OpenSpades is a thing. Game is not that easy for first timer, so I used to practice building and shooting on zombie server. Just dont be pussy and quit after first 15 minutes. Also say hello to kurwaaaaaaaa, I am usually at american babel server. http://openspades.yvt.jp

Has there been much development after the original AoS team sold their souls to Jagex? I remember there being plans for stationary mgs and whatnot. The shooting was too much rng for me but I kind of understand the reasoning why you would want to keep it in the game, so I haven't paid much attention. Nonetheless, it was a fun little game at the time, can't imagine it being worse now. Worth a shot.

Last time I played the main game, years ago at this point, I believe there were some more "traditional" servers that tried to recapture as much of the original game as possible, but it wasn't the same.

I used to play the classic version when it was free and quite enjoyed it. Always wondered how it got transformed into what it is now, nor did I put in the effort to realise you could keep playing the classic version. OpenSpades looks great though!

There's an open source client, it seems, but is the game itself open source? Can you download your own server software or do you have to use some companies server?
