Mental Health Thread

Mental health thread (diagnosis, treatment/medication, whatever you want to say) Here is me: >Major depressive, general anxiety, tourette syndrome, conduct disorder, and ADHD >Geodon 80mg and Tenex 2mg (my doctor started me on tenex before trying a stimulant because of my tourettes) was on lexapro 20mg, zoloft 50mg and abilify 15mg >How the fuarrrk do you even control an impulse??
yours truly · 2018-07-26 05:19
Major depression, bipolar depression, generalised anxiety. They refuse to diagnose my ADHD but I swear I must have it. 50mg sertraline, 25mg lamotrigine.
Project 2501 · 2018-07-26 05:20
My Head: Before: >Periodically depressed, general anxiety, ADHD Then: >600mg adrafinil (periodically), 1200 mg piracetam, 600mg caffiene, 300mg l-theanine (periodically) >not depressed, way less anxious, focused. Pretty awesome soykaf actually
Lain Iwakura · 2018-07-26 05:51
>The usual, Dysthymia(?), problems feeling emotions, visual snow, tinnitus, forgetting words, congenital brain problems >Tried a lot of soykaf for the first one since the others aren't treatable, nothing really worked, so either I don't really have real depression or it's drug resistant. Want to try Ketamine since there's some buzz about that being a wunderdrug but the costs are out of pocket so I can't afford it. >If that doesn't work, is recreational drug abuse a good alternative, or should I just an hero?should

I hereby diagnose everyone on any chan with Oppositional Defiant Disorder: > Oppositional defiant disorder (ODD)[1] is defined by the DSM-5 as "a pattern of angry/irritable mood, argumentative/defiant behavior, or vindictiveness" in children and adolescents.[2] Unlike children with conduct disorder (CD), children with oppositional defiant disorder are not aggressive towards people or animals, do not destroy property, and do not show a pattern of theft or deceit.[3] must exhibit four out of the eight signs and symptoms to meet the diagnostic threshold for oppositional defiant disorder.[4] These symptoms include: > (1) Often loses temper > (2) Is often touchy or easily annoyed > (3) Is often angry and resentful > (4) Often argues with authority figures or for children and adolescents, with adults > (5) Often actively defies or refuses to comply with requests from authority figures or with rules > (6) Often deliberately annoys others > (7) Often blames others for his or her mistakes or misbehavior > (8) Has been spiteful or vindictive at least twice within the past 6 months.[5][6] Sound like anyone you know: Been annoyed by trolls, have annoyed others via trolling, said 2 spiteful things in last 6 months, refuses to comply with authority figures. That's right! You're O.D.D. (odd? Wait, what if the DSM5 is trolling us?!) Good news! There's no such thing as "neurotypical" anymore! Basically ALL people have had a disorder called ODD. It's not just called being a "teenager", and no, there's no physiological science been done to find a cause, nor medical reason to call it a "disorder". It's just a bunch of behaviors governments don't like, which we can now diagnose and medicate thanks to the DSM5. What if it's just hormones causing the social behaviors to emerge so that the individual strikes out on their own when they're sexually maturing? Perhaps teens being suppressed by societally enforced prolonged childhood causes frustration during sexual maturation? What if "teen angst", and lashing out at authorities perceived to be limiting an individual's agency is normal and observed in the animal kingdom as well? Could this be a natural part of "coming of age"? Nope it's a mental disorder to be medicated. In other news, the National Institute of Mental Health is distancing itself from the so-called "Bible of Psychiatry", the DSM5, claiming that "patients deserve better". At issue is the rampant selection bias applied to arrive at DSM5 "disorders". http://www.sciencemag.org/news/2013/05/nimh-wont-follow-psychiatry-bible-anymore > DSM5: Oh look here's a bunch of behaviors that are similar, let's group them into a disorder. Neuroscience has found little to no common cause for the majority of DSM5 diagnoses. Without a common cause the diagnoses don't indicate a cure, and are thus mostly useless to inform treatment avenues. Hmm, my DSM5 diagnosis stands. Channers are all afflicted with O.D.D., however, you might want to take what the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Health says with a grain of salt as a placebo, especially if they recommend you put money in BigPharma's pocket. "WIFI Allergy" is often an equally descriptive diagnosis for any mental health label the DSM creates.
Roger Pollack · 2018-07-27 08:49
>>8913 You're missing the point by being hung up on my FLOSS comment, and that's somewhat my fault. When it comes to my mental health and developing as a man, I'd rather not talk to a channer anymore, not that it matters since people don't really seem to want to make friends here anyway. Imageboard culture just doesn't work for a "therapy" session, plus imageboards are too easy to be infected by trolls and regular users are just damn rude (sometimes). As far as the FLOSS comment, I'm trying to maybe make a small community for my specific issues but fuarrrk trying to convert people to whatever meme communication platform unless those people really don't mind. If the person feels like trash, I'm not going to try to talk FLOSS with them.

