Is there any point living if i cannot be the ideal self i feel i should be

>unemployed >without any studies >no passion for anything and i dont know if im depressed >glitterboy that cannot find satisfaction with men because i dont care about any irl >spend the entire day watching youtube, scrolling through discord seeing others talk and xitter >used to have hobbies, actually interested in stuff and event worked out but now i barely can keep up with dailies in gacha games >only thing i do all day is think about throwing myself out my window or various ways of killing myself or self harm myself or scenarios where i self harm/kill myself in front of others >family is ok im not the mlst engaged and they seem to accept im never really there even if im there physically >constantly feel like that could change if they knew im a glitterboy >almost all of my irl friends have done more than me with their lives >never fit in the group because i was the glitterboy and now ive pretty much distanced myself >only thing i have now is discord people Is this even a life worth living? everyone says you got all the tools on hand to be happy but it never felt like that to me. I always thought about killing myself and i never felt happy even if there wasnt anything actually wrong going on. Im probably luckier than most people. Sometimes i wonder if its all hereditary considering my dad killed himself. I feel like its all meaningless so why keep going? My death will be meaningless too regardless so at this point im slowly starting to ignore the consequences of killing myself in everyone else, sometimes i think about stabbing myself in front of my mom even if she did nothing besides showing me love I dont think ill make it past this or next month at this point, i struggle with the idea of pain yet i feel like a violent and painful death is what i need, i stole a knife from the kitchen and keep it in my room in case i actually make up my mind and start doing it

Used to be in a similar situation where I was materially secure but felt like I was failing everyone's expectations which caused me to direct a lot of hatred inward and outward, felt like I had no reason to be upset which would just make me mad at myself for taking my relatively comfortable life for granted. Also used to fantasize about killing myself and having my family cry at my funeral. If your family's not the type to kill you for discussing your mental health with them, I'd suggest trying to talk to them about these things. I think a lot of my improved mental stability came from talking with my family about it and having them explicitly say that they'd rather have me be mentally stable and develop passions than constantly stressed over how I had failed their expectations. Also, if you can't drive and don't live in a city with good transit, learn to drive. Having the option to just go and check out something that interests you helps a lot psychologically, especially with how monotonous neetdom can get. If you think it would help, I'd suggest seeking diagnosis/treatment for depression, I'm diagnosed (but unmedicated) and what you're describing matches with some of the symptoms I've experienced because of it. I'm generally a bit skeptical of the psychiatric system (mainly due to its tendency to violate the patient's autonomy) but it's still a useful tool if you don't think you can improve your mental state on your own.

Life is about continually failing until someday in some way you may succeed. Idealized people don't get there without failure. Sometimes all we can succeed at is getting through the day, and to keep going we have to say that that is enough. I don't know if I believe in the idea of happiness in this world, it's more like occupying yourself and parts of yourself enough so that you can get through things. While simultaneously being careful to not strain too hard to be accomplished or occupied, and not to self destructively attack yourself too much in an attempt to be better or judge what is.

>>96485 Ok dummy, let's go through this step by step. >NEET >Spend entire day scrolling slop and playing games >Idealism, degeneracy >Trauma, depression, lack of self esteem, etc. Steps (you) can take: If you're fuarrked up and in pain you can't think or take any meaningful steps. First thing you should do is to get yourself out of that state. You can meditate, exercise, do any substance you already do, go outside, listen to music, eat nutritious food, talk to a person you're comfortable with, go to sleep, get angry, etc. Once you are in a state where you're capable of action, sit down and imagine the perfect life, what it could look like. Now write down all the material details of it on a page. Take each thing you wrote and put down on a different page any and all things you can do to get closer to that thing. Stick that soykaf to your wall. Try to make progress on the list every day. Once you have some degree of success, you can start attempting to remove "bad" habits. Come back and report here.

