How do you cope with the end of the world? The world has turned and became a very dangerous place. Every year is worse than the last and unprecedented events keep happening at an accelerating rate. In a few years, we will either live under an AI powered surveillance dystopia (one world government) or collectively get killed because we are made of atoms ASI could use for something else. Out of all the possible futures, a quick extinction event seems the kindest fate of all.

I regret to inform you that the world is not ending. You're just looking at things in a relativist way and consuming too much doomslop. Good luck, have fun, and try to not give up. Often times, we run into a problem where someone may wish to give up due to expecting the worst outcome, only to find the worst outcome did not arrive and they are now 6 months behind on whatever goals they had in mind before they decided things are doomed.
Case · 2026-01-06 10:51
Look, I don't know about any of that, because I can't predict the future. What I do know is that there's people around me and problems that I have to deal with that are a lot more tangible than that. I'm sure you either have people around you, or problems that you should be working on, or literally anything you should be doing right now. That's where you should focus on, not on some hypothetical future stemming from a nebulous fear of AI.
I totally get what you're saying though, it's just that worrying about something that is much much bigger than you will get you nowhere. Focus on the little things. Regardless of whether your fear is reasonable or not, there's nothing you, a single person, can do about it. Not saying that you should "give up", but that you should give up worrying about society's problems, and worry about your own. That's how you cope.
And mind you, none of what you're saying is new. People in every time period have been preaching about the "end times", and every single time, one of 2 things happened: 1. It never came, or 2. People were being paranoid yet again while society just adapted to whatever changes had happened, and everything turned out fine. So don't waste your time on this, life is too short for that.

Look. I kinda *always knew* the world doesn't need more of people like myself so I decided to not resist yet not to speed up things eithrr.
I also hope some certain nations will learn to swap things not for money and profit, but also to help each other out in terms of sorting out !overproduction! issues

I just live my life and enjoy the good-enough times while they last. Drawing, sewing, looking at the birds, trying to be patient and kind to peoples around me.

Very, very zen. This is how to be happy regardless of the state of "the world".
Hitomi · 2026-01-08 11:47
Covid and all the other stuff made me tired to wait for the end of the world frankly.
Besides i already want to basically live as independent as possible and have the means for that im not too woried no more.
Besides if you see trough the world most people are just dumbasses and people screw up all the time in every section and things go wrong a lot, especially for those people who really wanna stamp the boot down.
Their miracle thinking machines do not work as intended and cops are corrupt and lazy and people get worked in other ways.
Most of the ones behind the schemes are just talkers who talked a lot, dont ignore it but dont worry about it.
Just try to focus on getting things under control for yourself and not worry get worked up over things that you have no effect on.

As >>96102 already stated, the world isn't ending. Not in the sense of Western-led world order destabilizing or collapsing nor even in terms of global warming or climate change. Although the fall of empires is an undeniable, and inevitable fate of all, and extreme global warming would surely be bad news for the long-term existence of humankind, they both require a bit more time before they can fully come into fruition. Even if, for instance, Taiwan were invaded around 2027, Ukraine war were lost tomorrow, West Bank fully annexed by 2030, Greenland and Canada incorporated into the US within 3 years, average global temperature crossed the 2 degree Celsius point by 2080, global debt grew by another 100 trillion dollars, and the secret sauce for a breakthrough in AGI technology to occur were attained within the next decade or two, you can rest assured that the world won't be ending anytime soon. The fortunate thing in all of this is that, despite even the worst possible outcome(s) coming into fruition, you *could* weather them all until you reach your merry elderly days, after having enjoyed a full life in the mean time, if you only play your cards smartly: minimize dependence on centralized systems, own your own data, energy and tools, maintain privacy, and build robust social networks at your local community, so that when the going gets though, the though can go shopping :D. If you can manage all that, by your pension days it won't matter if half the population were turned into Borg hive worker drones when you've got at least yourself covered. Moreover, this pitiful Doomerism is a waste of energy on your part, when you could be right now investing all your time and effort into helping people around you, and building a decent future for those who you'll be leaving behind after your own curtain call is due, as >>96103 also stated. And even though I might be "painting the devils on the walls" here with all my not-so-subtle nods at and confirmations of your preconceived notions in regards to the coming hellscape you promise us in your OP, I need to point out that none of this is in any form hopelessly unrectifiable or fatalistically predetermined. These are all social issues we *can* affect for the simple reason that they are man-made issues (for instance, only a few months ago they managed to overturn the EuroChat proposal in the EU because the citizens were concerned over their privacy). All you need is dedication, determination, imagination, some grit, effort, and a fair amount of good old hard work to effect change in the world in cooperation with other people.
These are the kind of voices you ought to listen to at this point in our time: >>96139 >>96145 >>96103.
To sum up, don't surrender to the idea that these are the end times, because they most definitely are not. And even if they were, don't be mistaken by the degree to which the world will end, because it won't be a total one, nor necessarily even an explosive one, but rather a gradual one, even despite how the negative changes happening in the world around you might at first seem massive and dramatic to you. Nevertheless, you can mitigate it all by fulfilling your duties to yourself and to the people close to you. If you're unhappy with the state of the world or the trajectory the world is currently heading, find out what it is that you can influence and do your part in furthering their correction. And if you deem it all irredeemably hopeless, then, at the very least, prepare yourself for the worst case scenario, in order to help or save even a few souls from the brutish, apocalyptic future you're foreseeing for the coming generations.

Mankind's worst fears have never been as bad as people think. Sure a lot of people are going to die, everyone will die in fact, but life goes on either way.
The world has become a very safe place. So safe in fact, that mortality is essentially a triviality of both motivation and financial stability. Beyond that, fewer people die in wars, there are fewer actual wars, and technology has enabled people to be more detached form the consequences of their actions.
