I'm playing VA11 HALL-A and it's SO good!!! I particularly appreciated the possibility to add CRT scanlines, very /cyb/. Anyone played this game? Do you liked it? Why? I'm at the second night so please put spoilers under spoiler. Also VA11 HALL-A general
Shogun · 2017-06-20 11:46
I quite like it, it's the perfect game for chilling out. In other VNs I have to pay attention to make sure I don't miss anything, so I can get the good ending. But VA-11 Hall A is so consequence-free, it doesn't matter if you fuarrrk up an order. Usually that's not what you want in games, but it works here because the whole "bar" atmosphere encourages you to chill out and let your worries go. Also really digging the cyb atmosphere, and the perspective from a normal person rather than someone like Adam Jensen. Also Sei best girl, Dana best boss.
Drano · 2017-06-20 15:18
Va11 Hall-A is amazing from various points of view. You should read the stories about the development team on Venezuela. They were/are living in a literal soykafhole. Jill best girl.
Wintermute · 2017-06-20 16:05
>>308 Yeah, apparently a lot of the dystopian elements from the game were inspired by their actual country and law enforcement.
fsociety · 2017-06-20 19:04
>>308 Got a link?
Hong, Guil Dong · 2017-06-20 19:13
>>308 Thats interesting I wonder if the money from the game helped them get out of the hellhole that is Venezuela right now.
Sabo Engle · 2017-06-21 05:13
>>312 He probably refers to this one http://nichegamer.com/2016/09/15/va-11-hall-a-interview-the-art-of-cyberpunk-bartending/
Joey · 2017-06-21 07:54
>>314 That was a good interview. >This is also a way to reflect a statement against most dystopian works. You’re always a hero fighting against the system, but those that aren’t heroes might as well be cardboard cutouts. They have no consequence, they’re either a mass of sheep or a blurb of depressed people. But even in the direst situations people try to make the best of what they got. Even with all we said about the country, we’re still here. We’re not heroes of any sort, nor part of any resistance. That doesn’t mean we are sheep just accepting whatever comes, but we’re just human, and there’s things beyond our control.

I played it for cute /cyb/ waifus while experiencing screeching pain of SJW lesbian agenda throughout the plot.
J.C. Denton · 2017-06-21 14:11
>>316 > Screeching pain of SJW lesbian agenda throughout the plot. At first this bugged me a lot, then I realized that it was two dudes who made the thing. I definitely don't think this is an 'sjw' game at all, remember the android sex worker? Or the 4chan clone that's populated by women, I kinda like how the game works in that sense, it's like a 'reversal' and it's all about the waifus!
Debbie Charteris · 2017-06-21 14:16
>>317 >>316 How was the game in any way pushing some sort of SJW agenda? Is it only because the main character was gay? How is having gay characters pushing an agenda? What do words even mean anymore?
Zhora · 2017-06-22 02:33
I love this game. Like other lainons said, it is really relaxing. Does anyone have other VN recommendations?
Unsigned · 2017-06-22 05:20
>>321 http://studioknockout.com/pl Puppy Love was bretty gud. I haven't played the two sequels, but the first one was solid, playing tribute to while parodying VN tropes.
Postcyberpunk · 2017-06-22 11:11
I'm actually downloading it right now, and I know it's gonna be awesome.
Ishikura "Tatsu" Tatsuhiko · 2017-06-22 13:48
>>321 Steins Gate comes to mind. Also I'm going through the story mode of BlazBlue Chronophantasma and I'm having a blast. If you're into fighting vidyas and VNs, BlazBlue's the perfect game.

