BEYOND GOOD AND EVIL
Jet Black · 2017-06-14 20:23
Is anyone into Beyond Good and Evil here?
Is anyone hyped for BGE2?
I really dig that south-asian/cyb atmosphere shown in the trailer. I have high hopes.

It's a prequel, it's Ubisoft, they showed zero gameplay, and even the first game was mediocre at best.
You don't even have to take into account the the little quip from the 'narrative director' specifically mentioning that it's a multikult, multiracial society (yes, I know of the setting/plot of the first game) when there was no need to do so, to all but know that the game is going to be a mess.

Way to stay on topic man.

It looked pretty schway if you ask me, tho I've never played the original. I'll probably get it during the steam sales
J.C. Denton · 2017-06-14 23:31
I really liked it, never played the original tho, but the cinematic was excellent. So far so good.

When you have a pig, an afro girl and a monkey, mentioning multiculturalism seems quite relevant. I'm not sure what your critique is about.

>needing to spell it out after showing a 5 minute pre-rendered trailer with everything already being shown
Also:
>someone in the crowd cheering that particular phrase on in addition to it
I guess you're right, though; always time to signal virtue.

>giving a soykaf about a pre-rendered cinematic
You are the problem with modern games.

It's just a guy presenting his game, and in this game there is a pig, an afro girl and a monkey, you're criticizing his use of words as if it was a movie script. It's only natural to repeat himself.
So far you're not criticizing as much as policing other people so that they like what you like and don't like what you don't like. Use proper arguments based on objective reality if you want any conversation to grow from it, nobody else is in your head.
>"You are the problem with modern games."
You do realize that this is not a website about the videogames industry, correct? People are just talking about a presentation they enjoyed, and even if we were "game dev chan" you're not saying anything besides "agree with my opinion because i want you to", which is quite childish.

>policing others
>neurosuggesting that I'm projecting my values onto others
>picking apart a low effort banter post in a low effort thread
It was clear in what was meant to be accomplished by stating it aloud, hence the cheer from the crowd (her target audience). Again, if the FIVE MINUTES of a teaser wasn't enough to inform, then a recap without the use of a few well-known buzzwords that are regularly associated with virtue signalling alone would have been just fine if deemed absolutely necessary. Though I still don't think the attention span of the average viewer of these events is that short. I'm wrong, though, as word choice is meaningless and there's no such thing as speech that intends to affect a response; all works of prose, speeches and presentations included, are at all times benign.
And yes, your clearly very non-hostile grown up argumentation has truly placed you and your ideals far from reproach. The annals of lainchan will undoubtedly point to your lack of attempt to question things further and draw a fully formed conclusion as the pinnacle of post making. What a truly glorious day.
>objective reality

I loved the first game. Trailer was cool. However the high quality of the trailer is concerning as AAA games are usually soykaf

What did he mean that was so clear? If you want a conversation, use words, not implications and suggestions. What are you grasping for? What is your point?
> I'm wrong, though, as word choice is meaningless and there's no such thing as speech that intends to affect a response; all works of prose, speeches and presentations included, are at all times benign.
Nobody besides yourself said that. If you want this conversation to continue, speak directly and honestly, otherwise there's no point to it.

I refuse to believe that anyone who could lose the plot so quickly could exist, but here you are attempting a reversal of the mock divisiveness with some "actual" divisiveness after already acknowledging the original statement.
Let's spell it out plainly for you:
They specifically mentioned the buzzwords of 'multiculturalism' and 'racial diversity' in order to signal both their virtue and their intent within the project; I felt they already did this in the trailer. And the only point in mentioning it again immediately after a five minute trailer was to score points with their fellow SJWs, or whatever you'd like to call their contemporaries that would care so much about this specific talking point of identity politicking.
It's not like people have used a platform like this or position such as the one they're in to push an agenda or something to that effect. Oh wait, Palle Hoffstein and his friends at this very company (Ubisoft) have previously policed speech, actions in their games (multiplayer or otherwise), and have attempted to push the exact agenda I'm implying they're pushing here again.
Afterward, I engaged you in banter at several points, with you dismissing the banter as "untrue" statements with attached posturing. No fun or hyperbole or facetiousness allowed!
>in during this isn't clear enough or a cohesive enough 'argument'
>in during '>SJWs'
>in during muh conspiracy theories/opposite political bent
>in during more posturing from the "high ground"
>in during there actually is someone out there that couldn't immediately read into the first post given some time spent on the internet in general and more or less get the gist of what was being implied

"Multiculturalism" is a core aspect of the game, according to the game creators, that isn't virtue signalling as much as mentioning that there will be nazis on wolfenstein. If there is some political agenda, it's irrelevant to this thread and discussion, since this thread is about specifically the game and what we thought of it. What you're doing is saying: "you, you and you, stop liking this trailer! you're everything wrong with videogames!".
This is not 4chan, often times people don't have a lot of patience or interest towards pepes and implying and all of this tiresome tug of war, you type a lot but say very little, and no matter what i tell you, you'll always think that i'm playing the same game as you are. This thread is just a simple thread about a simple trailer and what people thought of it, your paranoia derailed a single sentence into political propaganda.
Nameless · 2017-06-15 05:30

>paranoia, despite the company's history
>moving the goalposts

>take things at face value once more and insist benign's the word
You've come to the same conclusion incorrectly again, congratulations. And you are playing the exact same game as me, you just don't realize you are.
Also, you are the one, the only one, who took issue with my second throwaway bit of my first post. Are you sure I'm the one in the "wrong" here?
>police the thread because one bit of one post falls squarely outside of your sensibility bubble
>jump to conclusions
>accuse your me of what you are guilty of yourself
>dismiss everything as irrelevant at your convenience
I see you've read Alinsky.

wow, this thread is soykaf. Why is it a big deal what the designer said or whatever? You're judging something that doesn't even exist yet.
Anyway, based on the trailer, it looks pretty cool.

Being somewhat older than average teen audience of lainchan, I can say that I enjoyed the first game when it came out.
BGE2 looks pretty decent and I hope it will deliver same level of immersion and "otherworldness" like the first game.
inter · 2017-06-15 16:55
While many of the complaints leveled in this thread are valid, it's arguable that this is an appropriate way to handle this, as it turns a thread detailing a game rather entirely into an argument.
A thread will be made for discussing the current state of many game companies and the environment and these discussions may take place there, instead, for the most part. Currently, the earlier discussion in this thread will stay.

Attached is an image from the trailer, as it's not been posted yet.

I don't even know how you get into cyb if you have this much of an issue with politics and especially multiculturalism and racial diversity. i mean what the hell do you think neuromancer was? or hell like 80% of PKD stuff
