Dujour · 2018-08-11 20:56

I try to just be, personally. I recently picked up the book titled "How to Die", which is translated from a discourse by the ancient greek philosopher Seneca. I haven't read it yet, but it seems like a treatise on various ways to accept mortality so that one can let go of that fear and live a fuller life.
I'm also reading a book on Stoicism which has a lot to say about finding and letting go of the unimportant things in life and not be too aggravated by the outside world.
In general these philosophies seem to be of the opinion that there's no overall purpose to life and that many things in it are difficult, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't live it anyway.

> How did you come upon it?
How did I lose those things might be a better question.
HELIOS · 2018-08-11 22:16
>What drives you Lain?
Knowing that our current so called reality is some kind of illusion and that my true self lies out there somewhere to be found.
I rest my power on the idea that this world is but a shadow if what really is and that one day i will see it.
I believe that is our ultimate purpose and we are in some way guided to it and if im wrong then what difference does it make anyhow.
>What gives you purpose?
The desire to one day break trough reality and find what lies beyond and be able to shape things as i chose to.
Having found out the things i did, i concluded this cannot be all accidents, i believe that one day i will be where i need to be.
> How did you come upon it?
It came to me, i didnt chose to become who i am, but i now know i want to be me and i accepted that i am made for all this.

What can I do to have the chance to experience something similar? I feel like I'm not supposed to be where I am, and I'm tired of going along pretending that it's okay.

>My Drive
Hunger, absolute hunger. I want to consume all that is, bring it into myself to make it my own.
>My Purpose
To become all in all, and all in one, be the only and the every, what is, what was and what will be, to be more than anything and everything, and to be nothing all at once. I give myself purpose, but the truth of the matter transcends language.
>How I came upon it
Time, effort, thought, action, pursuit of hunger to satisfy hunger, the filling of the void with yet more void, the collapse of internal structure into a singularity drawing everything it encounters into its crushing depths.
My journey will not be yours, but perhaps you can plumb your own depths and therein find purpose.

Keep surviving and fighting trough any soykaf that life gives you.
Keep your mind awake and question everything to the extreme.
Answers will come to you when you are ready to understand their significance.
One will lead to another if you can manage not to walk in circles in this maze of life.
Find out who and what you really and learn to listen to your true instinct then you will be able to see trough reality without having emotions cloud your judgement.

>What drives you Lain?
My desire to get better at brewing soykaf
>What gives you purpose?
brewing soykaf and maybe my waifu
>How did you come upon it?
I was a hopeless soul before I stumbled across a place called /g/entoo I soon grew out of that place and became a professional nonfat-soykaf drinker/raider life is pretty fun since then

I wish that I could change the world in a way that will make it come closer to the aesthetic that I enjoy. This is kind of how I think most people structure their life goals. You want the world as you experience it to match with your mental aesthetic, and you construct a logical framework or intuitive framework for why your aesthetic is actually best.

Was blue the only colour left or does it mean something?

It is meant to symbolize the Blue Screen of Death, the future final voyage and leading cause of death among transhumanist cyborgs.

my goal in life is to live a comfortable and simple lifestyle.
with my skillset though its a bit more difficult to achieve that since work isnt easy to come by but getting to set my own hours is better than 9-5 daily grind.
i hope i can live in a decked out van/bus and make bank doing illustration one day.

Yeah well when I was a kid the screen of death was this colour. I want to make an animated flag out of the stuff the pages of the primer from The Diamond Age were made of. One corner black, one corner SNOW CRASH.

If i had a cyberbrain id rather it soykaf itself and i experience an eternal hallucination in that moment.
Either way death is the ultimate trip i think, or hope so.

Masami Eiri · 2018-08-14 07:22

I want to live in the country and be mostly self-sufficient.
I want to become wise.
I want to spread love and kindness.
Crash Override · 2018-08-14 09:59
I want to find love while I'm still young. I want to build my own house and become self-reliant. But most of all I want to further my relationship with God.

Making "art" (I have leagues to go) is one thing that when im absolutely lost and beside myself gives me a purpose in that moment, and that moment is sometimes all one needs.
Friends. I never had many, except as a young child. Recently ive been a lot more comfortable being me and have pursued friendships that gave me insight I had been missing my entire highschool and middle school life that I spent almost entirely alone. So not just friends I have, but friends to be made and friends who I parted with and id like to see again. And also to be an inspiration and someone approachable to those who feel all alone. Then also to protect and provide for friends I have when they are in need.
Id also like to prove to myself that I can accomplish anything I want. And to get rid of that mentality that sees myself as a loser internet kid going nowhere. And tying back to the inspiration thing be someone others who grew up like I did can look at, relate to, and feel assured.
A hope that I could change the world. I don't know if I can, just the hope that I could. I wouldnt say im liberal but im highly anti-racism which I know will set some people off here with assumptions. More specifically though combatting oppression targeted at african americans, of which many of ny friends are. Nothing fills me with rage more than seeing some racist remark or dissmisal of their being, because I think of my friends and the insight, wisdom, and courage ive gotten from them. This is how I approach any political topic these days, I think of myself and those around me, I dont feel its possible to think of all of society as if we could we would all reach consensus.
These are what keep me alive. Even you guys collectively sometimes I feel a need to protect or fight for. Because I see peoples troubles and problems here, and I see many intelligent people that have have had potential and growths stolen from them, and may even be only known to the people who post here. Its not fair.

Beautiful, just beautiful. Same here lainon. I didn't think that I would see someone post something like this.
Although, my drive, with hunger, is also accompanied with rage and disgust.
I'll drink to your name!

>What drives you Lain?
Survive with teeth and claw.
>What gives you purpose?
To master the skills I want, to fight for my ideal life style one day, living alone on the countryside farming, hunting and living mostly off the land.
>How did you come upon it?
Not sure, it just feel so natural for me, might be going back to my ancestral roots maybe, or denying the actual state of society.

What's the name of the book on Stoicism? It caught my interest.
