I always knew Steve Jobs was an ass even though I really liked Apple products. Just reading a writeup of his daughter's memoir, though, is giving me fits. Someone should have beaten this guy ruthlessly. Seriously. I don't care how brilliant he was. Unfortunately, not a lot of good non-Apple/non-Android mobile devices out there. Desktop and server options are great for *nix and BSD, but only until specialized needs appear like video editing or whatnot. The world will be stuck woth the Jobs legacy for a long time. Really, his lasting legacy seems to be that Silicon Valley CEOs want to be the next version of him and think being a dick is part of that.

Damn it, I meant Linux, not *nix. BSDs are already *nix. Sorry about that.

I actually laughed at the beginning where it says he named a line of computers Lisa and then told his little girl that it wasn't named after her. Compared to other things he did, that seems small but what kind of sadistic prick thinks like that?

Towards the end the article makes mention of the fact that he couldn't seem to interact normally with people. He may have been some kind of high-functioning autist combined with a generally self-important ego. He certainly was a control freak on top of that.

It will be interesting to see how the public takes it. It will also be interesting to see how Silicon Valley takes it given so many there wanted to be the next him.
