Anyone here plays Sindome? I heard about it lurking around, it seems pretty interesting, already created a character and went a bit over the basics but I don't feel like playing right now. Is it fun? I've never really played anything that required hard roleplaying but it seems that it could be really fun.

It's my favorite MOO out there, OP. I could never get into HellMOO because of all the out-of-character stuff that goes on within in-character channels. But Sindome actually feels super immersive and more "legitimate" because it forces you to stay in-character. I recommend the webclient, if you aren't using it already, due to the helpful way it colors different text and highlights certain words/phrases. Discussion of in-character events anywhere outside of the game is strictly forbidden, and can carry up to a one-year ban, but that's just to protect the sanctity of the roleplay. So, for instance, if you were to say "My name is X" and another Lainon responded and said "My name is Y" and you both decided to meet up somewhere in-game... that's against the rules. It seems a bit much at first, but it makes sense once you realize how much stuff like that can devalue and derail the roleplay aspect of the game.

>>207 It sounds like a cool experience, tbh, do you still play it? I was actually thinking about meeting somewhere haha, but now I'm just asking

>>204 >Discussion of in-character events anywhere outside of the game is strictly forbidden Sounds like a game to boycott, then.

>>233 Why? It's more of an RP than an actual game. You play it for the RP, not just to "level up" or whatever. Discussing and planning in-game things outside of the game devalues and diminishes the value of the roleplay. You're trying to immerse yourself in the role you're playing and outside discussion diminishes that.

>>236 It's not about that, it's that stuff like NDAs take away your freedom.

>>236 Why does it matter if someone discusses something outside of the game so long as it has no effect on the game? Is it really going to harm the RP if someone talks about how one of their characters died a week ago? The guy could even leave out names. Also, not being able to plan things outside of the game is rather bad. Most RP I've seen in games tends to be pretty bad unless it is planned, because it's really nothing but talking about nothing. Not the worst part of it though, would be playable even with that if not for the rules of conduct. Great game for progressives.

>>303 >Why does it matter if someone discusses something outside of the game so long as it has no effect on the game? Because stuff like that can. It's a cyberpunk game. Lots of scheming to take down rival criminals, lots of plotting nefarious plans to sabotage business rivals. Stuff like that wouldn't be as effective if people got wind of it beforehand. And it might fuarrrk up your plan. >Is it really going to harm the RP if someone talks about how one of their characters died a week ago? The person could even leave out names. Broad-strokes is fine, specifics aren't. "My character died recently and I made a new one" should be okay. "My character X who lives in Z and does Y and got killed by Z person because of X" is too much in-character info to share. Why? It's not just the death that matters. The circumstances surrounding a death, the mystery about why and how it occurred, are just as important as the death itself and drive plots/RP forward just as much. When someone dies, the whole city doesn't automatically know exactly what happened. Friends of the deceased will try to tell it one way, enemies will try to tell it another, witnesses will give their own fragmented perspectives, and in-game media companies might try to put their own propagandic spin on it. And this can be the source of conflict that drives roleplay forward. >Also, not being able to plan things outside of the game is rather bad. Most RP I've seen in games tends to be pretty bad unless it is planned, because it's really nothing but talking about nothing. That's the magic of Sindome, though. Everything is handled by the robust staff of GM's. You only plot out your own role, other player characters react accordingly, GM's puppet NPC's to get them to react accordingly. You're only ever supposed to see the limited perspective of your character, and that's part of what makes it so immersive and fun. You can leave notes for the GM's outlining any plans/goals/whatever your character may have, and they'll guide things along that direction (though you aren't always guaranteed to succeed. This is cyberpunk.). It keeps the sense of mystery. The game mechanics aren't discussed either. You don't go into character creation knowing, oh, I should build my character with these exact stats to play this specific "build." There are no builds (but of course you can tailor your stats to what you have in mind for your character). You don't know that stuff until you try it because you're learning alongside your character. The exact way combat works isn't shared. The exact way most game mechanics work aren't shared. Because stuf like that breaks immersion. When you're new to the game, and this is something magical I've seen nowhere else, MOST of the questions you have are answered in-character. So if you need to know where a certain location is, you don't ask over the OOC chat or game help channels. Your character asks over the in-game chat network. Because stuff like that helps foster interaction between characters, gets the ball rolling, helps your character meet people in-game. In general, think of it as a roleplay black box that keeps the realism and immersion going.

>>237 You're agreeing to the "NDA" in order to play the game. If it wasn't enforced, then the game wouldn't work as intended. If you feel like your privacy is being taken away by playing it then just don't

I played the crap out of HellMOO, and it made me really appreciate MOOs. How is this if I haven't RP'd in awhile? Do I just have to jump in the deep end, or can I sort of puts about and acclimate before getting serious?
