Why is everyone acting like nothing's happening?

Lain Iwakura · 2026-05-20 08:29
It's obvious that in the next few years we'll have extreme unemployment rates.Things have already been really bad for a while, the media just refuses to acknowledge reality so everyone thinks they're just individually suffering. My former employer tried to replace some dumb automation I was maintaining with AI and now they're back to doing everything manually, i literally now have first hand experience with people trying and failing to actually leverage this soykaf in a way that is threatening. But I guess it doesnt matter, the global economy won't resist the ongoing war on Iran, so we will see AI fuarrrking burst into soykaf, take the stocks with it and jobs will not come back anyway. It's joever, this is the kill yourself economy. Once the true pricing of AI is revealed, it’s not going to be something most organisations can afford to utilise. The megacorporations like Amazon will probably fire everyone to replace them with AI, but I can’t see every mom and pop business that nevertheless currently survives against automated conglomerates going all in on AI. "Just learn trades" won't work - guess what, everyone's going to be doing that. I think a anyone should be prepared to become indefinitely unemployed, with a very high degree of propability, in the very near (5-10 years) future. How are you preparing?
Emmanuel · 2026-05-20 09:58
>>98718 the automation of labor long predates the rise of AI, which is simply one of the more superficial manifestations of capital's negation of life (c.f. debord's augmented survival). as this process continues to accelerate material wealth will continue to concentrate, but given the current geopolitical situation it is probable that capital is going to suffer a pretty major reorganization these coming decades. nevertheless this phenomenon is neither new nor is it predicated on any formal system of power. we have built a machine far more complex than any of us is willing to admit, and to answer the title question, everyone's acting like nothing's happening because nothing is happening. this machine is proceeding in its operation very smoothly, eliminating every point of failure at every level of its operation as it presents itself. the media is also one of the more superficial manifestations of this organism, and indeed one of its more important self-regulation organs, whose purpose is to continually affirm its founding predications and express its genetic material, which is then carried out by its moving parts, whether human or otherwise.
Hagbard Celine · 2026-05-20 16:09
a lot of economist are being really dumb about the whole "just go blue collar" thing. It's about 3-4 years needed experience for a white collar person to regain most of their salary in the trades assuming everything goes well. It's not an emergency safety net, and just starting out you won't make much more than you do in fast food. realistically a lot of people are just going to end up somewhere in the war economy or on the street
Erik Johansson · 2026-05-20 16:37
If everyone is broke how will big corps stay in business, will they sell to LLMs, and government bailouts can only keep them afloat as long as there are people paying taxes. Maybe a slave class will keep things running for a while but I think even the immigrants will go home when things get that bleak

i've always been broke and unemployable so i'm already prepared, i'll do random odd jobs and trade/scavenge/steal/make stuff to sell like i've always done. i don't have children and i live a simple life so i don't need much to live. i'm excited to see the economy collapse and everyone being out of work and miserable, i've been waiting for this for years, it will be a lot of fun to watch. what i might do is get into moonshining, get a 50 lb bag of animal feed corn and some yeast and build a big still and when everyone is broke and miserable and can't even afford to get drunk on storebought booze with all the inflated prices and sales taxes i can sell them jars of cheap corn liquor to cheer them up. and if some no-account carpetbagger from the government comes out here to try and bust up my still he'll get a .30-30 in the hind end.

I will be studying electrical engineering, out of the love for creating things and understanding the world. Ai will never take that away from me. I fear having to use ai in order to stay competitive in the workplace and seriously hope this whole soykaf blows up before that. But i already see it happening. My fuarrrkass coworkers keep talking about ai and try to create bots that trade for them. Its so pathetic. I hope there's some other lains at the uni I'll be going to. And I hope i can quit my job at this bank I did an apprenticeship at to work somewhere where I actually create stuff, not just Sysadmin BS with suppliers who cannot handle their soykaf. At least I barely get any work assigned to me. Stoned homeoffice Fridays my beloved <3

But my guess is that EE is the same. I think they even use it to chat the times i had to ask stuff. I think google is just releasing some more integration with phone apps so that people will just shut their brain off and be spied on permanently.