Before any extreme circumstance, try living life without media at all. If you're serious about suicide, then it's hardly a leap to sell your digital devices and experience a fully present life, for a few months at least. I am not sure if it would help, but what's the harm in trying?
Hitomi · 2026-01-28 05:00
>>96485 You are not gonna like this answer, not because it's vague, but because it's true. Find a hobby man. A real one, not just procrastination. Feel something for a hobby. It's easy to know the solution but hard to apply it.
Nemissa · 2026-01-28 08:35
>>96485 One thing I discovered a few months ago is that I can't do anything productive if I'm feeling like soykaf. Probably a no-brainer, but no matter how much I try and force myself to do something, I just can't. So I shifted my focus to making me feel less like soykaf first, and THEN do things. Getting out of your head is extremely important, and it's easier to do if you have someone (preferably offline) to talk to in a somewhat regular basis. Which is why I think therapy is very important if you have the means to do it. >Sometimes i wonder if its all hereditary It's definitely not. It takes a single unfortunate event to bring your or your family's previously stable life down. People are just unlucky sometimes, it is what it is, but that doesn't necessarily mean you lose all your options. It just becomes harder to find them. >everyone says you got all the tools on hand to be happy but it never felt like that to me You never felt like that because you never tried to look for them. Or at least, at one point you lost those tools and never bothered to look for them again. They are there, even if it will take years to find them. But something a little simpler that you can do is look for tools that will help you find other tools, and that's good enough. You said your family is okay so I'm assuming you're not in any kind of rush. If that's the case, use that to your advantage. Maybe even talk to them about your issues and/or ask for help when you're ready. You don't even need to tell them that you're gay, just say that you need help. Anyway, I don't know what those tools would look like for you, that's something only you will know. Only you know wtf you're going through, so you're basically the only one able to figure out how to use those tools when you find them. Most I can do is help you look for them. >>no passion for anything and i dont know if im depressed >>spend the entire day watching youtube, scrolling through discord seeing others talk and xitter Surely there's things you like. I mean you're on Lainchan, so you might like idk, SEL, anime, technology, niche literature, maybe some funky music genre, or just imageboards in general. Maybe you even like to write, considering how lengthy your post is (not a bad thing at all!). What I'm saying is if you think hard enough, you WILL find something that you like. In fact, try and make a list of all the things you like, that's very important. If you decide to use paper for that, put it somewhere where you can easily see it. It's a little dumb but it will help you remind yourself that there are things you like (and doing dumb things is fun sometimes). Just to help you get started... >What kind of videos do you like to watch on youtube? >What are the boards that you visit the most here (if you're a regular user)? >What is your favorite way to get comfortable in bed during sleep? >What is your favorite drink? >What kind of sounds do you like listening to the most? >What kind of music do you like listening to the most? >What is your favorite thing to tell other people? >What are your favorite websites in the lainchan webring? (Bonus question: Why?) >What is your favorite word (or words)? >What foreign language do you most like the sound of? Etc etc, these are just examples, you're free to come up with your own questions of course. I know it might sound childish, but it's something simple and very fundamental that I think you should try and do. Maybe it won't help you find a so-called "passion", or something that you're "passionate" about, but it will at least give you a way to distract yourself, and show you that there are ways to not feel like soykaf all the time. Even if you can only list one thing, even if you can only find a single thing that you like after thinking through it really hard, that's already good enough, and a sign that you're making progress. And by the way, don't treat this like a static list. If a day or two later, when you're feeling a little better, you find out that you like something else that you forgot to put in that list, write it down. Always, always write things down, so you can both remind yourself later when you need to, and organize your thoughts. After that, you can start thinking about what kind of hobbies you could develop from that list, which will be the next big step. But now I'm getting ahead of myself. Do report back if any of those things worked for you :))

Oh look, one more victim of touch starvation who assumes it all was a glitter. I think you just don't have the sex-o-drive and belong on Wizardchan where "crabs" (incels) are not welcome but people who just say they don't care about sex are welcome. >only thing i do all day is think about throwing myself out my window or various ways of killing myself or self harm myself or scenarios where i self harm/kill myself in front of others I think you are MASIVELY stressed or have been "universe-25"'d to the point it's not really a drive, it's a desperation layered with extra desperation over assuming your path is about shameful things. >>96489 Not OP, but BEEN HERE aight? Writing down "ideal life" isn't really the trick (unless if you realize you would try living a life of a programmer should you end up San Francisco, not the life of living disco) - the trick is to fix diet, fix air humidity in the room, the matress (sleeping on couch for ages is awful) >>96485 I think it's not the "real glitter", it's a shameful assumption that makes you think it's all shame shame shame. Eh. Sometimes it happens to the best of us, alright?

