I've always wondered what would happen if a big studio decided to release a major, highly-anticipated game exclusively on linux. It would be great to see nVidia stop slacking off with linux drivers.

They'll never do that and they'll expect the open source guys on Github to do their work for them.
I think they're just broadening their horizon's so that they don't get locked into being subservient to whatever Microsoft wants to do, as windows 10 gets more and more orwellianly constrictive. Steam's been trying to court Japanese developers to get more stuff on the platform but they still had that eroge fiasco a few months ago that I think is keeping some of them wary. This probably just means Bethesda is going to have some closer R&D with Valve over getting their games on Linux so that they can reduce some of their dependencies on Microsoft Software.

Stop begging them... it's their loss if they won't do it.

Why not just using Wine?
Bethesda is not even worth spending time to campaign against their AAA mentality nowadays.

Doesn't matter if it's still going to be proprietary software. Either they release everything needed to build the software side of the game, or just don't release it all for GNU/Linux. There is no need for proprietary software to be ported to a free system.

I have never seen online petitions influence decisions of any company.

It worked for Family Guy or at least that's what the fans think.
