What do you guys think about the Uzebox? Its an open hardware console
It looks cool but I'm concerned because it doesn't have a CPU(Next time, research more and open with a better post.)

>A retro-minimalist game console engine for the ATMega644
What do you mean? What are you concerned about?

AVR MCUs have RISC CPU in them, packaged on a single chip. And as we all know, RISC is good...

Well fuarrrk me, never heard of a ATMega before.
Lets forget that I said that It doesn't have a CPU and lets just talk about the Uzebox

What would I win if I get to change my current emulation setup? I'm using an RPi and it seems to work with most of the stuff I want

the uzebox is not an emulation machine, is ment to play original games made for it

It's not an emulator replacement, it's 8-bit console or creating and playing retro-styled games. The point of that is to have a platform with actual restrictions and how much you can squeeze out of that chip.
Personally, this looks pretty good. I thought about computer environment on microcontrollers, e.g. appliance controller, calculator, FORTH or BASIC environment, music computer/sequencer/instrument and so on. Alas I lack any expertise for such project.

I was looking at this guys channel

Uzebox games look very promising, with effort and love they can sit between the master system and the SNES and that can make every one around here happy
The uzebox wiki also has a couple of page talking about the possibility of using the uzebox as a stand alone computer, I think is cool but the only things missing are a couple of text modes and an OS, those two thing will be a complicate but worthwhile project

Sounds like the point of it is glitterboyry. I'm sure it will do worse than the ouya.

I disagree. Assembly is fun, namely because fiddly and challenging programming to solve well-defined problems is fun. How fun that sort of programming is is directly proportional to how many games Zachtronics has sold.
A new platform to play with Assembly, with that sort of fiddling being the explict goal, would be pretty cool, and a good jumping-off point for people who otherwise wouldn't get into this sort of thing. And we might get some neat games out of it, to boot.

Why are you even comparing glorified phone that was sold for profit with open project made by enthusiasts that will gain nothing even if every household has three of them? I looked at the parts, you could build one for like 15€, while the most expensive is the AVR itself, which is 10€ for the DIP package.
>Well fuarrrk me, never heard of a ATMega before.
You never heard of Arduino before?
Definitely goes on my "to solder" list.

that is an unfair comparison because they aren't even competing in the same market plus the uzebox came out almost a decade ago. The point of the Uzebox is to solder it yourself and program your own games to share with people while the uya was just hype squared

>You never heard of Arduino before?
I have heard of it but I didn't know it used ATMega
