Portable gaming thread

Vasya Pupkin · 2019-06-13 19:17
What are some of your favorite portable games, Lain? Anything goes.
Interactive Banjo Management · 2019-06-13 19:46
Bravely Default and Second were pretty good. Their systems capture a lot of what was good about the job system in Final Fantasy V, and added some interesting spins on them with some jobs.
Agent Jones · 2019-06-13 20:34
Ar Nosurge Plus, Soul Sacrifice Delta, Final Fantasy Dissidia, Kingdom Hearts BBS, and any Miku game
Nguoi La · 2019-06-13 21:28
Does Android count? Playing Ace Attorney on a DS emulator app is pretty gud. Also, Shattered Pixel Dungeon.
Ender · 2019-06-13 22:09
Danganronpa series, there's a vita release for pretty much all of them.
Hagbard Celine · 2019-07-04 01:07
Octopath is my new favorite because it is just the jrpg I've always wanted. Oh and I saw someone mention the bravely series, which is wonderful
Tank · 2019-07-04 02:02
>>2073 would love some good android game recommendations actually. there's the obvious solution of just emulating other systems on my phone, but it'd be nice to see a good lain approved android game for once.
HELIOS · 2019-07-05 07:13
>>2152 If your into roguelikes then: >Cardinal Quest >Cardinal Quest 2 >Hoplite I'm not sure what your looking for, Lain.
Farl · 2019-07-07 06:47
You can never go wrong with the original Tetris
Elliot Alderson · 2019-07-08 16:48
>>2152 I grew a liking to Space Rangers Legacy. The only downside is that it's trying to make you buy their microtransactions. Well guess that's the price for the game to be free. So far I didn't really see any reason to buy them. You can work your way up without them
Koichiro · 2019-07-16 20:21
Shovel knight which is on 3ds, psv and switch
Koichiro · 2019-07-19 02:53
>>2152 flappy bird
BloodCat · 2019-07-21 10:52
I really enjoyed Taiko no Tatsujin on both PS Vita and Nintendo Switch but I wouldn't say it's my favourite. Actually, I just realised that I don't have a favourite game at all.