I don't really believe in self-diagnosing. And yes, overall, I do have a good life. I have a nice house, a decent job, and an okay relationship with most of my that I live with. I just have issues connecting with women and some childhood bullying issues.

H.R. Giger · 2018-07-28 18:20
So, this opinion might not make a lot of you feel super good, and I'm not trying to be a dick. Just putting that out there before I get started. So, I have had the worst symptoms of ADHD any doctor has seen (at least all the doctors I've gone to), I also have general anxiety (diagnosed) and strong depression as a result of basically not being able to follow a sentence through to the end and missing half of what people are trying to say. I only bring that up to qualify myself for the statement I'm going to make. Stop focusing on your mental health problems. It becomes far to easy to blame your shortcomings on them. Once you shift that focus (inb4 I have no focus lul) on to tracking your progress and continually working towards something, the mental health problems will look less serious. AND! Lets not forget the biggest thing. STOP WATCHING CARTOONS SO MUCH. You feel bad cuz your not doing anything. And its okay. You just gotta start doing something other than sitting there watching anime. >It's the only thing that makes me happy I know that feel lain. the struggle to stop watching anime is real. but when you stop, and can just watch it every once in a while, your mental health will get much better. promise.
Vasya Pupkin · 2018-07-28 21:04
>>8937 Overall, I feel this is solid advice. I especially agree with the anime point, mental illness or not. But I would put a massive asterisk on this and say, at least watch good anime. Generic over sexualized waifu bait shows are bad for your health, since your waifu is not real and real people don't act like that. Although over the top comedy like Nichijou is good as is non sexualized shows like Ika Masume. Just... dump your waifu...
Marly Krushkhova · 2018-07-28 21:27
>>8937 I never know how to reply to "advice" like this. When I explain all the things I spent my youth and early adulthood doing despite still ending up the mess I am now, I get accused of inventing a life story (I think the internet calls it LARPing now or something). It's unfathomable to some that anyone could spend their life being physically and socially active only to be knocked on their ass later by symptoms that grew to unmanageable proportions. The medical system is too dysfunctional around here to be of any use and I hardly ever watch cartoons.
Demeere · 2018-07-28 21:35
>>8940 Depends on the person. There seems to be a sizable amount of people here who are at the very worst slackers with weak social skills who spend more time on imageboards and anime but otherwise have an okay life. I agree with the advice because when it comes down to it, that's basically what I am and what I assume most people on here are. Maybe your situation is very different but that advice does help some people.
Jens Hansen · 2018-07-30 21:25
So my gf just watched SEL in it's entirety and is now talking about how the wired is real or needs to be built. She think's she is lain, and is switching back and forth between herself and "connecting with lain". possible DID.

>>8937 >Stop focusing on your mental health problems. It becomes far to easy to blame your shortcomings on them. The thing is that you ARE your brain problems since you are your brain. So they are just as responsible for your shortcomings as you are. >STOP WATCHING CARTOONS SO MUCH. Why? Cartoons are good. Shame that traditional animation is all but dead, and even hand drawn digital is a dying art form, soon all we'll have is pigu disgusting 3DCG masquerading as cartoons. Feels bad man.
Random · 2018-07-31 10:08
>>8940 >I get accussed of imventing a life story Yea because when people ask you "How it's going mate?" they don't want to hear how in 6th grade everyone laughed while you peed your pants. If you are kind of person who waits for someone to ask sympathetic question and then barate them about your life story then ofc people will call you just sympathy baiting. I had a "friend" that would "brag" about how his life is in shambles. I start talking about football game that was yesterday and how I went to caffee to watch it and then he jumps in with "I couldn't have watched it because I didn't have money or appartment that day, so I was basically in the street homeless". Buzz killing sympathy baiter. Nobody wants to deal with those kind of people.
Otto Normalverbraucher · 2018-07-31 17:21
>>8975 Absolutely none of this applies to what was said there. I was really talking about how these discussions on imageboards always go, where the advice thrown out is always based on the assumption that people are miserable because they are spending their days in mom's basement with the blinds drawn drinking Mountain Dew and playing video games. (If someone is miserable because of that, the solution is simple. Usually it's not that simple though). If someone has actually attempted to do anything with their life beyond that, idiots on sites like this think they made it all up. So there's not much point in taking part in these threads most of the timr and your reply is a pretty good example of why.
Splicer · 2018-07-31 18:06
>>8976 It's best to let the thread die, to be honest. Both of us know that imageboards are bad places for this, so just let them be. You'd be better off searching for a better community to discuss your issues.

