This is the Smash general thread, for any Smash title. Questions for discussion: >Favorite and least favorite smash title? >Main(s)? >What do you think of swordfighters? >GSP? >Who makes the best Smash content? Streamer, youtuber etc >Who do you want added and what would their moveset be? >Any tips for beginners and people new to Smash?

Heyo lainon! My mains are Cloud, and Shulk. I love swordfighters. Have had a fascination with swords since I was a kid.
Sabo Engle · 2019-01-12 03:55
I'm waiting for the Reimu announcement before I buy.
Netrunner · 2019-01-13 03:35
My main is Isabelle bcz she's a qt! Her fishing rod is broken though, but that is why I love 2 use it. Evry1 gets pissed off then I use it 2 edge guard.

Since I grew up with melee I've grown an unhealthy attachment to it but ultimate seems pretty great so far. I main Samus.

>>1687 >Who do you want added and what would their moveset be? Neku from TWEWY

Anyone have tips for improving? I'm not really sure how to exactly get good at fighting games. What mechanics are the most important for someone new to fighting games and new to smash? Right now I'm trying to really think about my attacks instead of just randomly throwing moves. I feel like I'm not really able to combo opponents that much, I'm not able to punish anything as the opponent is somehow always able to break out of whatever situation they're in, so I'm only doing really single attacks. And I feel like it's hard as hell to connect smash attacks and not get punished for it.
Drifter · 2019-01-13 23:08
>>1694 What are your tips for Samus? I've played her a lot ever since melee but in ultimate I struggle with the amount of lag her moves have and pulling off consistent combos

I currently use a pro controller, would it be worth switching over to a gamecube controller?
Motoko Kusanagi · 2019-01-14 07:18
I don't watch any streamers or other people, but I know someone who does. I find myself wanting to improve so I can participate in local tournaments. I'll be begrudgingly finding myself watching videos and reading articles so I can improve at my particular characters, among other things. So far, I've been playing with all items or almost all items disabled. It's a rather smooth game and I quite like it so far, but the gacha nonsense is a bad omen for future games. >Favorite and least favorite smash title? I suppose SSBU is shaping up to be my favorite; I replayed Brawl recently after years and it was shocking to me how slow it was, it's certainly my least favorite. >Main(s)? I like using new characters; the last cycle had me getting good with Little Mac. Now I find myself having the most practice with Inkling and more recently Isabelle, but I still play with Little Mac. I like their mechanics, but I've yet to master any of them. >What do you think of swordfighters? There's too many Fire Emblem characters. >GSP? I don't know what this is. >Any tips for beginners and people new to Smash? If you think Smash is complex, you've not played any other fighter. Smash is the only fighter I've ever really tried to wrap my head around, but Soul Caliber and others are orders of magnitudes more complex from my view.

Didn't someone recently soykaf themselves at smash brothers event and kept on playing? I dont get why people overhype this game when it's just another nintendo cashcow (not to mention it's just a reskin)
BloodCat · 2019-01-23 21:58
>>1687 Never played Smash, because I never really owned a Nintendo console. Is Brawl good for starters?
Ivan Petrov · 2019-01-24 00:38
>>1740 You can play any one you want. You can even start with the first one.
William Holtzer · 2019-01-24 15:09
>>1699 Maximum autists say that there's input lag when playing with the pro controller that doesn't exist in the gamecube controller. If you care about that kind of stuff maybe do the switch, but if you don't and you feel comfortable with the pro controller just stick with it
Neuromancer · 2019-01-25 00:03
>>1687 Favorite: melee Least Favorite: All other titles, haven't played SSBU Main: Peach Swordfighters: My friend and long-time training partner was a marth main in SSBM and the peach/marth match-up was very fun and dynamic to play, so I don't have any problems with them. GSP?: GSP? Best content: Don't pay attention to that sort of thing anymore. Wombo-combo and the smash documentary are gems. My only advice would be to find an IRL training partner that you enjoy playing with. https://invidio.us/watch?v=pD_imYhNoQ4 >>1740 Imo brawl is slow and not very fulfilling to play. I'd say melee is the most fun by far but I'm also pretty biased since it is the only one I played competitively.
BloodCat · 2019-01-26 14:08
>>1743 I only got a Wii (without Gamecube compatibility), and I don't even want to play competitively because there's no Smash scene here.
Neo · 2019-01-27 13:48
>>1744 It's me again, what characters do you lainons recommend for begginer?
Neo · 2019-01-31 17:31
>>1746 Mario
Unknown · 2019-02-01 13:56
>>1757 Hmm, haven't played with Mario yet, but Kirby seems pretty nice. Gonna try Mario and other characters today, thanks lainon