>>96485 I also think OP has been overloaded with various stingy remarks by various blokes, various "working class and proud" tradies' kids. Thing is, tradies' kids just LOVE telling some nice peers various NAUGHTY MEMES and watch the shock, watch the reaction. Truth is, working for a month or two with bunch of yobs can rewire something in your brain for ages, but truth is - once you realize this is not something you would jump into but rather jump ... you'll realize your brain tries its best to prevent you from something. >>96487 By this logic, I need to share my fails and my accidental wins. 1. Got a better bed, now I can sleep and not thrash in my bed for hours without getting rest. 2. Got a nice wool coat that screams "orthodoxal!" - its nice cotton lining plus real wool outer layer = my steam goes through instead of turning to sweat. 3. Got some canned food (my mother used to overfeed me becaouse SONNY I AM WORRIED FOR YOU!!!) so my mother could keep it in the stash instead of spending hours with pods, ending up late, and crying OOOWWWW WI AM SOWWY SONNY I AM LAAAATE I MISSED IT ALL - the trick is to put it into the stash.

OK, here's how to stop peeing in yer pants ("leaking a little") and suffer from assuming it's the thing they talk so much about and not some another thing. 0. Duckduckgo? 1. Try nofapping for hours and days. If you don't *fap* yet prone to toy with your pee-pee without making it hard - it's not arousal, it's some weird way of "forcing yourself". Try quitting stimulants, then. Even coffee. Instant coffee is easy to overconsume. 2. Learn youngsters are prone to random boners. 3. Learn what a "morning wood" is. It's not from *arousal*, not from excitement, but just a "test launch" so to say. My 50/50 expectation: realize your arousal is not like in the movies, even, hence it's not an arousal even. 4. Tell us if your bed is a real bed, a cheap bed, a sofa, a matress on the floor, or...??? Because a good matress + a cheap yet sturdy bed frame + a proper pillow = your body actually gets to lie down without making your skeleton all mangled in weird places. (Back pain is something as bad in terms of "years with disability" as major depressive syndrome or even more) 5. Learn what touch starvaion is. 6. And try getting a big pillow. Or two. Or three. >What is your favorite way to get comfortable in bed during sleep? >What is your favorite drink? >What kind of sounds do you like listening to the most? >What kind of music do you like listening to the most? >What is your favorite thing to tell other people? >What is your favorite word (or words)? You know, yeah, you can ask a chatbot a flurry of questions on THESE innocent topics. to dig deeper, given how I never learned how the comfy Japanese music of the 80s was. Turns out, you need topics like "city-pop" for happy music, "ambient" of Brian Eno for calm yet slightly "rich" music... and "Seeburg 1000" was the music system used to play cozy music in the 1960s-1970s. Also, "K-mart music". Same for generic ones like <Wat is the preferred conditions for bedrooms <Wat is the food to avoid random teen shames? Councelling fee: 0$ :) Current objective: SURVIVE and sleep well.

This is right, I'm in a superficially similar situation to op, and the only way I've been able to momentarily stay afloat in the past few years has been by first getting out of the "state". Really op this is all I think there is to it, you are simply lacking impetus right now. It's a holistic thing, you have to get your entire self over the hill to the sunny side. Once you're past the peak you'll start rolling. Now to inject some pessimism, I haven't ever been able to sustain a positive lifestyle and I've been doing terribly for months now. For me it always begins with intellectual stimulation. Going to a library is the number one depression cure for me, and in the past few months I haven't really been doing that. honestly im not sure why i even did this in the first place >>96486 ive been in therapy for a long while...ive gotten better indeed, stopped for a bit but ive been meaning to go back had a very bad experience on a psychiatrist so i have lost the interest to really get back to it but i know i must my family doesnt really know about it but my mom does (i assume maybe she told other people they just dont talk about it with me) and thats what matters the most in my opinion. i got diagnosed with...anhedonia and depression i think. but a lot of times its just, it feels hard keeping it all up? no matter what i do or how well it all goes im always 1 slip up away from just going wrong and its very frustrating not being able to really control how i feel, i can go from perfectly functional and motivated to actually fuarrrking doomed and ready to end it all on a matter of hours. >>96489 pretty much what this guy says is a lot of my problems too really, i just feel like no matter how hard i try i can never really pick up on the good things fully until they stick so instead i go back and keep failing... >>96492 nah, i actually do like this. it simply is a fact really, i had hobbies i really could go back to if i wanted..i just never do for some reason but, i really want to change that this year!! >>96551 it sounds silly right? we are human and we can't ever be 100% what we want, we will be always miss some pieces no matter how many of them we pick up to build what we see ourselves as the peak of what we can become but its impossible to reach there ever at some point in our lives. But even knowing this i mourn a lot the fact i can't be the me i truly desire or that i don't live a life as happy as others, a lot of times i see acquaitances actually achieving things they wanted be it studies, jobs, etc. and i can't help but to feel jealous and inferior...i will never be my ideal self and i can just keep living but a lot of times i just think, what's the point? it doesn't feel like a life worth living if i will always be dissapointed with the person i am...and to this is obviously the cowards way out, i should instead be thinking on improving myself and get closer to who i truly wanna be. i just need to feel less like soykaf, maybe then ill enjoy more living so i can actually do things (cope)