I'm open to any kind of recommendations, Lain. Help me choose my favourite game.
Mario Rossi · 2019-07-21 14:40
Dragon Quest IX. The postgame is pure autism bait, and has taken at least 300 hours of my time. In every other way it's inferior to other RPGs, but it's by far my favourite game to mindlessly grind.
Erik Johansson · 2019-08-18 21:25
>>2180 Kino choice The 3ds has plenty of neat stuff, like Monster Hunter, Rune Factory, stuff like that. And on the phone, really dig Shadowverse TCG and Destiny Child
Lady Jessica · 2019-08-18 22:18
Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky is my all time favourite game and it has a psp release that you can play on the vita. There is also a "remastered" Vita release but the character CGs lost a lot of their life, and the remixed soundtrack is no where near as good as the original.
Leto Atreides I · 2019-08-18 22:47
Doom Its been ported so many times :)
Faye Valentine · 2019-08-19 17:03
Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers Its got 90s cyberpunk cheese like Hackers, urban supernaturalism, and big tiddy goth gfs, what else is there to wish for?
Meddler · 2019-09-06 18:00
Shattered Pixel Dungeon and Mindustry are pretty good Android games. You can find them on F-droid
Erik Johansson · 2019-09-08 19:28
Concrete Jungle. It looks like another generic city themed mobile game, but it's actually a clever deckbuilding puzzle game
Pulse · 2019-09-10 09:44
My current fav is Wipeout Pure (not a fan of barrel rolls and sideshifts). Also, SMT mainline and spinoffs, the Zero Escape series and the popular puzzlers (think Lumines/Picross). Rhythm Heaven is quite underrated and hard as fuarrrk.
Undisclosed · 2019-09-11 16:29
>>2204 Some fun RPGs for mobile are the Siralim series. I'd say skip the first one if any. You could probably just go straight to 3 honestly. But they're a fun pokemon-esque teambuilding game.
The Phantom Phreak · 2019-09-13 09:36
spelunky
Linda Lee · 2019-09-17 14:00
If you like DOA, you should already know Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 Venus. The tiddy physics really shows just how good the vita hardware is.
zz · 2019-09-17 17:14
i'm currently playing atelier rorona and odin sphere on ps vita, they're both comfy; i liked danganronpa (1 and 2) even though they have some flaws, started v3 some time ago but i'm not in mood to play it currently i guess; i'd say i like detective games the most so i enjoyed titles like hotel dusk, ace attorney, famicom tantei club 2, 999 and others (if you want to recommend me anything of this genre i would be more that happy)
Broccoli Garden · 2019-09-19 07:22
Criminal girls invite only is pretty fun. It was a psp game that only released in JP then it got a Vita port in NA and JP and you can also find it on steam. It's one of the few RPGs I actually finished and the combat system is unique. Very much worth a try.
Hitomi · 2019-10-29 09:47
Dusted off my phat PSP recently and Half Minute Hero is a blast. If you're looking for recs, /v/'s recommended games wiki is a good start.
Erik Johansson · 2019-11-13 22:57
been playing a lot of PUBGM lately, soykaf is actually pretty good to be honest
Switch · 2019-12-09 18:55
School Days is oddly addictive. If you're familiar with MDickie's works, you should know what to expect. I still have no idea what the objective is.
Palladion · 2019-12-22 18:20
I'm currently replaying Persona 3 Portable and trying to get the four-ish social links I missed last time. Very cosy game to play in bed at night
Tequila · 2019-12-27 11:09
>>2152 Shadowverse is a great tcg that you can play on android. It's not as complex as mtg, but more complex than hearthstone.
BloodCat · 2019-12-30 18:11
>>2663 I just beat the fuarrrk out of everybody and try to see how far I can get with it.
Debbie Charteris · 2020-01-06 18:39
>>2290 This would make a nice banner for Lainchan.
Nobody important · 2020-04-06 10:16
The best thing about owning a Switch is having pretty much every mainline entry in 4 Megaman subseries on a single handheld. It's the little things in life.
Lady Jessica · 2020-04-06 10:45
>>2694 Aigis is mah waifu
Vasya Pupkin · 2020-04-06 19:40
>>2290 wow nice! I'll play it on my Vita for sure. Also yeah, I sold off my switch for a PS Vita :').
The Fin · 2020-04-10 21:09
The DS had some fantastic stuff, it's a shame the 3DS shat the bed so hard due to Nintendo's sick obsession with 3D.
Roy Batty · 2020-04-12 21:56
>>2982 Are you me? Though I had my vita before I bought my switch, it was mostly to recoup money. I've been having fun with Atelier on Vita, its laggy but with overclocking it's more than playable, unlocked frame rate too.
Arisu Mizuki · 2020-04-30 23:29
>>2068 Been playing the DS version of Chrono Trigger. The extra content isn't very good and can be used to break the progression, but it's still the same game, which is nice.
Arthur · 2020-05-17 02:51
I liked chinatown wars on my PSP. Was really fun and unique.
Cat Mother · 2020-05-25 15:37
>>2980 she's the best <3
Arisu Mizuki · 2020-06-04 12:19
Megaman ZX and ZX Advent all the way. Those two were some of the best games in the series imo. The world was interesting the designs were amazing and the Biometal and A-Trans systems are, imho, more interesting than merely taking an ability of the defeated boss
Joey · 2020-06-04 16:46
>>3167 They were certainly an improvement on the abysmal Zero games, but let's not pretend they're better than games like X and X2.
Nanashi No Gombe · 2020-06-21 14:23
Some DS games I've played and enjoyed. Puyo Puyo!! 20th Anniversary (Has english patch) Tetris DS Namco Museum DS Konami Classics Seies: Arcade Hits Tingle no Balloon Fight (Balloon fight clone) Irozuki Tingle no Koi no Balloon Trip (Fun point n click game, also has english patch) Space Invaders Extreme 2 (Thanks >>2990 ) Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time (Better than Mario RPG imo) Newer Super Mario Bros. DS (I'm not a huge fan of the "New" series, but this rom hack is impressive as fuarrrk) Wario: Master of Disguise Kirby: Super Star Ultra (It's Kirby) Any NDS Pokèmon game.
Drifter · 2020-07-21 03:44
I just thought I'd say, although this isn't quite the thread for it---it's the closest one I found, that I don't think of handheld consoles as portable, mostly because I don't have a good way to carry them. (And that my time away from home is strictly scheduled.) Nonetheless, I prefer handheld consoles over stationary consoles, because I can use them in any room of my... studio apartment---so what, I don't rent an apartment with more than one room, but it's still more convenient, during \toileteuphemism, than keeping my bathroom door open so that I can see the video monitor. There's something special about having a smaller screen that I can reposition at will, having a headset that doesn't have an ungodly long cable.

I love rhythm games. So, I'd recommend "Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA Extend" on PSP and "Muse Dash" on android/ios/PC (currently my favourite game). Also I'm waiting for "Genshin Impact", this game will be released soon and available on almost all platforms.
Lain Iwakura · 2020-07-29 15:26
Quite possibly one of the best games ever made. Uses virtually every feature of the NDS -- which sounds bad, but I swear it works.
Zhora · 2020-07-29 15:50
>>3356 A friend of mine likes to describe it as "It's not the best game on the DS, but it is the best DS game." He's probably quoting someone else, but it's still a good description
Joey · 2020-08-06 21:45
>>3356 A fantastic soundtrack too. That game was a ton of fun.
Gibson · 2020-08-13 01:16

Any good coop games on android?
Masami Eiri · 2020-10-14 20:45
I figure this is the best place to ask - does anyone know of workarounds for Android games requiring Google Play Services? I run Lineage without MicroG (and don't want to install it...), and I don't usually run into problems except with games. I was playing Love Live All Stars, and it forced a new update recently, which added a stricter check for GP I guess. Before, I'd get warnings that it wouldn't run without Google Play Services, but could just ignore them, and now it doesn't go past the title screen. Any help is appreciated. I don't want to lose my aidorus;_;
