein3d.sourceforge.net/ Openspades https://openspades.yvt.jp/ That's all the free stuff. I could make some more suggestions for things you actually have to pay money for.

I stopped reading the news and I have been playing my Wii and PSP lately. Guitar Hero (if you like rhythm games) is very addictive and I have been playing the GTA series (currently on Vice City Stories) to have something to work on. As of what game to play. It's up to you what you like.
Cypher · 2020-09-09 18:14
>>3459 Red Eclipse is also a very good free and open source game despite how old it is.
Just another Random Lainon · 2020-09-09 18:50
>>3457 Mass Effect 1 is good but it is by no means a CRPG.
Chan Siu Ming · 2020-09-10 09:44
>>3457 Planescape: torment, Shadowrun, Fallout, Morrowind, Gothic, all have themes which are represented in U.S. politics, so OP can't play them. Don't worry OP. I got your back. What politics? *wink*
Masami Eiri · 2020-09-10 09:45
>>3461 OP also can't play GTA because it contains politics. Also Guitar Hero is out, because many famous classic songs on the guitar hero playlist have political themes, or are songs of protest against the government.
Dujour · 2020-09-10 09:47
>>3459 No voxelstein either. Killing nazis is political
Hagbard Celine · 2020-09-10 17:53
>>3465 That makes sense. Try Bayonetta or something. Or VN games if you like anime.
Splicer · 2020-09-11 14:27
>>3466 fuarrrk you.
Chan Siu Ming · 2020-09-12 19:21
>>3469 fuarrrk OP for asking dumb questions REPUBLICAN DEMOCRAT STIMULUS WAR ARE YOU TRIGGERED OP?
Neo · 2020-09-12 22:18
Cities: Skylines spend all your time optimizing traffic the only reason I stopped was because my city got too big for my computer to run
Wilson · 2020-09-12 22:43
>>3471 So your game about being a city planner, a government employee, is completely apolitical? Are you sure?
Judge Fang · 2020-09-12 22:46
>>3471 I could never get into Cities: Skylines which is a shame as I absolutely loved SC4 and put huge amount of time into it. Theres just some spark missing from it that prevents it from catching my interest. I've heard other people say that they don't like it because it doesn't have any actual difficulty beyond traffic management which might be it because part of the SC4 fun was making the best looking city with what you could. But I wonder if its the aesthetic too, Cities Skylines has these very modernist feeling buildings whereas SC4 has a much better variety and real feeling buildings. Kind of a shame Maxis shat the bed so hard with SC(2012) as I've been stucking returning to SC4 for over a decade now.
Junichi Fujiwara · 2020-09-12 23:40
>>3473 you can download texture packs and stuff like that to change the look of the game a lot. I agree that SC4 still feels better in a lot of ways, but I'm just a huge nerd for traffic/transit management and especially with a few mods, Cities: Skylines really delivers that.
Trinity · 2020-09-13 09:36
>>3470 fuarrrk you.
Molly Millions · 2020-09-13 09:41
The Dark Mod is a tribute to the old Thief games, made in the Doom 3 engine. https://www.thedarkmod.com/main/ Unless the entire concept is too CLASS WAR! for you. Zombie Smashers X3 might trigger you too, with its whole - laissez-faire ancap Yankee-trader approach to interstellar commerce, and possible conflict between cyborgs and pirates.
Wilson · 2020-09-15 17:46
>>3479 Thief is way too political for OP Unless you mean Th4ef which is definitely basic and hollow enough for OP to tolerate.
Jet Black · 2020-09-15 19:52
>>3474 Thanks for the idea but I think so long as the underlying mechanics miss that soul I will struggle to enjoy Skylines. Its a shame as I have thousands of hours in SC4, was active in the simcity forums and modded it a ridiculous extent. Perhaps I shall give it another shot but heavily modded in the future.

If you like card games, then Magic the Gathering has a pretty nice online game, if you buy a physical deck, you also get a code to get the same deck in the online version. Also rougelikes can be hellofa timesink.
Sipho Nkosi · 2020-09-16 19:44
>>3486 No OP cant play mgs 2. The modern web is basically Patriots.

League of Legends

>>3449 I recommend Satisfactory or your factory sim of choice. Optimizing production lines and watching containers fill up usually takes my mind off of whatever's bothering me for a while. >>3472 OP didn't request a completely apolitical game. Here, since you had trouble reading the first time: >doesn't have any, or minimal, attempts at delivering an influential message about the modern American political climate. You're one of those "everything is politics" pedants, aren't you?
Anamika · 2020-09-17 05:33
>>3490 I loved factorio but I suck at it so bad :( also it would be much better if I didn't have to actually move an avatar to build
