we're all living in amerika
Mentat · 2025-09-18 13:11
most of the global north is now the united states. sure, there were no tanks rolling in, but we've already been colonised, at the mental level we're all american. paradigm shifts happening in the us, for example the recent right-wing shift are reflected onto countries with completely different social backgrounds, causing confusion whether they're actually happening here or whether people are reacting to them as if they were (or both). people spend most of their time online, where the lingua franca is english, and as a result they've started thinking in english and even knowing english better than their mother tongue. yes, thinking in english. let that sink in. as a kid i've always wanted to visit the us but now i understand that i've never actually left.

we live in whatever took over america after 1971
language has nothing to do with it. knowing english as a foreigner is just a symbol of status. but when you go out in your poor destitute country and see people producing and consuming memetic "content" fashioned after what works in the epicenter of this technological disaster and letting these same memes take over their very being, way of living and way of thinking, yes, you begin to realize we all live in america. every piece of the human experience commercialized and the only meaning left is be or to be exploited and monopolized for the replication of capital.
1914. america becomes the world capital.

i'm curious what you mean by that, my best guess is techbro silicon valley rule which would be pretty accurate
>language has nothing to do with it. knowing english as a foreigner is just a symbol of status
and yet all the pop stars are starting to sing in english. also with the availability of the internet children are becoming bilingual and that's not a new thing either, hell it's basically what happened to me
Nell · 2025-09-18 14:54
>english
it's the international language. You sing in English because you want to get big outside your home country. Before English it was French. Just like before the USD it was the GBP.
Colonial superpowers have lots of indirect sway over the world, who fuarrrking knew.

If Germany were more like America, they would have free political speech and be able to speak out again mass importing of orcs and goblins from the Middle East and Africa. They would also be able to question the biggest hyperbole of the 20th Century instead of getting punished by Allied-installed laws.
Same goes for the United Kingdom especially since there would be less "ID pushing" for various websites and online services.
The talk of Coca-Cola and Hollywood movies are superficial since ZOGs do not care what type of food, beverage, or entertainment you prefer. As long as you comply with their basic "shut the fuarrrk up and just let us mass import more orcs" policies, they are content. Focus on free political speech and immigration and the rest will follow.

both profoundly american responses. you're either yanks or culturally assimilated beyond repair. fuarrrk my retarded yuropean life
Drifter · 2025-09-21 12:35
I second this, people here in Eastern Europe often use English to properly describe certain things, I mostly abstain from it but I sometimes just can't find the right words in Romanian, my mother who was a professor of my mother tongue often uses English words and finds it meticulous to translate them despite her advanced vocabulary. I don't really talk in my first language since I live a fairly solitary life and I've noticed that I sometimes can't properly voice my thoughts in Romanian even if I take a while to try and build up the sentence, it's a burden that I should probably work on sooner or later.

From eastern europe and i used to think more in english than my native language involuntarily. Have to keep it in check constantly. This is due to 1 the wired being almost exclusively in english 2 sometimes thinking is painful and thinking in another language somehow allows to distance from emotions. The solution to this is to be more around people and internet spaces in your native language and your mind naturally switches back as it is more resource intensive to switch from receiving one language to thinking in another.
Anonymous · 2025-09-21 14:05
American here. When talking in foreign languages I also tend to 'think' in them to the extent I think verbally. Trying to organize your thoughts in one language and then express them in another strikes me as a totally silly exercise, to be avoided if at all possible.

>no tanks rolling in
I'm sorry, what ? You realize we conquered half of europe rolling tanks through the lot of it. The other half was conquered by our allies the soviets. And there were American tanks (and planes and rations and all sorts of other things, the Roosevelt government was generous to the point of treason) on both European fronts!
melorin · 2025-09-22 07:16

i mean sure but, as somebody from the "other half", my country was americanised mostly by the net, all without the american govt having any direct influence over our culture

russia and the russosphere have a pretty sizeable internet presence with pretty exclusive places like vk plus the government is against western influence for better or worse
i think that a chinese or even a japanese person also couldn't relate

Welcome to burgerreich. To be honest, it is all just the consequence of neoliberalism and imperialism. The US plundered the world and continues to do so still.
And let us remind ourselves that the US was not anything special, it was a British colony that forced itself onto the land with colonialism. In the same way the US forced itself with imperialism. It's just the game changed a slight bit.
Basically it is all imperialism blah blah blah, I would heavily recommend reading lenin and his "Imperialism the greatest stage of capitalism".

Many countries declared Multipolarism & Multi-polarity of the world. Lead by China, which is leading contry by nominal GDP (PPP adjusted).
Mandarin is first in amount of L1 speakers, and second in L1+L2 by total amount of speakers.

Why Putin didn't occupied Suwalki when Baltics where not in Nato? Or not vetoed/protested when East joined NATO.

Why he waited for McDonalds renamification?
Or maybe Russian Government fights Evil West by supporting home grown chip manufacture and high tech, with market cometitive salaries that outcompete USA? Like China does btw.
I don't see high speed railway connecting Russia with their closest ally & friend India.

I can't see how they will ever convince non native speakers to learn Chinese characters when their own pupils struggle all the way into high school learning all those logographs. They are not exporting their media in international markets so there is no natural pathway for passive language absorption unless you go out of your way to learn Chinese for some reason. There is no chance Mandarin ever catches on unless they push pinyin in both Mainland and overseas. At this point they totally could do this but choose not to.

yeah, I forgot about Honkai Star Rail, it's absolutelly stunning, amazing & beautiful, I need to check it out later!
Nezha is animation about Chinese Gods.
I see websites that been focused on japanese anime/manga 10 years ago, now switching to showcase chinese animations & comics (very pretty close to anime & manga grafics)
Also many beautiful traditonal historical and fantasy chinese movies seen recently on TV, much better than holywood slop.

for Gen-Z, or 19yo gamer, who mindlessly scrolling Android playstore on Xiaomi/Huawei/ZTE for some cute asian 2d roguelike gacha, there won't be difference between translated product of CN or KR or JP gamedev studio.
