Well /inter/, it's almost the end of the year.
What was your personal GOTY?
Automata did it for me, though Breath of the Wild, Mario Odyssey, Wolfenstein 2, Quake Champions, Persona 5 and Cuphead were all amazing.
Honorable Mention to Blue Reflection because it's a really bad game and I love it.

My personal GOTY was Nier: Automata as well. I knew that the plot would be great right from the start, and was not disappointed. If You play the game, don't finish it after only one playthrough. The game is meant to be played further after ending A, without the other endings this would be a typical AAA kinda plot. So You need to play it more or You'll miss a lot, and not just "some extra content", things change and deepen very, very much. Oh, and a couple of side quests are very good. Fighting is really enjoyable (much more so on a controller) and I like bullet hell aspect too. To be fair, the hacking minigame is fun, but not fun enough to be "default" for 9S for an extended period of time IMO. And music is just excellent, really fits the game's theme, I would love to hear it live. Overall I highly recommend Automata and would love to check other works of Yoko Taro, but sadly no PS3.
I've played some previous Zelda titles, but didn't like them all that much. I can see how someone might love this games and the new one from the streams/videos that I've seen. I understand why You would choose this over Nier and other titles.
But could someone please explain to me what's so great about Super Mario Odyssey? For me it seems to be a platformer on steroids, fitted with fairy tale graphics mixed with fugly photo-realistic soykaf. I just don't get it.

Been playing for a while now and I've never really liked Zelda, to be honest. A Link to the Past and Breath of the Wild are the only ones I've really really liked.
Super Mario odyssey is just way too fuarrrking fun. It's not an experience like Nier 2, it's not an action game, it's just something where you go, you collect the things, you jump and soykaf and it's completely perfect at it. I've been playing for a while now and the only game that has controls as tight as Odyssey that I can think of is Super Mario World.
It's just way too fun. You should play it.
Oh and also you should play Nier 1. It's absolutely fuarrrking fantastic.

I'm finally getting a ps4 this holidays so only then will I really have the chance to play most of the GOTY tier games i.e. Nier and Persona 5.
I have a Wii U so I ended up playing BOTW, being a massive Zelda fan going in, to be honest the game was really disappointing. I get why people were becoming so tired from where the series was headed, but I feel BOTW almost didn't feel like a Zelda game. Even the core qualities that differentiated the game from past games were super flawed. Repetitive shrines, short and easy divine beasts, empty worlds that didn't reward the player much for exploring. I just don't understand why most are giving it GOTY status.

Opus Magnus is a pretty great puzzle game, probably the most accessible that zachtronics has done thus far. I haven't beaten the game yet but overall it's a very fun and challenging experience, pictured, the cheapest possible solution to 'explosive vile' and the quickest solution that I could come up with for 'explosive vile'

No, PS3/360 only. It's a sad thing, since playing Nier 1 + going with all the side material makes Automata even better.
Pulse · 2017-12-25 04:34
Doki doki /lit/ club is my GOTY
Dox · 2017-12-25 07:26
I guess P5 achieved that status for me. It got me hooked and hyped for the first time in years. That's really rare when it comes to games. I should play Nier: Automata next. Hopefully 2018 will be another promising year. Anybody know if Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony is worth it?

>Anybody know if Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony is worth it?
I liked it overall. The first, fourth and fifth trials was great, the second and third ones were meh, and the sixth left me with mixed opinions. The ending is pretty controversial too, and I can see why. I think the game is better than Danganronpa 1 but worse than 2.

It's by far my favorite danganronpa. DR is known for having sort of crazy plotlines but V3 jumped the shark pretty fuarrrking hard and I completely loved it. Assuming you played DR1 and 2, go for it. It's an amazing closure to the main story.

Only played that recently. Someone told my friend to play it, but he's technically blind so he asked me to read it for him. Yuri was a deep pack-a-day smoker, Sayori was a stoner, Natsuki got Lumpy Space Princess's voice and Monika was a robot Hurt my throat doing Yuri's voice and she was the one we were romancing. So that was fun.
As far as a cyberpunk goes, RUINER is the only game I can think of for this year. It absolutely nailed the concept. The aesthetic, the world, the characters and the music are cyberpunk as fuarrrk. It feels so good to play as well. Only problem is it's quite light on story and not enough calling me puppy. Think I'm going to NG+ after I submit the soundtrack for the radio.
Personal GOTY for me is Hollow Knight. I love just about every part of this game. It's a massive metroidvania that can take well over 20hrs to complete and that's with no filler. The world is rich in history that's connected to other events in the world that forms the basis for everything you do. It's extremely well thought out and detailed. The art is beautiful, the characters are charming as fuarrrk and the gameplay is tight. I highly recommend a second play through to fully comprehend everything that happens in this game.

That's nice, I'll give it a try, thank you lain

Holy soykaf you're right, I missed on Ruiner. I'll give it a chance as soon as I have some bucks, I don't like pirating indie games.
Splicer · 2017-12-28 04:16
I really had fun playing Horizon Zero Dawn, guys. But, to be honest, I'm not that fond into game awards, I do believe the results are rigged somehow.