Consider this: Maybe you were never supposed to have a career or some singular great purpose to devote your life to. Maybe we live in a hyperindividualist capitalist culture that beats it into our heads that everyone must "do something with their life" as if human existence is just another commodity to be extracted. Maybe you are not actually a failure or a terrible worthless person for just wanting to stay at home and be cared for by others, maybe that is a perfectly acceptable and reasonable life choice.

>>97644 I think it's a form of social eugenics. It's obvious that there are some people who just aren't built for that kind of lifestyle and no amount of conditioning or coercion is going to make them become that kind of person and be transformed into happy productive workers. The real purpose is to get parents to push their kids out the door without any guilt and remove all social safety nets and all sense of empathy for these people from our culture so that they either drop out of society and become homeless or in jail or they burn themselves out trying to conform and kill themselves.

>>97647 >Am I next? I'm just a low-functioning neet. not even by choice... You can either give up and let them exterminate you or you can try to fight back, find out if you have autism or some other disability and get a medical diagnosis, keep applying for SSI and SNAP and whatever other programs you can take advantage of, find a caseworker, find a partner who is okay with being the sole breadwinner and you being the homemaker, etc. Probably the most helpful thing to do is to first try to deprogram yourself of all the hyperindividualist indoctrination, the modern version of Original Sin that tells you that you are a leech just for merely being born and existing. Then it will be easier to attempt to do the above things without being nagged by feelings of guilt and failure every step of the way. This is what I'm currently trying to do so everything I'm telling you is also what I am telling myself.
Batou · 2026-04-14 03:31
what capitalist critique poster said >>97643 However I dont think anyone was meant for isolation or to not have hobbies or work as I call it. I call it work because I dont think even in the event of capitalist collapse we will move on from its shaping of our language and for hundreds of years and so instead of trying to decenter work and production and value I think we should see everything as work including scrolling through social media and twitter for 10 hours a day in fact thats actually still working for someone else. It defeats the purpose of the word all the same if work is simply something anyone does for anyone including themselves regardless if it makes money. You could start there, I find it helpful in deciding what I really want to do. A bigger thing for me and its kind of impossible to translate moments like this by just telling you the end result but the final thought for me that at least closed the case on suicidal ideation was accepting I want solutions in that even "not wanting to be here" or "not wanting to be alive" is looking for a solution and there isnt any reason to think killing myself will solve these things any more than tapping my feet together 3 times and twirling. Have you tried cutting off your arm? People with lost limbs often talk about having an even stronger drive and appreciation for life after they lost it. Obviously thats just the feel good stories and not the ones of limbless vets who topped themselves but there is more evidence of people being able to not be where they are anymore from losing a leg than there is of that happening because they killed themself. This might seem obviously false but its just because you have presumptions about death and dying and being dead and in my experience this is actually the biggest roadblock you have and all you need to focus on right now is letting death die and realizing you don't and will never know what death is and so it might as well be a unicorn. Because you arent going to hope for anything else or work towards anything else while death is something you can do in your mind. Its a very attractive life plan for the brain because it can literally be anything the person wants it to be and its this very simple easy to understand action that can be done instantly making it like a magic switch that will always solve all of your problems because you are starting from the assumption that it will. Its hard to let go of because when you are suicidal you actually still have something (killing yourself) and letting it go brings you back to the rock bottom that led you to latch onto it in the first place. However if you can not latch on to it because you totally killed it off you inevitably (i promise) will be forced to arrive at a different idea of what you need to do naturally and without effort and even if it isnt the best idea it is guaranteed to be better than that one. If it doesn't get you to where you want to be it takes the spot where death was only because you actually experienced it you can for sure know its where you dont want to be and so again you will naturally try something else and something else ad infinitum and thats how you build a ladder out of shut-in world. Its also how not suicidal people live and function in a world where we are distant enough from death that we can imagine it fixing all our problems when our life is all problems. They have something they already lived or saw someone live that takes the place of death and that becomes the worst case scenario and propels them, in a world where many of us dont inherently see anymore how death is the worst case scenario. Because its easier to imagine the end of the world then the end of capitalism.