The game is just one year old yesterday. Anyone know if the devs have anything similar in the works?
Unidentified · 2017-06-22 20:46
>>329 http://sukeban.moe/index.php/2017/06/21/va-11-hall-a-one-year-later/ Devs just posted this, saying they have 3 games in the works, but that the one they've been teasing is an "unusual genre". From the looks of things they're adding more horror elements. SHELLMAKEYOUDROWNINYOURTEARS MASKCHANCOMES
Jet Black · 2017-06-22 21:04
>>331 You are playing as a delivery bartender who has to run packages through spooky spaces
Unknown · 2017-06-22 21:33
>>316 It's two men making a game about lesbians because they think it's hot. Were it made by lesbians (who are not all "sjw"s), everything about it would be very different, not the least change of which would be removing the references to cucumber masturbation, penetrative sex in a chlorinated pool, and the other sex things that are unhygienic, dangerous, unrealistic, or even physically impossible. Also, consider that the only gay male in the game is an awful, awful "let's all laugh at him" stereotype.
Tyrell Wellick · 2017-06-22 21:48
>>333 you meant mario? Honestly, i didn't read him that way, he was more sympathetic for me maybe mostly because i related to him a lot, he reminded me of me when i was younger
Shogun · 2017-06-22 21:58
>>334 Maybe partly just from already being annoyed by the other stuff, but what felt like that for him was how the other characters all kept making jokes at his expense, similar to how they acted with the token guy bartender later on. It's been maybe a year since playing, though, so the details on those two are fuzzy but yeh >20-something urban girl >hangs her panties in front of the window to display to the world instead of in a drawer or tossed on the bed like a normal human
Bobby Newmark · 2017-06-22 22:15
>>335 Yea, thats one of the reasons why i dont really get people screaming about SWJ stuff in it
H.R. Giger · 2017-06-23 07:26
>people complying about SJW agenda in that game Can't liberalization of culture and disintegration of traditional values part of dystopian cyberpunk future? This game didn't try to push anything, just how oversensitive can you be.
Miho Iwakura · 2017-06-24 08:05
>>340 they just misread it from the language the characters use
Nanashi No Gombe · 2017-06-24 12:46
The creators of the game made an app which simulates Jill's phone, even with a working textboard. Pretty cool, is called /u/nited i think

>>305 >mouthbreathing glitterboys who misuse "waifu" and can't hold a candle to the original PC 98 titles that inspired them liker YU-NO. I didn't know lain had such pedestrian taste, but enjoy your overrated "le ironic weeb" garbage I guess.(USER WAS BANNED FOR THIS POST (RULES 3, 4, 5, 6))
Donna Hawthorne · 2017-06-25 01:08
>>347 How is this anything like YU-NO?
Wintermute · 2017-06-25 12:54
>>333 I don't particularly feel like Mario was being made fun of, just seemed like a guy who felt pressured to act all manly and comes to terms with enjoying girly drinks and admitting that he likes dick. Got specifics about which jokes were at his expense? >>340 >Can't liberalization of culture and disintegration of traditional values part of dystopian cyberpunk future? Well, the dystopian part kind of implies that personal freedoms are being restricted and people are forced into easily-classifiable categories. But sure, it fits a futuristic story to continue the trend of classical family values being replaced.
Hiro Protagonist · 2017-06-25 22:18
>>351 Restricting personal freedoms doesn't have to mean restricting personal expressivity. People can be disenfranchised from politics, have their property rights unprotected or trampled on by corrupt police etc. For a hypercapitaist cyberpunk society people having freedom over their appearance and sexuality can actually be beneficial to the rulers, since it opens up new market possibilities for fashion, or body modifications, and because having workers be more interchangable stops them from identifying with eachother and acting as a collective. For a more contemporary look consider how normalization of LGBT status has affected other areas of progressive mobilization. In the 60's and 70's there was serious solidarity between gay rights, women's rights, and anti-war groups. Nowadays the hallmarks of gay success are being a CEO, getting married, or joining the military.

I remember playing the demo a time ago. this game seems goo, but im not much into VN though.
John Doe · 2017-06-27 12:17
>>305 I got it while on steam sale i know what you mean its nice to have a game i can just chill and play in bed, Just turn my RGB lamp to purple have a cup of tea so fuarrrking comfy man thanks for recommending me this
Demeere · 2017-06-29 15:26
The Gauntlet clone hammerwatch has some really amusing visual options as well, including scan lines and a simulated monitor curvature
Lord Nikon · 2017-09-14 23:04
>>305 Hey OP, I played it and haven't finished it (yet), I like the universe of the game, and the dialog are really cool, but the gameplay is , well, a bit on the weak side. As a player you don't have a lot of challenge, I knew that it was more of a story driven game when I bought it but still, it could use some more interaction imo.
