memes

Memes are a powerful thing, but we often treat them as funny jokes only, but they are any idea or thought or concept etc. that spreads, that survives, a lifeform or virus. We all know this. But we don't take it seriously. The things we communicate to others effects us and vis versa. If the Idea of depression is talked about often surely it will make you depressed, if people talk about having no motivation, surely you'll be inflicted with no motivation soon enough. Anxiety spreads, Fear spreads, Emotions spread. It's important who you surround yourself with, it's important what you communicate. Spread good vibes, and they will survive and make their way back to you. Much more important than bad vibes.

>>92166 As a teenager, I suddenly noticed how many memes promoted certain corporations or media, and as I was spending much time lurking r9k, I saw how people used memes there to reinforce their insular ideas. I begun writing a book of my thoughts on memes, starting with a history of memes so I could trace where subversion may have occurred. I never finished this project as I was a dumb 15 year old, but the key thing was it made me think deeply about memes and their place in people's lives, something most people would never dare to because they just think they're not that deep. But how can anything so omnipresent be so insignificant? Funnily enough, you don't hear much about depression anymore. It's not in vogue. People these days want to have autism. I've stayed away from them for the last five years, so I have no clue what it's like now. I can only imagine powerful groups have refined their approach.

>>92179 you should continue the book. never has there been a better time to discuss memetics, their warfare and propaganda. McLuhan knew that WW3 would be a p2p infowar where all are combatants and civilians. converting this into a meme in of itself is arguably the most important thing those who understand it can do

You can argue that memetics aligns with political weaponization, yes. I am an oldschooler who sticks to the original sense of "meme" and prefers to say "funny pictures"; but inherently parametrized nature of all memetic entities (just as with genetic ones), aligns with experimenting with maximizing efficiency of some of the parameters. Good for society as a whole, in my book; there is no analysis without parametrization. The more socially targeted a parameter, the easier it is to spot it.

>>92167 Sins are adaptations. All classical sins are good. Disattachment is tautological, unfalsifiable, and meaningless ("you should only attach to things as far as it is good for you"). At least Christianity makes A stance, even if it is the incorrect one. It says the sins are bad. Which is false, but at least it's not not-even-wrong.

I don't think it works exactly like that but people can start overly assuming something is true by sheer repetition leading to familiarity. Ironically people who are prone to contrarianism like a certain very mainstream imageboard will be easily manipulated to believe something if they think it is counter to the normal take most of society has but not actually evaluate it in itself or the views others have in themselves.

>>92344 Contrarianism is reproduction, increasing memetic = cognitive diversity and testing fitness. Agreeing is inbreeding. Launching an outlandish hypothesis is being fertile and seeing what sticks.

>>92345 (Funnily enough, Christianity has been contrarian with respect to its "antievolutionary" morality, as per >>92343. Likewise, altruism itself is "contrarian" to competitive resource-egoism. It may be difficult to tell whether any one instance of appeal of contrarianism stems from the proven merit of the particular instance, or the proven (on the different scale) appeal of contrariness itself. Evolution itself "knows" it is good to experiment.)

>>92333 For a few reasons I don't feel encouraged to continue this book. - The target audience (people who look at memes all day) would not read it. It would be read mostly by people who already agree with me, if it were to be read at all. In the impossible circumstance it became 'popular', it would just become fuel for video essayist morons. - However, nobody would take it seriously unless I slavishly fill it with references to psychological 'studies'. - I'm working on a novel at the moment, which in it's own right I am using to approach certain important ideas. - I'm totally ignorant of how memes changed in the last five years. As in, totally sealed off. I have no honest clue.

>>92343 You wouldnt need to be told to avoid something if you didn't find it somewhat attractive. A lot of the big sins are arguably 'dont defect in the prisoners dilemma'. No false witness, no coveting other mens wives, love your neighbor, these are rules that hurt you in an alien, hostile, community. But among your a virtuous and aligned people they are essential to group advancement.

Memes are not viral, they clearly are symbiotes. Thank you lovely memes but where do you come from? >i don't know i was born right here just now >thank you for decrypting us >you're the one who should know I can't see you memes. I only see letters. >lets make him know let's make him know >can we build like a lens so he can see us? >there's not a lot of material to go off of What about a mirror? I'll look into my own eyes so be sure to gesture back. >awesome okay memes take shape! >don't overdo it >don't forget to spread us too Will you leave me? >nah we replicate easy >i'm staying, a nice meme host like that >local database says there are good workshops on lainchan Good luck brave memes.