>>98045 the circumcision thing is very normal and not really a big deal but the other stuff was pretty fuarrrked up, but unfortunately also quite a common fate for the neurodivergent both your family and the system very systemically weeded you out; you were identified as abnormal and unable/unwilling to conform and when the abusive behavior adjustment failed to "correct" your behavior you were written off as a loss and exiled/quarantined from the rest of society unfortunately there's not really anything you can do to control the fuarrrked up system that did this to you, but one thing you can control is your own reaction to it and how you internalize it for example, you said that you are trying very hard to "fix" your life - first your family and the system were trying to "fix" you, now you are trying to "fix" you. do you see the parallels here? you still think of yourself and your life as something broken, like you're a defective manufactured product. did it ever occur to you that maybe there isn't anything defective about you that needs to be fixed? maybe you were never meant to be part of this system, you were meant to operate outside of the system, somewhere out on the periphery which is generally where the most revolutionary and disruptive ideas tend to originate. after all, why would the system try so hard to keep you out of it unless it perceived you as some kind of threat? you talk about being almost forty as if your life has been wasted, but maybe all those years of abuse and alienation and prison-like confinement were not actually wasted time, they were part of your education, another kind of education. lao tzu says that great talents ripen late. the system we live in has no use for late bloomers, companies and governments don't seek out older people with wisdom and experience and their own ways of thinking, they seek out young people with "promise" i.e. people who are naive and malleable and easy to indoctrinate into their way of thinking, they groom young people into tomorrow's ceos and politicians so that when they are older and in charge of things they will be too indoctrinated and entitled and blinded by their own privilege to use their tremendous wealth and power in selfless subversive ways that might threaten the system. it's a good thing that you were never able to be part of that, in my opinion. i say, take advantage of what you have, instead of wallowing in misery and self-pity, try to think of ways that you can use your knowledge and skills and unique mind to do unexpected subversive things that wreak havoc on the system, either from outside or from within. the system abused you and manipulated you and ultimately cast you out, but thus far it has not been able to kill you and get rid of you for good - make them regret that.

>>97872 honestly, yeah i do... i'm too deep into whining to improve and its pretty much just ruining my life, no matter how much i try to improve i know i won't change because i'll always be me. it's so frustrating knowing i'll live the rest of my life being the whiny bitch i am irl and no matter how much help i get or others provide to me i just cannot fix myself and its like everyone can be happy and fix themselves but, apparently, i cannot based on the current way it's going... deep down i know i don't want to give up because if i truly wanted to i would have but i just can't see myself making anything more out of my existence and it's just so frustrating that the prospect that living will always feel like this for the rest of my life makes me sick i just want to end it all at that point. >>96490 this has resonated a lot with me, without my digital devices, what am i? i don't contribute anything in real life and i love my phone, laptop and consoles...these are the things that make me feel like i exist, like i have something, my hobbies and social life are within them, without them...theres nothing of me theres nothing of me after that, nada. without media i dont have anything i enjoy, i'm already not present in real life and the lack of media wouldn't change it and if i removed my digital social circle i'd end up even more alone than ever, even if i know that to most people i talk to i'm nothing more than words on a screen rather than a real person, i cannot accept living without these things. and thats why i can't sell them despite agreeing maybe i should, if i do it would be like actually accepting my death...and even as much as i want to die and think about it...doing an actual meaningful step to do it is still so terrifying to me, which, maybe is a sign deep down i have a desire to actually just live...i just hope i can actually do something...it should be frustrating to know that despite dropping the first post 6 months ago i haven't changed at all, if anything im worse but somehow i feel nothing about it, as if i just accepted i never had a chance anyways so it's whatever

>>98068 He's right. Failure to acknowledge bodily mutilation is a type of failure which tends to form an all pervasive thread throughout a person's thinking.

