getting a weird pervasive feeling the internet in the way we know it is going to be gone soon. the elites in the government are trying to get rid of anonymity, payment processors are probably going to trample free speech soon enough, and ive had that "things are ending soon" feel in my head for about the past year whenever i log on anywhere. in all honesty, the whole world feels devoid of its spark and zest, things feel like theyre wrapping up. its like i came near the tail end of the party, when everyone left or passed out drunk, and im here sitting on the couch with my own thoughts. if the internet ends i dont even know what ill do with myself, but everything feels like were going in the wrong direction.

We'll see what happens. Idk for sure if they're actually rolling out internet ID and AI robocops that enforce "the narrative" and "government acceptable speech" now - or if they're just threatening to as a psyop. You are right though, everything is going in the wrong direction, and it's on purpose. The earth right now is the devil's playground, they fulfill their perverse lusts and twist everything, they promise everything and deliver nothing - deceiving everyone. Spirit can only be fought with spirit, only when Jesus returns with a great earthquake will anything truly change. Until then its only false hope and endless harassment.

>>92626 I lately figured the single most important information hub on Earth is, beside Wikipedia, imageboard archives. I hope I am not running afoul of some internecine mod rule; but it really seems true. Archives yield heterodox keywords, as Wikipedia yields orthodox ones. Every person, no matter how brilliant, needs a notebook. In case of Internet shutdown, orientation may still be regained socially, by asking "have you heard of ... ?". But you need to know what you don't know. Imageboards have the highest yield of things I do not know of x things I am not likely to learn of. There are, indeed, scenarios to protect against. Lately, I discussed with ai the scenarios of Faraday rooms, online-only-bootable computers, and destruction of digital archives via loss of manufacture chains for replication media. But I need to know what to discuss in the first place.
Marly Krushkhova · 2025-08-05 23:37
>>92632 In other words, techniques for deriving metadata from online sets. One can use ai or statistics or whatever to design an algoritm that will take your last few couple xillion of cpu/gpu cycles you have access to, to parse your couple of terabytes or text data you have gotten, to triage it into a boostrap for a crisis-triggered medium-shift from digital back to paper. In short, an optimized pathway. Using topics such as indexing, relevance-for-various-situations, regeneration from parts when the whole is lost. I'd need to build a digital and transdigital navigation framework for my data. Sure it's not necessary. But we are, indeed, assuming internet and privacy will be around forever.

I have the same feeling that things are ending, but not because the elites are going to crack down on the internet. The internet is pretty much dead and has been on life support for a while now. It was already ailing when normal users were let onto it, but now internet commenters are majority bots. Digital ID isn't really necessary anyway because of that; rather than directly censoring people, the elites can just drown dissenting views in a flood of AI-created garbage. But the real reason things are ending is because World War 3 is about to pop off and most of the planet's population will be killed. If you ask me, we should have gotten it over with a long time ago so that we might have had a chance to rebuild a more sustainable society before global warming got too severe.

Same Op. Same feeling. It might be normal to just stay offline and have whatever documents on some debian os and use whatever safer webbrowser there is at the time (which i dont know yet might not exist yet) Basically in this time what you have download what you need. Try to learn what you can on Linux (probably debian is best bet) gateways and privacy and how to search information better. Think about it. Make a list. Archive whatever. Save it on some harddrive or usb. Get some offline wiki. Whatever. >>94056 GNU/Linux distributions are a matter of preferences so OP might've exaggerated by saying that "debian is probably the best" However, for me, Debian is just a swiss army knife, if you're not too good at GNU/Linux then you can easily set up Debian with a friendly desktop environment, download the packages that you need with the help of a few web searches and move on with your day, but Debian also offers net installs which give you quite a lot of freedom, it may not reach "Gentoo freedom" but it's good enough for most people. The stability is also a bonus, I used to daily drive Gentoo for a while and found it quite enjoyable but messing around with circular dependencies, kernel configs and/or patches and USE flags became very tiring after a while. The main seller for Debian, in my perspective at least, is how easy it is to get a system full of free software. Debian might follow the DFSG instead of the FSDG but as long as you're not a strict terminology freak then either of those are good enough if you care about free software, I know very well that the main branch is only made up of free software, including dependencies, and that's very relaxing for someone like me. The only problem is that even the free software that's hosted in main might package so-called free software that has a few blobs, for example, qtwebengine depends on Chromium and Chromium does have some proprietary codecs, fully FSDG-complaint distributions exclude entire packages but none of them are maintained even nearly as good as Debian, hence I'll stick with it. Although not recommended, the people are also free to download proprietary software by enabling the non-free branches of Debian. It's overall a matter of preference, but I'm sure that at least 90% of users will be more than happy with pure Debian (I find the Debian-based distributions useless because most of them are just a few packages and that's it), the best thing about GNU/Linux and free software in general is that people have a choice in this so people are free to pick any other distribution that they'd like, but Debian is just great.

