>>1132 >New Zachtronics game Hell yea! He makes some really good puzzle games. The only ones I really know which really allow for unique solutions.

>>1133 zachtronics really is great. their first game that a played that really sucked me in was tis-100. i'm thinking of getting shenzhen io but i'll probabably pick this one up first. we should make a solutions thread some time, it'd be cool to see what other lains have some up with.

>>1134 I hope they put out something neat for if you beat it in early access this time too. With opus magnum I actually had a chance to get a patch for only shipping. I didn't go for it though.

Ordered the limited edition, hyped. Gonna be fun flipping through a manual old school style

>>1132 Looks cool. It's basically like the hacking game I was working on with friends. But Zach has more marketing potential and so I fear it's back to the drawing board. Meh, it's still early, so we might be able to rework our design to salvage some of the work already done. Ganbatte Zachtronics! We're huge fans of Infiniminer & still play at the office.

>>1172 Just make what you want alice, its better to be happy than make something you dont want to make cause someone more popular is making it

>>1173 Good advice, and while true, I'd kill myself if we would up "pulling a notch" on Zach, however unlikely that may be. There's enough space in the hacking-game genre to do something else, but very little audience for games where players have to understand low level computing stuff to master it. Wouldn't want to be "just a clone of X" in this particular instance when we could try to do something completely different and broaden the genre. I think analyzing and leveraging exploits in a simulated environment is a cool idea. When we started our project we just wanted a game like that to exist. Zachtronics will beat us to market, but that means we can step up the game and/or take on a different approach. Pic related: Another "hacky" game. Corewars is programmed in "Redcode", a DSL designed for the game; Minecraft's "redbrick" (logic bricks) takes its name from this. Notch later made (and abandoned) 0x10c (a play on 80286) which had a 16 bit VM running spaceship terminals, ostensibly to program / hack them. So there is dev interest in the niche, but there's enough room in design that we don't have to step on each others toes... Sometimes "clones" exist because multiple minds see an unfilled niche at the same time. "Early access" is great in this instance since we can voluntarily avoid such accidental "clonism". I'm looking forward to EXA Punks. When it comes out we can see if Zach skipped any areas we were going to cover. Until then looks like it really is back to the drawing board. Was going to create a thread on our project last week, but realized Lain probably doesn't want some dev-blog for a new project spilling soykaf: >>>/λ/1 > This is not the board to recruit programmers for projects. If you have a project you want to discuss, have a good bit finished beforehand. Not sure how much "a good bit finished" means, but it would be nice to have direct input from fellow Lains while developing something Lain would enjoy... oh well.

>>1174 Core wars was so good until the most recent red code update. The extra increment/decrement modifiers let you spray far too effectively. And you can always post about your project. Just don't go begging for help.

>>1174 There doesnt seem to be many hacking games incorporating social engineering if you want to fill a niche.
Bob Arctor · 2018-08-11 22:04
Okay, so the early access is out. I grabbed it since Zach usually releases working titles there. This fuarrrking router level is killing me, I have to connect to each and every phone, and I have to get the phone numbers from the other phones, I'm having serious congestion problems. Hep

Can someone put here pdf manuals from the game? Would be appreciated

>>1368 im sure you've already solved it but abuse REPL, im at the satellite level, still trying to figure out that clever way to clamp the value

>>1171 >>1172 I think Zach has talked about before how important the OST and overall aesthetic of his games are. As hard as it is to make a good puzzle game, it's even harder to give it a good story, art, soundtrack, etc... and Zach manages to nail all of those. Godspeed with the game Lain

Okay nerds, I'm having a bit of a problem. On the bonus campaign there's a mission where you infiltrate the DoD, this mission seems(?) to require bruteforcing. However, the input doesn't accept combinations in the same way that the previous ones did. In fact, I have absolutely no idea how it's interpreting the inputs at all. I put something like 434 into it and it showed 030 (numbers might not be accurate). Do any of you guys know what it's expecting?