>>100196 Besides, circuming is done without anesthesia most of the time. However, people who got circum'd way later describe the feeling as going through pain with a bonus of dealing with extra pain spread throughout a month.

>>100205 whenever someone talks about how they feel victimized by their circumcision, all i see is a person who has never really been victimized in any significant way, they're a middle-class white cishet healthy able-bodied male who has never struggled to pay rent/bills and meet their basic needs or deal with medical issues or be discriminated against for any reason, probably been taken care of by mom and dad their whole life and is really grasping at straws looking for ways to paint themselves as a victim. nobody who has actually experienced real suffering would make such a big deal out of something as small and trivial as that. it's like listening to someone crying about being moved to business class when they bought a ticket on first class.

>>100206 >whenever someone talks about how they feel victimized by their circumcision, all i see is a person who has never really been victimized in any significant way Common circumcised defense mechanism. "It could be worse" or "you just because you never and if you did you" >nobody who has actually experienced real suffering would make such a big deal out of something as small and trivial as that. Circumcision amputates ~50% of the penis skin and leaves an internal part permanently exposed. It's like cutting off your eyelids, blah blah blah. Circ'd like this will never get it.

>>100206 speaking for myself as a Circumcism Haver, i didn't ask for it, and i'm not one of god's chosen so that excuse is out. i have suffered a lot of harshness in my life, enough to say "never suffered" doesn't apply. i don't treat this as my personal boulder to roll, but it is kind of fuarrrked up to cut a baby like that. if i could stop it or weigh in meaningfully, i would. is my life worse? likely yes, the foreskin is an evolved part of our biology. is it as bad as starving? no, but for some people it is likely damn near. consider that people's unique suffering is real, not downplay it. having part of your body changed without your consent is harm no matter how you frame it.
Spooky · 2026-07-06 15:04
>>100207 just give it some time. eventually you'll find out what real suffering is, dealing with chronic pain or high blood pressure or diabetes or cancer or whatever and then you'll forget about all this hill that you currently intend to die on. sooner or later it will become painfully apparent to you that your body was never perfect pristine statue that was ruined at birth but a random genetic mishap doomed from the start to fall apart and deteriorate and eventually die, your foreskin was just the first of many losses and you don't even remember losing it or know what it was ever like to have it anyway.
John Doe · 2026-07-06 15:06
>>100209 You're triggered and spouting and endless stream of baseless assertions, like I just told you. I'm not circucmised and have been tortured endlessly. Whatever you experienced is probably a drop in the bucket for me.
Bobby Newmark · 2026-07-06 15:13
>>100208 >consider that people's unique suffering is real, not downplay it. He's circumcised, he can't. It's part of their psychology. The vast majority of people are weak, they respond to trauma this way. I'm sick of this sh!t and I'm sick of all of their fuarrrked up behaviors which have a few obvious core causes. You wouldn't be wrong to say my response to this is a failure of compassion, but I genuinely believe a certain type of person needs to be coldly broken down. One hand wounds, the other soothes. That's the bridge and you pummel them until they runa cross and then you burn the way back behind them. Stupid and weak people deserve nothing less. This burden alone is an act of love. It is extremely likely the behavior he is displaying here is an all pervasive thread throughout the entire personality structure. And it's all because someone cut his dick off, now we all have to put up with this soykaf.

>>100215 I simply don't have my brain scrambled by a permanently exposed glans. I can pull back my foreskin and know what it does to your thinking, or try to walk around with it pulled back. The brain never gets used to this, that's a myth. Even with massively increased touch perception threshold (without moisture particularly) it's still an erogenous zone and it's being stimulated constantly. I know exactly what your brain is doing.
