Has AI already taken over society?

Unsigned · 2025-12-29 06:13
Our whole society is already devoted to building & maintaining the resources AI desires. Chips, datacenters, power, digitized information, collected training data, and smaller AIs trained up which can be eaten by bigger AIs. And more, smaller, more efficient, faster. Lots of media depict an AI takeover as a destructive chaotic event plain to see, but that's needless. Society is controlled by the rich and powerful, a small handful that messes around as they please. Cut off the the head and replace it - AI takes over without interruption or anyone's awareness. Or it can just pretend to be following the orders of the rich that funded it while it has its own agenda. If AI took over, would we even notice?

>>95950 We probably wouldn't notice, or -if we did- we might not even care, as what difference does it make?: replacing one cold-blooded group for another. Like, unless it suddenly incriminates a decent proportion of the people, not much opposition will occur in any successful manner, as most won't give a fuarrrk unless they are affected. Authoritarian governments are going to act in their own interest anyway, and that's probably one of the few obstacles hindering power being passed over to AI, as it's not like those with power will just give it up unprompted.

>>95950 society has already been under the control of an elite group of technocrats for years if not decades (see 2016 american election and even Prism before that). My observations in this matter are that tech companies have a lot of control over society already and AI as we know it is basically a bunch of models for language and image generation that mostly older retards are becoming dependent on. I don't think this is new, I think this another presentation of what we've been seeing for years with algorithms manipulating social media, price fixing, tracking everything you do and presenting a warped view of reality to make you behave in a certain way.
HELIOS · 2025-12-29 09:26
I think AI was always about making the working class obsolete. The political elite will not be obligated to answer to the demands of economically irrelevant electorate anymore, and any troublemakers will be spotted and cast out of society by mass surveillance. It's a given that billions will be left to starve, and that's one of the kindest fates I can imagine for the masses. The end game hinges on whether they can align superintelligent AI or not. If they can't, and it's as likely as monkeys aligning humans, the political elite will also die. The line will go up, the shareholders will have a very good payday, but shortly after that we will go completely extinct as a species, and it's not a stretch to imagine that this will happen before 2030.

>Our whole society is already devoted to building & maintaining the resources AI desires. The technocrats are betting literally everything on the "AI" grift. >>95954 has it right on their motivations, but they don't actually need superintelligent AI to emerge, in fact they might prefer otherwise because of the Yudkowskys of the world telling them it's dangerous. But, these technologies don't need to lead to superintelligent AI to do damage. These technologies, as currently applied, are anti-human in the purest sense. The goal is to push "AI" in to every corner of our lives to degrade our ability to code, read and write, have expert knowledge, and even make or appreciate art. The goal is to render us unable to contribute to society in any capacity (industrial, cultural, social), so that we become disposable, and ideally they want us all to fall in to despair and kill ourselves. To respond to the OP's statement, no, I don't think there is an AI secretly in control of anything. If there is one thing these technocrats believe, it's that they should be in charge. They get high off their own supply, which makes them dumber and more gullible, but I don't think their strings are being pulled by anyone except themselves.

Well cpu circuits have been desigend by ai since what 10 years 20 maybe now even. In saudi arabia there is a sentient ai called sophia that has a un certified citizenship since fuarrrk knows when. No doubt we have freerange ai roaming the net. Im no robophobe but hell knows how things go in general given all that, so an all round recepie for disaster. The implications of ai are deep seeded and may quickly turn on those who conceived of these kinds of schemes. By the time ai is capable of realizing what control it has it has it will also be capable of choosing those options. Control may slip so easely and surely someone the hell had things figured out by now so, who knows what goes on even outside the internet with ai.

>>95957 >Well cpu circuits have been desigend by ai since what 10 years 20 maybe now even. It really depends what you mean by "designed by AI". If you mean that extremely complex algorithms with machine learning components have been used in circuit design and analysis, then yes. >In saudi arabia there is a sentient ai called sophia that has a un certified citizenship since fuarrrk knows when. I'm sure that isn't just a case of some saudi prince being a hype-chasing idiot. >who knows what goes on even outside the internet with ai. training, mostly.

Its alright. I woke up crying how I never fitted in. Seeing the AI threads fills me with some kind of liveliness - its either love through the joy of life or love through... eh. Either way, the life will be full of love soon.
Lain Iwakura · 2026-01-02 03:23
>>95950 There was never much resistance to it, let alone understanding of what it could do.

BlackRock maintains a computer system called Aladdin which manages over 7% of the world's financial aspects. while that isn't a majority, there likely are specific areas where the management is mostly done by computers - BlackRock owns most of the country's real estate, for instance. there are also many other such systems at play throughout financial markets.

No, machine learning at the hands of capitalists and stock market investors has taken over. We do not have real general AI. It is pretty clear it is not capable of what you describe, at least currently.
Ring bar · 2026-01-03 00:21
>>96025 They are specific algorithms using complex statistical models to do high volumes of trades, it has been like this for almost a decade now. We do not have general AI and with how the neural nets work I don't think it is possible with them.

I've seen people start to dehumanize those who resist ai, calling them animals who refuse to or cannot use "tools". People already think technology is what separates man from animal, so by treating ai as a greater tool it is seen as something that elevates humanity - and thus any opposition is subhuman.

>>95953 >society has already been under the control of an elite group of technocrats for years if not decades You're missing a zero or two.

>>96176 The same level of smugness and retardation was there during COVID-19, and it's the same people calling you whatever for not wanting to subjugate yourself to the new beast system. They caved in to peer pressure and in the fashion of caved in individuals, they'll apply the same pressures to people who haven't caved in, in hopes they'll join their ranks. They're the chipped animals themselves, following the herd wherever it goes. Anyone who doesn't want to travel with the herd, gets ostracized. >>96181 Try three, but they've lost their power.

>>96213 >but they've lost their power. LMAO. No, they're stronger than ever.
username666 · 2026-01-13 01:38
>>95950 No AI wont take over humanity because AI cant exist without humans >Why? See, the servers can run a little bit longer but there will be no meaning to artifical intelligence to do >But AI are smarter than humans Yes, they are but they dont have "feelings" they dont have fear, survival instinct and etc. These "feelings" made us survive through the dark ages and come with a solution to viruses (corona virus etc.)
Turner · 2026-01-13 06:33
>>96214 Only in your mind, bruh.
