Digital Memories

Terzibashjian · 2026-02-18 07:32
First, let me explain something to people that might be new to this site: All lainanons have a folder on their computer specifically made for cataloging the digital memories they've accumulated throughout the years; its a rule, and if you aren't following it, you are NOT a true lainanon!!! So, yeah, this thread is specifically made to share our fondest digital memories, whatever that might be: Pictures, audio or text It would be really really cool if you gave some context about the memory in question though (I chose to do the thread on this board because the main subject are MEMORIES, which are of course, deeply embedded into the human experience)

>>96810 What differentiates between a digital memory, and a memory captured digitally? What counts as a digital memory?

>All lainanons have a folder on their computer specifically made for cataloging the digital memories they've accumulated throughout the years idk man do we
Dujour · 2026-02-18 12:55
no true lainon actually looks at lainchan
Unspecified · 2026-02-18 13:40
All those crude and ridiculous stoner comics hastily drawn with ms-paint which were frequently posted on 420chan. One of them I remember is the two stoned dudes who sit down in class, one desperate to remain discrete but the other reacts loudly and obnoxiously to the teacher saying some ordinary word, like "analyze", bursts laughing out loud shouting "Anal! Like a butt!" with his face drawn grotesquely with his red eyes (of course) also like his gross, flaring hairy nostrils.

>>96813 Probably, as people seem to spend their lives collecting stuff, whether that be memories, photos, music, books, souvenirs &c; you get the gist. Therefore, most people -not exclusively Lainons- have a collection of something, often in regards to memory, photos (such as selfies or of sights) being the immediate example which comes to my mind; and items of this collection may be digital, probably in proportion with how ingrained computers are with the person in question, statistically, hence it is more likely that a Lainon has an extensive digital catalogue, however it should not a rule; like, many people prefer physical media, which is somewhat more fitting for a Lainon given that it gives you more ownership over your media, although I would say piracy and open-source are the most Lain-like. Personally, the item which evokes the fondest memories is my copy of The Perks of Being a Wallflower, which I got for free, due to the relationship it has with my mental health journey, though this is very much downhill, as I learnt things about myself as a result. >>96810 (Pic related) So, the context behind this is that I was surfing the web a while back, and on a webiste which I believe may have been imitating an older Windows version in its aesthetic, and on what I assume was a boot-up imitation there was a string of hexadecimal digits that I suspected represented an ASCII string (I can't remember what website this was from, but it was probably some hops away from https://cattle.nehulus-vagus.com/transition), and thus I pasted the hex into some hex-to-ASCII converted, from which I got the related pic; I found it funny, because I am one. Unfortunantely, my memory is awful so I don't know what else to write.

>>96812 I should've taken more care when writing the thread xaxaxaxaxa I think that both things are intertwined A memory captured digitally is exactly what the full sentence implies; a memory that has been saved in a format that is digital in nature: Be it a picture, a 3d environment, a video, whatever Now, a digital memory is anything that we might remember that is digital in nature. With that logic, we can say that this thread occupying space in my brain is a digital memory, because yeah, the nature of the thing i remember is entirely digital The reason as to why I believe that both digital memories and memories captured digitally are intertwined, is because: Anything captured digitally that you can recall, becomes a digital memory instantly. You are not recalling a cool picture you saved on your computer, without the nature of the picture itself being digital

usually when glowies on my computer tell me to do something i do it but this time it sounds a bit fishy

>>96822 Hm interesting. Maybe I will post some of my digitally captured memories at a later date :)
Otto Normalverbraucher · 2026-02-27 22:55
>>96822 >>96810 >if you aren't following it, you are NOT a true lainanon!!! That's not unique to lainanons, though. I'd say most people have folders like this. It's pretty common to save when you come across across cool things that can become digital memories.

Basically, discovering the depth of AI's readyness to discuss topics with me goes to my "fond memories" list. I guess I need one, too. Did you know you can suddently tell AI a line "You're just like lain" and it may suddenly tell "You're right. We share some of the key similarities [list ...]"

>>96936 THE PICTURES WERENT EMBEDDED SORRY giving a little bit more information about what any of this has to do with memories; almost every single wallpaper depicts mundane scenes that most people can somewhat relate to (Going out to buy alcohol, gathering with friends to drink) I love the idea of people enjoying themselves from time to time with friends, and so, with every wallpaper I make, I try to convey that
William Holtzer · 2026-03-03 17:19
>>96936 i still cant embed pictures, fuarrrk Maybe its due to me sending 2 at once; ill try only uploading one from now on
Frank Garza · 2026-03-03 20:28
>>96813 I don't anymore but for many years I had folders dedicated to the various forums I browsed, chat rooms I used, and projects I was a part of. They were mostly full of OC I made, sometimes screenshots of fun things. I also kept similar folders for the OC my IRL friends would send each other. It was very nostalgic to scroll through it. But I deleted all of it a few years ago.

>>96810 >All lainanons have a folder on their computer specifically made for cataloging the digital memories they've accumulated throughout the years No I just use the downloads folder. I still haven't consolidated all my data onto one drive or even one computer. At one point I had all my own custom folder system with scripts to populate the folders, but I haven't bothered moving it over. Linux is very tiresome (even after using it full time for over a decade) >fondest digital memories, whatever that might be: Pictures, audio or text Fondest is a little too specific so I'll just share one I'm fond of. Picrel is the wallpaper I used for a acme colorscheme rice that I had for i3. Everything program on the computer was themed properly. I had css for stylish, an emacs colorscheme (custom not the one on github), chromium ltheme, i3bar, gtk, qt, the whole nine yards. It was the first and only time I ever riced my whole setup. I was going to learn go-lang in my down time. (Not the most realistic idea as I was working full time) Some things came up with family and I still don't know any languages other than elisp and a little shell script. Of course the X220 it was on overheated and died. Picrel reminds me of when I had a lot more hope. Nowadays I am just on ldar.
The Fin · 2026-03-15 13:55
I'm just not going to share my fondest memory because WHO THE fuarrrk ARE YOU? Way too many of these datamining threads (n > 0). Picrel I found funny and it fits neatly into how I know Lainons. >>96999 >no downloaded pictures folder Same. I'm writing a distributed file tracker / manager atm and this is one area I'll apply it to. I've a few active folders, largely unsorted. I like to quarantine lewd pictures sometimes because then I can browse my folder and not be met with suggestive imagery, when I'm extra prickly I also quarantine politically themed images. My inactive folders should all be in archives atm, I dump a copy of my homedir and reinstall OS about every three years for each device.

i have many old photos backed up and sorted through into various locations and periods of my life. I can look back at them and be sad about times changing

This is kind of pointless as I don't have it anymore and im not even sure if I can post it here but I used to have a folder of all my favorite flashes from /f/, its still on a dead puter somewhere I just need to get it off. If swfchan is still alive none of it is lost media but a lot of it soon will be. A lot of gachimuchi thursgay posts I cant find anywhere on youtube.