>>98741 >feudalism never ended it totally did, though. A feudal lord has specific bonds with his vassals, he couldn't just hire and fire them at will. In most places he was both your employer and the law. Peasants were often required to dress in a way that people could know their social class just by looking, and they would be required to bow before the feet of their social superiors. The economy was overwhelmingly agrarian and almost all skilled trades were tightly controlled by guilds. Does this sound anything like the modern day? Feudalism is quite fully dead and gone in most of the world and replaced with capitalism, which in fact is not very complicated at all. We all understand it well enough, because we live in it. Why try to obfuscate the issue by calling it something else?
Just another Random Lainon · 2026-05-21 14:13
>>98718 I don't mean to be that guy or anything like that, but if the person you're talking to happens to live in a nation such as India then their statement makes a bit more sense. Yes, traditional feudalism is in fact dead, that right there isn't debatable, but elements from feudalisn can unfortunately still be found in certain parts of India's society through the caste system. I'll name a few similarities between the caste system and that of feudalism to start off with, divided into hereditary castes (jati) and Divided into hereditary classes (nobility, vassals, serfs). Caste System: Rooted in Hindu religious beliefs, where caste reflects one's past actions (karma) Feudalism: Intertwined with the authority of the church, particularly in medieval Europe. Hereditary Nature: Both systems are characterized by a clear hierarchy where individuals inherit their social status. Each system creates significant barriers that dictate social interactions, jobs, and even marital prospects based on birth. Cultural Reinforcement: Social customs and laws reinforce the status of each class or caste, making it difficult for individuals to change their social standing. Again, this is a sad reality for some people who live in the nation of India. Feudalism in it's traditional form is officially dead and will stay dead, but there are elements of her ugly face that can still be seen.

>>98758 Who are these capitalists then? Are they not the equivalent of feudal lords? So what, they put on different clothes and all of a sudden everything's different? That's merely theater.
Mentat · 2026-05-22 02:30
>>98766 There is definitely a difference. McDonald's CEO does not have a private army and the president isn't paying him to use that army for his own war for example. A worker is not owned by the land and is not tied for life to the land he lives on. At least in theory anyone can become a business owner but the serfs could not become land owners. Capitalism definitely came out of feudalism but they are still vastly different simply because industrial society is so different. What I would compare the current corporatization of the west that came about mostly after big tech is something that is coming closer to what we saw in the former eastern block. The former eastern block was an economical system in which the ruling class used all their means including violence to build a complete monopoly over everything. And I cannot help but feel like the west is slowly moving towards that goal where we will have one huge monopoly ruling over everything

>>98799 >You pay for your own slavery and destruction. that is the business principle in so many places these days, and it must be actively countered. the solution to that is not a answer but a question to which the answer is yes it is one of the wef prime wagers that man gave away in exchange for no worries the monopoly of violence the right to execute force against oppressors the trade off of this in exchange for the promise of alleged safety from bodily harm, protected by the new sovereign, the incorporeal entity that sends its executive forces when the situation is dire. but what if it fails because it is rotten ? hollowed out from the inside ? starting to protect the predators instead of the pacifists ? well you can only hope that pacifism itself has not turned into poison of the mind and body this can go on only for so long the corporation does not concern itself with the suffering and hardship of the individual, it has no emotion, it does not bleed, it is immortal unless it is killed.
J.C. Denton · 2026-06-05 01:51
i like to focus on the bright side of things. one thing i am looking forward to when things get really bad is there's going to be so much crime and so many people in jails that they won't have room to jail people for petty crimes because they need to make room for all the murderers and whatnot, so going to jail won't really be a big deal anymore, you'll most likely be right back out on the street in no time and you won't even have to worry about it hurting your chances of getting a job because there are no jobs anyway. life will basically be like trailer park boys where you and your friends just live in squalor and nobody has a job and you just hang out all day getting drunk and high and eating chicken fingers and stealing everything that isn't nailed down and dreaming up crazy scams and illegal soykaf to do for cash and you eventually go to jail for a little while and then you get out and pick up right where you left off.