I don't have 1-2 full days every week just to update my puter. And this is not Gentoo's fault, it's a change in the whole industry, almost every software out there releases updates every week. This is not a problem on binary distros but is a problem on source based distros. Also, there is gentoo-binary, probably released for this reason, but they compile packages with the most popular options, so i can't leave out dependencies and (anti)functions that i would like to and this would be one of the main reasons of compiling things, and the main use case of USE flags, etc, so debian or arch based distros are a better option nowadays unless you sit on some brand new high power machine that can compile 100s of megabytes of code in less than an hour. It was very nice 10 years ago and i loved gentoo.

>>94097 Many thanks for the elaborate answer anon I'm going to start a small home server in a mini PC with 8GB and an Intel Celeron N5095, would you recommend Debian in this case? using it for a media server, photos gallery, pi hole, nothing too crazy
Dujour · 2025-10-14 17:49
>>94165 NTA, but some lessons I learned the hard way: you could honestly run just about any distro you want, but debian is a pretty solid choice for a home server I'd also recommend installing Cockpit especially if you're a noob, makes it real easy to manage everything also if you plan to run debian on bare metal get used to containerizing and reverse proxying all of your services (except maybe pihole if you want to use it for DHCP) podman is the new way to do things, but docker is still fine especially if you're just learning if you'd rather run stuff in VMs like an old man use Proxmox instead (it's basically a debian-based hypervisor), but for a low spec machine containers are way better and much more modern, you might even pick up some industry skills depending on how autistic you get for the actual services, jellyfin is my go-to for TV shows and movies, navidrome for music, calibre-web (not standard calibre, it's basically useless on a server) for books there are other options if you want to explore, but avoid plex like the plague might also look into *arr stack for managing your library Immich for a "wedding photos" type of gallery, suzurubooru if you want a nice simple/easy to set up private booru if you're feeling frisky, try setting up Vaultwarden or Nextcloud get used to running things behind a reverse proxy as well, nginx proxy manager is probably the easiest to use (has a nice convenient web interface), but caddy will give you more flexibility if you're up for configuring it the old fashioned way use pihole for domains, set up all your various services as a CNAME pointing to your server then let the reverse proxy route all the inbound connections on port 80 to the right spot internally lets you keep the firewall plugged more tightly as well as being more convenient, only need to leave port 80, 443 and 9090 TCP, 53 UDP open awesome-selfhosted on github has plenty of recommendations if you want to add more stuff, most things on there are designed to be run in a container, more often than not you'll see them with their own compose file which makes it a cinch to spin up for hardware, look for a refurbished optiplex or thinkcentre, you can get them in micro form factor (roughly 4x the size of a raspberry pi), most will come with something like an i5-6600t and 8-16GB of DDR4 which can be easily upgraded if you need more memory (which you probably won't unless you go crazy with ZFS or something) depending on where you live, it'll run you around $100 for a perfectly decent little box that will work forever BUT there's a good chance they'll ship it with a trash SSD that will randomly soykaf the bed on you, so it's worth picking up something like a 256GB Crucial m.2 drive to run the system on, and set up a cronjob to rsync your compose files and config directories to reliable storage at least once a week the beauty of containers is that there's usually no need to back up the whole system, if you have a catastrophic failure you just install a fresh OS, mount your storage, copy your .ymls over and podman compose up -d a few times for storage, grab a multi-drive external SATA bay, don't bother with hardware RAID (it's pretty useless these days), set up 2 same-size HDDs in btrfs RAID 1 and expand later if you need it refurbished enterprise drives (make sure they're SATA and not SAS, unless you have a SAS backplane) can get you a sizable amount of storage for cheap, or reuse whatever you have lying around just make sure it's mirrored so a headcrash doesn't make you to jump off a balcony

