An online graveyard. Dusty servers still powered. Strange locals. A digital temple containing records of the Wired's past. Good for chatting, exploring, admiring the beauty of it. /need help entering? http://users.worldsonline.com/jimbly/index.htm http://smurfyworld.no-ip.com/jett/ /other info/links https://uboachan.net/og/res/443.html http://www.teamavolition.com/topic/5301-worlds-the-rabbit-hole-of-gaming/

Is Endless Forest still running? Or Neocron?

>java 6 ... and again i'm not able to look into this.
XERXES · 2017-04-24 12:18
Someone got the client agent for City Of Heroes up and running, but without the server architecture it's basically just Second Life with superheroes. No powers or combat, but you can still customise your character and walk around and chat.

Some time ago I had the idea of 3d environments like these being an standardized protocols and software so any son of a gun could set up a one of these in any server. I think VR worlds like these haven't had too much acceptance because they're always closed inside a single service and the only thing being sold is the novelty of the service. Imagine if you went to amazon, clicked to browse it in VR and then you'll be walking in a mall. you go to a chan like this and in VR it is like club with a bar. The point is that we should take 3d environments and load them over the services and communities that already exist instead of having to create new ones over a new proprietary service.

>>132 Imagine a cross-compatible thin client that's so lightweight it can use a bit of RAM and fetch "game" data and functionality p2p. And imagine if anyone could build and launch a "game" on top of that. Switching from an online racing game or an mmo to an online game where you're lounging in a train and chatting with people would be clicking a "join server" button. Or parking your race car, boarding the train, and chilling on your way to a 40man raid on in some sci-fi dungeon.

Going to try this out later on. Always intriguing to find relics of the internet's old days.

Would anyone want to explore this thing again ? Would do it myself but it seems creepy as soykaf.

>>774 it might sound like a clone, but activeworlds.com (I think it's called) is, well, much more active, and instead of a world-based system, its main hubworld is simply one large expanse that goes on for hundreds of miles, derelict constructs from a bygone era littering the sprawling skyline. In a weird way, I find it soothing to be among the abandoned.

I downloaded it and put it in a WinXP VM, but when I try to sign up it tells me my username is incorrect, no matter what I enter. Anyone know a solution?

There was a pretty creepy thread about this once before. Weird stuff is in worlds.
