Hackerman mmo

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/defungames/spycursion-hacking-espionage-edutainment-mmo/description Do you think there is a userbase for something like this? I think it would be desirable to bring more awareness to the topic by bringing it over games to the people but so far it seems most games failed to reach a significant audience. Even matrix online didn't do well in it's day despite having no entry hurdle or coding ingame.

If it wasn't called edutainment maybe. Hacknet does an excellent job of being a great game AND a great educational tool, edutainment sounds like "my game isn't good as a game, but i hope you won't mind because education?".

Centralized = dead. Played hacknet, it went off line, centralized soykaf can't handle its own existence. Doesn't matter if there's interest. Not enough interest = dead. Too much interest = centralized pinchpoint of death. Becomes unprofitable? Dies. Many books and artworks were not recognized as masterpieces until many years after the artist died. When you make a game tied to a centralized server, you are creating art that may be able to be appreciated in the future -- but will not live to see the future due to the death you bake into the game. MMO + online economy! == Born with a death sentence = dead. Who cares? Maybe someone in the future would, (retro-cypher-punks?) but not many people today. [i swear, this world is so retarded, in every sense of the word... why even live?]

>>1871 You forget private servers. Many mmo's live on in that manner. That aside i believe the main problem today is getting attention. Everyone is competing for it and these small projects don't have the marketing money to become as visible as it would be necessary to reach their small niche audience. Current AAA titles spend 60-70% of their budget on marketing. That really tells you everything.
