I've gotten a hold of Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas amd after that my interest in tactical shooters has spiked Would anyone here know of any interesting game of the genre, or have any recommendations?

the ARMA series is notable for training with large scale military tactics and techniques (aviation and squad tactics included). Otherwise, the little known OF:DR (operation flashpoint series) had good ballistics and realistic hit characteristics. the original Delta force series was pretty good, but the graphics are terribly dated (to be honest i still boot it from time to time just for the nostalgia) are you looking for realistic shooters or close quarters combat style sci-fi shooters? pretty much all tom clancy games fit the latter. but there is a big difference between realistic combat games and fast paced games. I would also add the FEAR series if you like fast paced shooting action. and STALKER if you like more of an RPG customization and story. FEAR3 is not worth playing tho to be honest Medal of Honor warfighter was notable for its gameplay (but the multiplayer became too much like CoD) and in fact was derezzed by the US army because of the tutorial mission. I would also add to the list battlefield 3 and several of the other battlefield games. on the extreme end, there is always the US army training game "america's army" which I have not played since AA2 (weapon and skill unlocks depended on you sitting through a 30 minute instruction course that was a condensed IRL military lesson) and a guy actually saved lives because he learned CPR from the game. when I was in school, the military recruiters tried to get all the students to play it as a recruiting tool. Ironically, the game was so popular that china came up with its own version of the game.

>>1640 this was true maybe 10 years ago, but now it is so mainstream every Codkiddie wants to stream his l33t skillz (mommy and daddies credit card) to the interwebs and it really took the fun out of playing. if you still want to do milsim with people for training that is a different story (unfortunately this usually means playing with police or national guard users), but still most people who play airsoft today want to drop $2000 to LARP a navy seal, or buy one of 5 different guns, or some people want to get obscure overpriced guns just to be different. It used to be you had to buy your soykaf from asia and hope customs would not seize it for some reason like not having an orange tip, playing meant having someone call the cops on you for some stupid paranoid reason like "theres a bunch of people running around with guns"), and upgrades meant tinkering and custom making parts until you got a good gun. now you just spend more money to buy pre-built parts kits to plug and play from one of 3 or 4 major websites that really try to target to the 12-15 age group. just my gripes with the sport... I actually found a bunch of my airsoft stuff when I was home for the holidays, and thought about getting back into it but I cant stand people who think spending $50 on a vertical grip or $150 on stolen military m4 rails for no other reason other than "but it's milspec and the SEALs use it"

Escape From Tarkov isn't bad.

>>1638 red orchestra 2 is a very good game but the staxis make me hate the game. They give axis mkb42 even though it was very limited not to mention scoped mkb42 was only experimental. Same case for double mag mp40. It's also huge lack of historical accuracy that, axis having better anti-tank gun. Again scoped g41 almost didn't exist. I get that the game tries to flavor the gameplay but giving all these almost non existent things to axis is plainly bad idea. It should have been more asymetric, axis teams should have their squads centrized around mg's meanwhile especially in urban maps soviets should have lots of assault troops and be focused on that.

Older Rainbow Six games like Raven Shield Delta Force: Land Warrior and the rest of the series SOCOM games Red Orchestra, particularly the Darkest Hour mod Operation Flashpoint series and Arma There's also the source mod, Empires, but it's more like an arena shooter with its movement, but there's a huge emphasis on team coordination and logistics.

We are forgetting about Full Spectrum Warrior: Ten Hammers. You don't really aim and shoot so much as flank around and float above your troops while they shoot. The US military used a version of it for soldiers and as far as I know that is true. You have to carry your fallen comrades to an aid station, so sometimes the game just takes down 2 soldiers and you spend an hour creeping down streets with the wounded carried by your other men, genuine fear of the insurgents. I guess you could say it's designed to get you in the zone.

>>2016 Is there much difference between the base game and Ten Hammers? Should I play it in order, or skip the first one?