Even most protests are literal pysops funded by billionaires. America is a nation of 300+ million and yet the fact that people still can not take power away from just a few hundred shows you that the system has failed. Even the Luigi event pretty much a blimp which only got a tiny small fry. So many more people die when they are threats to the elite rather than idk just taking them out. I have yet to recall a modern billionarie ever having to pay consequences for their actions ever. >>102124 All it would take is for a large mass of people to drop this bullshīt act that they are all too powerless to do anything, and then we all get together and do something, the crushing power of a mass of humans, faster than bureaucracy can respond. I should not have said it would be easy, it would not be easy. It would be simple, but hard. Kind of like sticking to a diet and losing weight. Simple, but hard. And we all know how westerners feel about dieting. At a certain point, if people do not decide to take the simple but hard path, they are all complicit in the abuse. I think people are just waiting for a starting gun, for someone with authority to tell them what to do in order to finally hang the epsteiners. They do not realize that they are ultimately waiting for an order from the epsteiners themselves, and it will never come. I will continue to speak out until I am either silenced by force, or the epstein class have all been hanged. People may one day mass and move at once to accomplish this goal. We will see.

The problem is that people are individualists. Too few if any are willing to die for a small contribution toward solving this situation. There would have to be a large cultural shift. Those in power have power because of those under them who use violence to enforce their wills. If those who actually engage in the violence on their behalf all died, there would be nothing left to protect them and their ways. Life isn't GTA. There are not infinite police officers. If there was a widespread cultural shift toward cops being kill on sight, things would change. If everyone decided they were willing to die just to bag a cop or two, this whole matter could be overcome.

>>102158 >destroyed with a few well placed machine guns. You can't just mow down all of your cattle and expect to keep harvesting year over year. Plus the optics of doing so would guarantee further resistance and sympathy funding for militias. >>102162 I agree the issue is no one is willing to die for such a cause. Not even that no one is willing to die, I certainly am willing, but no one is willing to die right now for no reason. Until there is a clear goal and a tangible means of achieving said goal, people would rather not die in vain. The internet is getting flooded with bots and feds, which makes forming that clear goal next to impossible here. Public, real life spaces have this weird energy to them that makes it similarly difficult to discuss these things. It's like a psychic field of sorts, you never talk about real soykaf in public for long. Perhaps it's the idea that anyone can record you at any time and get you mocked or fired. The panopticon. But maybe it's just our young generation being pussified, unable to withstand enough discomfort to discuss real issues off the cuff. This crusade might not even need to lead to violence in general, we could come up with a mostly peaceful path that still leads to justice for epstein crimes. Mostly peaceful, I still want the major players to hang of course...

>>102174 >You can't just mow down all of your cattle and expect to keep harvesting year over year. At some point the cattle wise up and stop trying to rebel. That, plus you restrict their information about the event. This is the basic authoritarian playbook. See the Tienanmen Square Massacre.

>>102174 It's difficult to get a small group of people to agree on >what's wrong >how things should be >how to get there >how to fund it >who should be in charge >how to prevent infiltration >how to handle conflict within the group and all sorts of other things. Trying to organize a whole nation just isn't happening. You need to have a program that is simple and compatible with an ocean of people who have all sorts of different beliefs and goals. Just kill cops is the best such program. I don't care what you believe, the cops stand between you and enforcing your will. Nazi, commie, ancap, some other special snowflake, all of them need the cops to die in the short term. Let everyone unify in that one goal now and then worry about warring for power after. The only reason I don't go shoot a cop in the head today is because I don't believe anyone else will. This is why we need a cultural shift. A good propaganda campaign repeatedly and widely calling for distributed and isolated ambushes on a particular day at a particular time could do it. There would need to be time for people to hype each other up and gain confidence in each other. If you had long been hearing people talking soykaf about how many cops they'll kill on day of the barbecue, then it wouldn't be so tough of a sell to join the revelry. As a bonus, as long as everyone does their duty and doesn't bitch out, no one who survives has to fear prison.
