Post good obscure games

Has an early-mid 2000s thrift shop charm to it.

>>2523 absolutely not obscure the game was ubiquitous in its time

Not /that/ obscure given that you can buy it on Steam/GOG, but The Silver Case is a pretty niche game by Suda51. Very cyberpunk. It has annoying controls, is hard to follow, and is overall difficult to get into, but I found it rewarding.

I found a copy of Chex Quest at Goodwill today. Excited to play a little.

>>2547 The silver case games are fuarrrkin nuts and damn near impossible to understand. But I love it. I also love how the ending is literally the lochness monster joke from southpark.

>>2614 By the same developers, Moon. Loved this game, some of the best graphics on the system.

Slay was a shareware title in the 90s that still holds up. It's turnbased strategy with an economic part. Get taxes for land you own to hire stronger units, but if you lose land your expensive units will die the next turn. It has way over a hundred levels. The developer puts it for free on his website, but there is also a mobile version now. www.windowsgames.co.uk/download/SlaySetup.exe

Any obscure PS1 recommendations? Preferably something short. I've been playing this arcade space shooter Omega Boost, kinda like Star Fox except you control a mech and can move more or less freely. A lot of fun, i never heard anyone talk about it .

>>2774 "Garden of war" seems to be a clone of it, from your description. Spent many hours on it, very nice game. https://www.kongregate.com/games/Warstrider/garden-of-war-2

>>2774 Kind of reminds me of unciv. Not very obscure, but the developer is a great guy and the project is entirely open source. Available on all platforms, and supports online. The community is small and comfy too.
kiwami · 2020-02-20 11:57
May I introduce the entire library of Japanese Cellphones and Java i-appli mode? To my knowledge, there is no emulators and java files for most of these. Pic is Shin Megami Tensei

Also SNES (Super FC) Satellaview games are hard to come by but there are archives. https://satellaview.org/ or do a quick query on archive.org

>>2872 I always thought that was just for news, the sat. >>2523 The Lord of The Rings? Something like Baten Kaitos would be more appropriate for that system. I'll see if I can attempt to show you how it's done: >gamecube - Baten Kaitos >psx - The Legacy of Kain, Legend of Dragoon >dreamcast- The Legacy of Kain >gba - summon knight 1 and 2 (and 3 but no Eng?) Riveria The Promised Land (a Wonderswan game redone) >nes - Crystalis, Shadowgate/Deja Vu (also machintosh games they are) >snes - ..... can't think of anything..... >n64 - not enough games really for a hidden gem (maybe the Shadowgate it had?) >pc - too many to choose but I want to remind that I Have No Mouth And Must Scream was a PC game as well as that short story (because I'm a pleb and have never played the oceans of DOS out there) >dos - ^ I have no experience in old PC games >xbox - Breakdown >gameboy - Final Fantasy Adventure of which is really The Secret of Mana #1 (not really but I'm feeling OCD) Though to be fair the games I would list are actually good and you think that The Hobbit game there is obscure because probably it's bad so no one wants to remember it. I don't know though, I never play games enough. Shadowgate and Deja Vu are like a pic related type game before you get exited, Realm of Illusion is 3D but like Mist. They made tons of that for the PC randomly. I find them too tedious to figure out. Realms Of Illusions was one PC game I played, it was pretty and needed like a gig of ram and near 2 ghz processing. I played it on 1.8 ghz though. Actually my gpu might have been the issue because I'm sure Realms of Illusions was old. I picked it up at either a Salvation Army or Goodwill store. You used to find old Gameboys and stuff randomly at such places and old soykafty PC games. Realms of Illusions was one of those Myst type games but 3D and pretty. I liked it's music. I probably don't have obscure taste at all actually, but you opened the box by saying LOTR. Well, That Realms of Illusion game counts, but is one of the soykafty point and click things that are piss easy to program. But it's pretty as it's 3D. Also music. So says I. You will die as you solve the puzzles though (not in the game but your soul will fade away if you have a low IQ like mine as I never beat any of those three games, Deja Vu, Shadowgate, nor that one). I hardly ever beat the point and clicks nor their 3D versions, as in actual and not mock still image. And others I'd played I forgot the name of as I always got stuck. Also, n64 had a Shadowgate so I guess I'll add that, actual 3d and not mock. My point is that those point and click type games were gratuitous and there's probably a list of them somewhere if you looked, though they're generally far too hard. >swf games - same as dos, no idea (though I used to have taste in them as they're not as obscure as dos-box tier old) I never can find the swf I liked that lost a long time ago. I tried searching swfchan and never found the ones I was looking for as I can't remember their titles. They were short anyway, most of them. I miss my SWF games.

>>2890 >n64 has 500+ games Oh soykaf never mind I'm just ignorant in general! I guess some sites never listed them because the emulator used to be bad, or still is. Also I grew up poor so...bye.

>>2890 *realms of illusion I just couldn't get that right huh? I looked it up and found out it was also called Sentinel Descendants in Time. Odd. Defunct company. The point is that their art was pretty and you have to think to solve the puzzles. Like Myst.

Not very obscure but certainly quite difficult to find a working copy.Found at the vr archive. http://infinitelives.net/downloards/KyotoWindows.zip Also another intersting one is Frederik Pohls Gateway.Available at abandon-ware sites, a mix of classic text adventure and vn.Pretty good artwork and the plot reminds me the the scifi Outland from 1981. There is also this doujin game for SharpX68k that has recieved a fan translation,Lunatic Fantasy.Cant get more obscure than that.
Demeere · 2020-06-04 12:10
I hear Gunnm: Kasei no Kioku is a fun PSX game, but I haven't played it yet, since it never officially released outside of Japan, and there's still no translation to it yet. But, if you happen to know Japanese, it might be worth checking out.