Look. I have the feeling just helping a bloke out to "not starve" sometimes traps people like myself in a vicious loop of never trying to find a job to "unleash hidden talent". I unironically starting to believe now unlocking a hidden talent may be as important as helping to not starve. On a graph which takes thousands of people into account, not the person vs person kind of graph, though. The Platform does NOT help people with that to the point just getting a job turned out to be my talent. Anyway, gotta go - work's waiting!

>>92626 Yo my 2 cents on this is that I too have have the same feeling like I did before covid happened. The Iran war doesn't help and AIPAC and Palantir wh*res dont help. I think we will witness the actual Y2K b**mers prepped for in 2000. Only this time it will be a "cyber pandemic" where large parts of the internet will expereince outages and cyber attacks but the key is they need the Digital ID at the OS level to be global before this happens. Once they get the control grid then they will stage a cyber pandemic.

>>98786 You know, trying going full Bartmoss against the Old Net actually means screwing up the fragile workflows of two-bit managers who manage their soy sauce while sealing, shipping, delivering various sensitive parts to factories, compounds, mills etc. You wouldn't want to screw up a dozen of supply chains of one corporation, let alone some supply chains of a dozen of corporations with such a "cyber pandemic". You would THINK some big names wouldn't notice a thing with their cool cybersecurity systems. Well, THEIR mainframes would not, but some niche drill bits, chips, lubes made by small companies that are not "too big too fall" can cause a domino.

i'm old enough to remember the pre-internet era and the transition to the internet era, and to any younger people here let me assure you that that whole narrative you always hear from conservative retards of "oh these kids don't want to go outside or be in the real world, they just want to be on their computers or their phones all day" is total bullshit. because i remember being a teenager in the 2000s era of the internet, trying to hang out with my circle of dorky IRL friends and do stuff in the real world and always getting shut down at every turn, either by the cops or by some busynosed old karen who calls the cops. skateboard in some parking lot, cops shut it down. go to a party at some kid's parents house, cops shut it down. go see a friend's band play a show somewhere, cops shut it down. that's what i remember happening when my generation tried to go outside and be in the real world, they would just get the hammer brought down on them until they either broke and conformed to conservative expectations or they got chewed up by the system and spent the rest of their lives in and out of jail or they killed themselves. and it's even worse now, i'm not the least bit surprised that younger generations would become recluses and spend all their time on the internet, because there's nowhere else to go, there is no IRL anymore, the world outside your home is just a place to work or a place to consume, that's it. it's just a big authoritarian police state shopping mall, and now the internet is turning into that too.

>>100062 Plus they vaxxed children even more after computers and the internet were taking off. Heaps of children physically couldn't deal with socialization and the outside world so of course they latched onto the only things they could have. The vampires in charge deliberately coerce the behaviors of the population and then blame them for their behaviors to obscure their own involvement.
Batou · 2026-06-30 06:23
>>100064 I've found autists are the most provaxx out there. Most of us cannot accept that we're damaged and a certain narrowing and contrivance of behavior was created deliberately. Coerced into being. They tell themselves they were born that way and autism is my superpower.
Otto Normalverbraucher · 2026-06-30 06:27
>>100065 probably because it takes a special amount of retardation to believe that vaccines cause something that is known to be hereditary (let alone poorly defined and malleable to the needs of the outstanding cultural hegemon)