>>8980 Honestly, I didn't start the thread and have said almost nothing about myself in it either. I just wonder why people like >>8975 can't ignore topics that obviously don't interest them other than as excuses to be dicks.
The Oracle · 2018-07-31 18:31
>>8982 Because anonymous people online are dicks, especially when you have people who clearly have grown up in channer culture and think it's okay to be rude and insulting to others. It's why I mentioned finding another community because the culture here is just not conductive for the kind of discussion you need or for what I need as I pointed out in >>8941. Imageboards just suck for real discussion now.

But lain wasn't any sort of cause, the person in question likely is having a bad reaction to one or more of their regular medications in conjunction with weed and has also been exorbitantly sleep deprived. Over the course of the last month or so the GF has been convincing herself that she's peered somehow into the psychic basecode of sentioence and the universe and gained powers because of it, and things have been getting progressively loopier. Hi. >ADHD, General Anxiety on my diagnosis, occasional depressive/biplolar streaks on the side. Recently, a friend spoke some about executive dysfunction, and how focus on the first step of what needs to be done helped her with managing things like getting ready and going out. I thought about this in regards to myself, but the major issue in my case is that I'm only motivated by an immediate reward, or being able to not work, so compartmentalizing a job into tasks where the reward for completing every task but the last is "more work" makes motivation hard anyway. Any advice on motivation? Do you have any issues/experience with diminished motivation?

Psychosis doesn't just happen like that usually. I doubt you have much to blame yourself for in actuality. Was she an occasional drug user? Family history of psychosis? Any medications that could have triggered it? The chances that any of this is your fault are slim to none, and I doubt anyone is blaming you. So why must you blame yourself?

Hello /hum/e, one ought to be a slave of the passions, but I have none. I am not sure whether it is Depersonalization Disorder or Emotional Numbness, but I can't 'feel' anything. My body still has the normal responses to fear and anger, but I no longer perceive the 'warm' internal sensations I used to get when I was still able to experience emotions, I still feel 'chills' on my skin from time to time, but these are like 'external' sensations rather than the 'internal' feelings I miss. What can I do to change this? I want to feel again as soon as possible.

I'm diagnosed as autistic, but the diagnosis is bullsoykaf. I have absolutely no problem reading faces, understanding motivations, et cetera - I'm just really fuarrrking shy. To the point I spent my childhood being taken to doctors and psychologists until I was embarrassed enough to deliberately flunk a very easy test, hence my diagnosis. Checked the catalog for the most relevant thread. Does anyone have any advice on helping someone who won't help themselves, because they think they're worthless? I know you can't help someone who won't help themselves, at least meaningfully, but I have a friend who's convinced themselves they're worthless, and their life isn't worth living. Some people have abandoned this person because she's too much of a handful, which has reinforced these feelings even further. Her remaining friends, including me, do all we can to be supportive, but she barely listens. I want to be there for her, but any attempts to reach out barely register, and any advice or reassurance is rebutted. Does anyone have any advice at all?

>>12249 You didn't give us many hints. What you want to change specifically in behavior and what kinds of arguments she shuts down how would be helpful in determining what to do. With the little given you could at best say female= statistically more likely to listen to group opinion which would explain individual opinions being easily dismissed but that's just guesswork that doesn't have to be accurate for the individual. This is either way not far from fortunetelling. Take as many clues as you can get and guess the statistically most probable solution. That's also why as much as possible data is needed to push accuracy up.

>>12250 Well, that seeking therapy for herself, first of all, which she retorts that it's pointless, because she's going to kill herself anyway. She's insisted nobody cares about her before, and, at other times, basically saying that the only reason she hasn't killed herself is for the sake of the people who care about her. She's tried twice in the past couple of years. I want to encourage her to try and improve her station in life from just being a NEET and complaining about wasting away and not having any money. I've tried to get her to develop her skills (she has a decently keen talent for photography and photomanipulation, as well as what I guess you could describe as a gamer's general technical knowhow). I've tried to encourage her to develop these skills more, which would, at least encourage her to be more active, more engaged, and more capable of getting things that make her happy, but she's convinced she's utterly worthless and untalented. In general, I tell her she has the potential to be more and happier than she is, to which she insists she's completely useless and it's senseless for her to keep living. > female= statistically more likely to listen to group opinion If it makes a difference, the person in question's a tranny.