>>1687 >Fav Game I'd always rather play the most recent game than any of the others, but I definitely got the most mileage out of 64 and Melee, probably because I was young when they came out and didn't have a huge backlog of games to distract me >Least Favorite Smash 4 has the worst single player offline content, so that. I got countless hours of playtime out of Melee adventure mode, 64 platforms/targets, and Subspace Emissary, but Smash 4 only had its Classic mode which I didn't really care for. >Mains? Ridley, Captain Falcon, and Pac Man >Swordfighters? Over represented, could we at least get some spearmen/axe users from fire emblem? >GSP? I only played online during a free week trial I had, got to like 1.6 mill with Ridley >Best Smash content? Little Z on youtube >Who do you want added? Just anyone with unique/unusual moveset and not something generic like another Fire Emblem rep. There was a fake leak before Smash 4 that Chorus Kids would be in and I personally thought that would have been a really cool inclusion. I hope Joker gets an interesting kit, I think he has a lot of potential if done right.

>>1687 >Favorite and least favorite smash title? unironically i love brawl (melee is the best), quoting mango "competitive 64 is wack" fishing for combo starters is pretty lame, still like it >Main(s)? 64: pika melee: falco, fox brawl: falco, snake pm: falco, lucario smash4:pika >What do you think of swordfighters? always had trouble against good marths >Who makes the best Smash content? Streamer, youtuber etc this guy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GyMcOKU6bd4 >Who do you want added and what would their moveset be? Ryu Hayabusa, something technical like ryu >Any tips for beginners and people new to Smash? don't jon

Currently I am playing the 3DS version of Super Smash Bros. since I have yet to get a Nintendo Switch. I played the original, Melee, and Brawl. I suppose Brawl is my favorite so far but the final smashes were way imbalanced. Some required a set of skill such as Solid Snake's repeating grenade launcher, others required getting ridiculously close to your opponent such as Meta Knight's dark sword attack, and others allowed you to fill the entire screen with death upon mere activation such as Ness' storm attack.
Leto Atreides I · 2019-03-20 06:14
>Mains Mainly use Isabelle and Dark Samus alongside Little Mac and Pac Man. >Favorite/Least Faovirte Favorite has to be 64 while Smash 4 is just the least memorable to me. >Wanted Newcomer Either Ghirahim, Doc Louis, or Saki from Sin and Punishment >Tips Get down basic fundamental stuff before getting into anything else. soykaf like consistently short hopping, spacing, speed, and turning around can make or break you. There's been so many times I've fuarrrked up due to facing the wrong direction or spacing an attack wrong and getting punished for it.

>Favorite and least favorite smash title? Brawl > Melee > 64 > 4 > Ultimate >Main(s)? Ultimate: Lucina 4: Bayonetta Brawl: Meta Knight Melee: Marth 64: Falcon >What do you think of swordfighters? I love swordies >GSP? 4mil >Who makes the best Smash content? Streamer, youtuber etc no one Present Day, Present Time! AHAHAHAHAHA! >Who do you want added and what would their moveset be? honestly couldnt care less >Any tips for beginners and people new to Smash? Learn fundamentals then play vs people who aren't idiots (don't play quickplay) so play arenas/smahladder

Only played latest Smash. I like Zero Suit Samus the best, also best waifu. Also Elon Musk's main lmao. Recently I discovered the difference of tilt and smash attacks, but I feel like once I know how to play the game well I won't really enjoy it. I've only been playing it with friends offline, we got all the characters together, but I feel like it won't go on forever
Cat Mother · 2019-05-17 14:02
>Favourite & least favourite? My favourite is probably Ultimate or PM. I'm not experienced enough with all of them to say my least favourite. >Mains Game & Watch, and Wario >Swordfighters I mean it makes sense to have different FE characters considering how popular it is in Japan, but a lot of them play very similarly and I think there are maybe too many. >Who would you want added? I read that when they were first adding Diddy to the game, they were going to have Dixie as well and make some sort of tag-team mechanic like DKC2. I think it would be nice if they reworked Diddy to be like that.
