NEET rant and general life thread
Crash Override · 2018-07-18 09:30
I'm a fairly smart person, great social skills, attractive and fairly masculine, and I work a great job and have what many would call "the life." I am often invited to social outings, and I am frequently approached by women, sometimes out of romantic interest and sometimes just to have conversation with. Truth be told though, I absolutely hate it all. I fantasize about winning millions from the lottery, and running away and living off my winnings. I fantasize about being completely alone (I have no wife and kids, nor am I even dating) and I dream about living in total isolation far from society. My fantasy is living on the country side, with my only contact with other people being an internet connection. I might, maybe, go to a market once a month (if even that) to buy groceries and food-stuffs. I just want to live alone and abuse alcohol until it kills me or until I die of simply old age.
Seriously, I don't need nice things. I don't want a big house, a fast car, a bunch of unnecessary things; just a shack, my little Honda, maybe a motorcycle and just living space. I already have all the material objects I *need*, there's perhaps a few more I simply **want**, but I already have what I need.
>ITT we discuss how we can have as little contact with the world as possible.

There's a pretty interesting place up in Alaska, with a population of about 200 and the majority live in the same 14 story building. You can actually buy apartments there and there's a post office, church, some stores, police department, and hospital all in the same building. They currently have a condo for sale, it's a bit large for you because you're by yourself but if you have enough of nest egg you could just live there, get whatever you need from the Internet and make very little contact with anyone.

That's the coolest goddamn thing I've ever seen! How do they support themselves? I would have to leave my job for it.

You mean residents or the city itself? If you mean the city, they might be using money from tourists since Whittier, Alaska is also a vacation spot for outdoorsmen. Regular residents probably get jobs in the tower or maybe they drive to nearby cities like Anchorage. You might have to contact the city or the Begich Tower for more info because I'm just some Midwestern dude who hates the cold but everything weird and cool is in cold places for some reason.

I'm pretty similar to you OP except I have no money and no job. My ideal life is I live in a small room miles from civilisation full of computers and music equipment and I just make music all day and put it online and live off patreon or some soykaf. It will never happen, but that's my endgame goal. I think it's the ultimate counter-culture in some sense. All these other subcultures like punk or hippies try to fight against society while living in and relying entirely on it, meaning that they eventually get absorbed into what they were fighting against. But completely leaving it behind, dropping out so to speak, you can't sell that back to people. It takes a certain masochism to do it in the first place. One day lains, one day.

Fwiw shipping to Alaska is slow and very expensive so keep that in mind. I was talking to some guy from Alaska recently and he told me he doesn't even bother ordering things online.

I feel very similarly, and I have explained to my partner and my therapist my aspirations which are to most people depressing, isolating, and created by mental health issues (which may be true), but I truly only feel comfortable when I am in my room and surrounded by my belongings (albeit, there aren't many), and all of the data I have hoarded, games I play, music I listen to, etc. I would be perfectly happy spending the next 60 years of my life rotting away in a similar position, as I have done it for the past 9 years for the most part. I live independently, I have not worked a job in 5 years (can't explain my income, but it exists). I've toured with my old band, seen most of the US, and truly believe that the world does not have much of interest to offer me. My original lust to travel and experience the world was killed and dulled so heavily when I began to realize that most places are just the same rehashed soykaf. NEET life is ideal, and although I don't live in an isolated area (I live in a major city in the US), I have been living it for a long time and I hope to continue it for a long time.

Please teach me the ways of the passive income!
I also live in a big city, but really physical location doesn't matter much as long as I have an internet connection and laptop.

It's not passive income, it's just not legal income. Mostly couldn't share for security reasons. I know reddit is typically trash, but check out r/beermoney, it's got some good passive income tutorials and lots of people doing it.

Beermoney can only feed NEETs and third-worldlers. You probably sell weed, right?
Terzibashjian · 2018-07-18 19:28
So, besides Alaska, which at this point is just a weird obsession of mine despite the fact that I hate cold places, maybe a small lot of land near a large city? Far enough to where you have some space from your neighbors which is really nice, I live on a large patch of land and I have this asshole neighbor who threw his half-eaten watermelon in my land but we're far enough to where I can just ignore him unless he starts getting really dickish. But you're close enough to the local stores and hospital.
Yu-ichi · 2018-07-20 10:08
I am thinking the same thing OP (just without having millions of freedombucks) my ideal life would be to life off the land while travelling across the continent I will definitely have my laptop and some guns with me or maybe I buy a plot start a settlement trying to be self reliant and maybe manufacture some goods

What is carding?

Using other people's credit cards for fun and profit. I think it might also refer to credit card fraud more broadly.

I suggest taking a long vacation in the countryside or forest first to see what it is like. It is only a small sample of what you described as what you want but it will help you evaluate if that is where you want to be.
Otherwise, my advice is to work towards buying a plot of land with a house to renovate or replace. Basically, a homestead.