>>12418 Watch Evangelion. Read Steppenwolf. Read about cognitive behavioral therapy and cognitive distortions (plenty of simple articles out there, not a massive undertaking). This is honestly the best advice I have for the suicidal, but, while these things helped me (to a limited degree), I can not at all guarantee that they will help anyone else. The change has to take place inside of her, so exposure to new ideas could potentially help. This is all intensely theoretical, though. If you get results, post back.

>>8895 Alexander Technique and Feldenkrais Method both have behavioural modification at their highest level, but like yoga, that almost never gets taught any more and they're usually taught as purely physical disciplines. Try reading some of the original books by F.M. Alexander and Mosche Feldenkrais themselves, especially any passages or chapters dealing with what Alexander calls "inhibition" and Feldenkrais calls "spontaneity". They sound like opposites, but they're really talking about the same thing, deprogramming yourself from compulsive behavioural patterns.

>>8937 >You just gotta start doing something other than sitting there watching anime. This seems to be clearly false. If I hit myself with a hammer, it probably won't make me feel better. Even if I rephrase this statement charitably, "something" is so vague as to be essentially meaningless. Keep in mind that people can end up watching anime because they've already tried other things and didn't enjoy them. I don't think the usual methods of attaining "fun" or "satisfaction" generally work for hardcore anime nerds. Weirdos have reasons for being weird. If someone turns to anime because real life is unsatisfying, it doesn't make sense to think that his/her turning back to real life will be satisfying. Finally, on what grounds could you reasonably make a promise regarding the mental health of others? What works for you will not necessarily work for someone else.

>>12427 >>12418 I forgot this, but she might like Haibane Renmei. It's not a solution, but she might find it comforting. It's a calm, reflective, melancholic show about amnesiac angels. It's very heavily implied that these angels are suicides being given a second chance in the afterlife, and the writing is sympathetic to the suicidal point of view.

>>12427 I see. Me and her are both fans of Eva, and I'll read into those phenomena. Thanks for the advice, anon.

>>12418 I like practical simple solutions. If she photographs and has no self-worth start with selling her images on stock sites. Getting paid for your work gives a huge self-esteem boost for artists.

>>12429 I think your expectations for the rigour of throwaway posts on this Russian neon sign enthusiast's forum might be a little high, anon.

>>12445 I have hope for my fellow Lain enthusiasts. I've seen quite a few well-thought-out posts here before. Further, if I point out the flaws in one formulation of an argument, someone else may come along and fill in the gaps in a way that is helpful to those reading the thread. If nothing else, it helps to prevent the acceptance of poor arguments (in theory, at least). Be the change you want to see in the board, I guess. Every poster has limited power to set the level of public dialogue here. >Russian neon sign enthusiast's Nice one

I have anxiety and I take citalopram for it. I think it's helping some but some days it's pretty bad and I become terrible to be around. I'm surprised that I haven't been fired

>>9216 you were right I think the spirituality in SEL just gave her an excuse to escape from a hard time. It's been almost a year since all that crazy soykaf happened. I'm the poster from 8967, 8987, 9211. Me and my gf are now happily living together. Apparently she is prone to mania when sleep deprived and was under a lot of stress.I know this thread is basically dead I just thought I would leave off on a happier note.

I am diagnosed with clinical depression and general anxiety disorder. I do not take any medication currently but would like to see a psychiatrist. I tried to see one at the local mental health clinic but gave up after the lady doing my patient intake tried to send me to a trauma therapist instead. I have panic attacks where it feels like my skin is stinging and my only way to cope is to shutdown and hide under a blanket. But in general I am doing much better than a few years ago and am a recovered hikikomori. I would like to be on buspirone again because it made me feel calm and gave me this invincible confident feeling in social situations. It was all benefit with no drawback. I would like to see a psychiatrist who would prescribe this but will wait. I would also like a psychiatrist to get rid of the depression diagnosis as I'm recovered.

I'm a 21 year old neet of 3 years. I would be a hikikomori but I go for car rides with my mom or go to the store, little things like that. I'm diagnosed with Avoidant Personality Disorder, Neurodevelopmental Disorder (autism I guess), Persistent depressive disorder, and social phobia. Needless to say it is difficult for me to get out, but I do it sometimes. Thanks to my mom and great doctors I've gotten on SSI which has helped my situation a bit. It's sad being a good for nothing government tit sucking leech but it is what it is. I worry about what I'm going to do when all of my family dies and I have no support. I've never worked a job.

I take care of my business in life fairly well but sometimes fall into negative thought spirals remembering all the bad times and injustice. I sometimes wonder if I hadnt been through certain things would I be happier or would I just be depressed about something else. I worry one day I may hospitalise someone and get in trouble for it, to get justice for the times it has been done to me.
