How does one make friends on the internet (particularly chans)? I hear about it happening a lot but i don't really understand it.
Batou · 2024-12-18 07:56
please let me know if you find out :') discord: secreus

>>86474 You don't. You call people niggers and then go on with your day

>>86474 These are chans, no one is supposed to befriend the other, though if you make a website or project with some good stuff in it maybe some will want to contact you. Happened to me, and honestly, it can get sometimes exhausting, most of the time you make friends who'll play a game with you or talk to you about random stuff, and you wouldn't have to do it all time.

remember the feel may be weird to gauge online cuz the text alone, with no tones or emotes lacks the subtleties of social cues interacting irl has. voice chats makes the process feel more genuine if u get around to find a group of folks to hangout with. >>86477 is on the spot if u looking for game buddies. :)

When i was still in highschool like 8 years ago I would but id never now. Most of the things people think are commonalities or connect them in chans are not really indicative at all of if you will make good friends. The only time ive seen it work not just by chance is if you share an interest that you put a significant amount of work in, ie people reallt into netsec, cracking, art, whatever might be good friends despite not being compatible in many other ways because they just work well together and the work they do is important to them. Just liking the same video games, or media, or books, or even having a few similar important opinions or beliefs often makes for disastrous friendships in my opinion. And thats often on chans the determining factor that leads to a friendship outside the chan. Someone can share things like that with you and be someone you come to find that you absolutely hate to such a point you might even question whether you like or believe those things anymore (but dont actually let a person make you do that).

think back to school. it was completely random. you made an expression about somethng in homeroom and the guy who sat behind you laughed. you exchanged a few words once or twice about stuff that was happening. maybe you saw the guy in the lunch room and sat next to him. you walked part way home with him. he invited you over to his house. you like some of the same music. you went to the mall together. all just because you sat next to each other in home room. it's the same anywhere else, like work or a club or something. it's hader on chans because you don't always know who is posting something, though you can kind of guess sometimes. and a lot of people on chans are there because they isolate and don't go out much, so they might not have much social ability in the first place. but it can still happen. it's all random.

i would like to know as well, i have trouble with it

You need to be working on (or saying) something of genuine value that other people find worth interrogating.

A lot of imageboards have IRC channels, where you can talk to people, who browse such places.
John Doe · 2025-04-18 21:53
I've only ever met people irl that also browse chans, not even similar boards. Then I act like I'm on a xhan and they don't want anything to do with me. Like, dude I'm trying to bond through our similar interests but nah. Very frustrating. Though I guess I'm an eccentric person.

>>86474 I think chans are no place to be making friends, especially anonymous chans with non-identifiable users. Have you tried various Discord servers? You can get personal with Discord users, and if they live close to you then you can meet up. I've done this before, although I have retained no friendships from doing this (my own fault). In my experience, most internet users I encounter live somewhere far away, so I can never get close and personal with them, although there have been exceptions to this. There is like one guy I met online first and then YEARS later I actually flew down to Arizona to actually meet him. I've met hundreds (thousands) of users and I'm really only friends with one or two (and frankly I question if they are genuine friends to me in the first place). Anyway, in my experience, humans tend to like people who are funny and happy, this is normal. If you can be happy and have fun, humans will tend to like you. If you aren't, then making friends will be more difficult for you. Maybe there are some persons who will make a friend of you, maybe, you have to try and find out. I think the best way to make a friend is to really demonstrate personality or character. It's in the way that you act, the way that you talk, the kind of emotions you demonstrate. Also, how you engage with them in a conversation. What do you have to say? Can you keep the conversation going? Do they like talking to you? You should be yourself, and find people who would be attracted to you. Don't ask a bunch of questions, people won't like that, you should contribute something to the conversation, are you really intelligent? Do you have something interesting to say? Or are you funny and can make people laugh? Not everyone has an interest in intellectual topics (they would find them boring), so in that case talking about information or ideas isn't the right choice. You should know what kind of person they are (asking some questions is OK), and then decide what to talk about. I think for many people, humans just want to have fun. I think it's obnoxious, but that's just the way humans are.

Online communities like role play servers, forums, any community where you join at a specific point of the day or week, you find the people who aren't retarded (or you make friends with the retarded if you are one, matter of perspective I'm sure) and eventually you move it into in real life if they aren't a complete destitute loser

>>86474 Friends are for literally mentally ill modern humanoids. Trust me OP, you don't need a friend. Have a nice time with your family, with yourself. Our ancestors did not have friends. The people they spent their time with were usually members of their own families. ‘Friendship’ is a modern invention. If there is no consanguinity, there is no relationship, get that in your mind.

>>89674 The problem with youtube videos is that I don't like fuarrrking gurus that think their life is the same as theirs. I cannot stand those "know-it-all scholars" because every life is different. While one cannot argue what's best to someone, we can agree on what's wrong for someone. And what's wrong for someone is fuarrrkING TAKING ADVISE FROM INTERNET GURUS
Apoc · 2025-04-21 14:13
>>89652 yep, you've summarized it pretty well. The thing is, back when I was in highschool and significantly more socially inept, it didn't feel obnoxious, it felt like 5D chess. Maybe it's just autism idk. Now I'm much better in conversations (I think?) but now I rarely have the will or the interest for it. Friendships to me seem like a chore, unfortunately. >>89655 I feel like this and I hate it. I hate that I'm ending up with the same conclusion. Also I don't think that generally it's a net positive to take this attitude too literally. If by friendship you mean, life-or-death kind of friend then, yeah, you likely won't find those even if you have a big IRL circle of friends, and you'll never find them online or on an chan. However, knowing more people, establishing rapport and good will can and does help. It can make a ton of difference in your life. No one is hyper-independent and sooner or later we end up needing help about things. I'm talking about practicality not the "let's netfilx and chill" kind of friendship. How do you think families are formed? They didn't pop in existence out of nowhere. Your parents were likely in a shared social circle, met through friends etc. (which is one of the best way to meet a potential partner). How are you gonna do that without having said social circle in the first place? Having IRL connections can be useful.

You shouldn't want to make Internet friends, it is like kicking dead whales down the beach. Its best to stick to talking to people on forums or group chats, but don't move to DM. Try connecting more with family if you feel lonely, or just with people that life around you. Internet relationships of any kind are fake and gay and unfulfilling.

The only people who ever loved me I met on chans. Start a gang. Never meet.

>How does one make friends on the internet You do not need to bother. Maybe there are people out there who will accept absolute zeros of, just text. Without heart. It's always been a transformation where heatgiving people may take heatless text, and transmit it further, among themselves, like finding anonymous money. Who do not ask whom it belonged to, or what grisly or repellent entity left them there. Who just care for utility, their drive unaffected by whether it is only that, and scant. Who mind nothing but the warmth they can cause in further people down the network. 2d text finds itself in heart- and warmthhaving 3d, and circulates in color hence.

move to adjacent forums, irc, chats otherwise et cetera. things with fixed identities, direct message people you have common interests with

>>89655 >Our ancestors did not have friends. In a sense. Our ancestors lived in packs, e.g. without remote friends. >>92867 Or for people who were hurt before. Or who would discuss stuff local townlies would consider CRINGEY. It hurts to be a child of a highly educated person among working-class kiddos, ya know.