>>100066 There's one now. I think there is a difference between cut and uncut autists. I think once they're circucmised they develop more normal person-like dissociative and conformity behaviors.
Ein · 2026-06-30 06:37
>>100066 >>100067 It may also just be the more mundane, ie use of prescription drugs in development, level of coddling and temperment in responding to threat, fluoridation, breast feeding, and so on. There's a big difference between a circumcised, drugged, fluoridated, and bottlefed autist and a different type. It's really all about the trauma and soothing cycle. One hand wounds and the other soothes, and those witha certain temperment are easily raped into submission this way by the age of 7. Gotta hurt em and support em at the same time, stop immediately at 5 when more durable memories start forming. That's how you make the right sort of slave that believes what they're told and also believes it's capable of criticial thinking so it will obey thinking it's following its own thoughts.
藤原純一 · 2026-06-30 13:49
>>100064 that's retarded and i'm not even going to entertain your dumb antivax nonsense. autism has nothing to do with it anyway, i am autistic and most of my aforementioned dorky IRL friends were autistic or neurodivergent in some way as well. being neurodivergent doesn't mean you can't socialize or make friends, it just means you tend to socialize and befriend other neurodivergent people and there's lots of them and always have been. and it's not just autists who are reclusive nowadays, and it's not just kids either, it's everyone. the conservative old people who complain about kids being on their phones all day are isolated watching fox news or scrolling facebook all day, the neurotypical younger people are isolated engaging in parasocial interactions like posting endless pictures of themselves on instagram or going the club to blow all their money on overpriced drinks and use other people for validation. there are no third places anymore, there's no place for human beings to actually connect with one another on any meaningful level, there is just the workplace and a few designated zones for legally-sanctioned heavily-supervised hyper-monetized self-centered excess. like with everything wrong with our society, the dominant narrative is that it's individual people's fault that things are this way and people are so disconnected, that human brains have somehow changed the way they work in recent years, but that's not how biology works, organisms don't change in a matter of decades, they change over the course of thousands of years. it's our society that has changed, it's the distribution of wealth and power that has changed, our society has become one gigantic work colony built and maintained by massively concentrated corporate power and state power to ensure that the common masses do not connect with each other and form any kind of collective solidarity and they only act as discrete obedient workers and consumers, everyone is like slot cars on a track who can only move in a very strictly pre-determined way and can never form their own new paths.
Anamika · 2026-06-30 13:59
>>100069 >it's the distribution of wealth and power that has changed, our society has become one gigantic work colony built and maintained by massively concentrated corporate power and state power to ensure Blah blah blah. I stopped skimming here. If you can't connect neo-feudalism with deliberately maiming and poisoning a modern population, no one can help you. The reality is you're quite neurotypical, in that you're weak and can't think outside of yourself. You lack the capacity to understand full spectrum dominance and totalitiarian psychology because you're partially mind-blind, your shoddy reasoning then follows it up by assuming everything is fine except your special inetrests. People like me who are similarly autistic watch, sigh, shake our heads and move on. It's both pathetic and disgusting. > i am autistic and most of my aforementioned dorky IRL friends were autistic or neurodivergent in some way as well. being neurodivergent doesn't mean you can't socialize or make friends, You are not normal and made friends with other fringe or similarly hobbled people. Tale as old as time. What's your fuarrrkin' point kid?

I think it's always important to go outside and meet people. Even if it distracts you in the long run, a life well lived is a live worth living. If you're content or happy alone, that's great, but I'm certain that at some point everybody longs for company and stories to remember. I almost always subordinate my needs in order to be there for people, which is worrying, but when I see people who stand their ground to death, for the smallest things, then it fills me with great joy of what kind of person I have become now.
EmperorThor · 2026-07-31 03:26
If anything its the other way around. People older than us are aging and soon will have no choice but to hand over the world and society to us, whether the like it or not. We will still take over even if they resist. It will be futile for them to try to stop us.. Its not a question of 'if' but 'when' that will happen. It might be tomorrow or in a few years, but its an inevitable outcome. After that it will be up to us to decide what will happen not just with internet but with everything really.
