A Reflection on the Human-Computer Relationship
Witek · 2024-09-03 10:57
While they can be incredible tools for productivity and creativity, they also have the potential to be destructive, depending on how we choose to use them.
My perspective on what constitutes "good" or "bad" usage is subjective, shaped by my own experiences.
From a young age, I associated computers primarily with playing video games.
As I grew older, my usage expanded to include watching videos, porn, listening to music, browsing social media and websites - often leading to mindless scrolling.
I now view many of these activities as detrimental.
Playing video games solely for entertainment feels like a waste of time and drains mental energy.
Nowadays, I limit my gaming to local co-op sessions with friends, educational genre, as well as games that require physical activity, such as those on the Wii or Nintendo Switch.
I’ve also distanced myself from watching videos or listening to music for similar reasons.
In fact, I’ve completely stopped listening to music.
Occasionally, I watch non-educational videos, but I seek out those that offer more value than just entertainment.
The negative effects of pornography and social media are well-documented, and I’ve chosen to avoid porn video.
I only use Facebook occasionally, as I find it necessary for certain purposes, but I rarely engage with it.
I do enjoy imageboards(I find them valuable), though I tend to steer clear of 4chan due to its generally low-quality content.
I don’t consider using a computer a waste of time; rather, it can be a powerful tool for learning and understanding diverse perspectives.
When used purposefully, a computer can facilitate productive tasks, such as researching information or learning to program in Python.
However, mindless usage leads to wasted time and mental clutter.
If you find yourself without a specific task, I encourage you to read a book or learn to embrace moments of boredom.
I’m curious to hear your thoughts on the topics I’ve raised. What’s your perspective?

why so many words to say so little?
yes, computer good but also bad. Porn bad, timesink online multiplayer videogames also bad. Imageboards have good info but are easy to sink time into, mindless usage of computer leads to wasted time.
There is also no easy tutorial to quit addictions and timewasting, it's a personal issue (at least it was for me) and you have to make it a goal and figure it out.

>why so many words to say so little?
What I have written conveys a significant message. Allow me to summarize:
The text chronicles my journey with computers, beginning in childhood.
It illustrates a shift in my mindset, as I now recognize many of my earlier activities as unproductive and mentally exhausting.
I emphasize my decision to establish boundaries and distance myself from certain behaviors.
I clearly outline the activities I consider detrimental and the rules I have implemented to guide my usage.
In conclusion, I assert that computers can be very beneficial when used with intention and purpose.

I'm very curious about your motivations for removing pleasurable activities from your life as though they are curses placed upon the mind.
I can understand avoiding things that are known addiction outlets such as porn, social media, and video games. But shared entertainment provides value in social contexts, as you yourself mentioned with local co-op. Being able to attend a concert, or even be excited about new art with your friends is itself a valuable component of the human endeavor.
Let alone the value in art itself, and what you can take out of it. A song provides insight into concepts one may never experience or consider, for example. And this doesn't have to be "high art", Drill or Trap both provide insight into the mindsets and lives of people living in their respective ghettos. It's not clean, or pretty, but it is insightful all the same.
Perhaps you do not have people in which to share those experiences, and as such the art comes to you as empty entertainment. Or perhaps you have other reasons removed from art and social interaction at all. But I disagree with the premise that pleasantries are empty or damaging as you suggest.
If I misunderstood your writing, my apologies.

Some people are completely incapable of moderating themselves. If they allow themselves small pleasures, soon they are neglecting every one of their responsibilities to over-indulge. People do it with sugar, drugs, gaming, porn, etc. Some people have zero self-control. The post/modern era has been a disaster for these types.
Sabo Engle · 2024-09-17 13:51
>>84079
>1. Self-control and mindful decision-making
>2. The Dopamine Trap
These are one in the same to me, that being a symptom of an overlying issue. What that is I obviously don't know, but it reminds me heavily of a lot of other people I see on this website: That of being extremely emotionally disconnected from themselves. While I am in no position of authority on a little pseudo-anonymous image board, I would urge you to consider that it is very easy to lack self control around emotions, dopamine, and pleasures when you are unable to or refuse to engage with your emotional center. Self control does not, and never does stem from logical or rational reasoning, but of emotional reasoning. Even philosophies that get as misconstrued as Stoicism actively say this (if you read the actual material, and not the "mens help experts" that patrol the internet like hunting dogs).
>3. Losing Interest in Reality
The real world also relies heavily on emotional response, or to be a little silly an "appeal to emotion" if you will. A beautiful hike, or a bustling downtown, is effectively empty from a rational or logical perspective. I recall plenty of times as a kid where nothing except the stimulation of a computer brought me any pleasure. What it was, was depression and a disconnect and developmentally stunted emotional core.
>4. Boredom as a Catalyst for Creativity
I want to be clear that I think this perspective is interesting, and one I think some great artists may even share. But those great artists also suffered a lot, historically. I also do unquestionably agree that boredom is an important component of our lives. Constant stimulation is overwhelming even to a neurotypical person. There are times where I will simply lay down and meditate, or reduce my own thoughts into only thinking about the next pedal on a longer bicycle ride.
I think to your point, we do see things quite differently. I spent a long, long time developing my emotional center as an adult after being unable to as a child and that experience will always push my perspective certain ways. Not only that, but it was unimaginably worth it in my experience. As I also assume you are a man, or socialized as one growing up, the expectation to develop emotional reasoning and connection is just not there in most societies that I have experienced. That lack of expectation can really hurt some people who don't fit the expected mould of a "man", in my opinion. It certainly did me, anyway.
So to me, art at its core is emotional. Those emotions are what allow you to pull that insight I mentioned earlier, but it also can help you a lot in everyday life. A computer is just a tool in which to experience art, acquire knowledge, and apply your own mind. When you turn the monitor off, the only thing you will see is a reflection of yourself.

How do you survive as an emotional person in todays world?
Artists and musicians have been going crazy for the past 120 years because the world is so soykafty and meaningless now. Like if you are a healthy, empathetic person, participating in our society will basically drive you nuts.

Some days are better than others. But one of the most honest answers I have, is to just ask most women. Women are almost unilaterally socialized to, and expected to be emotionally intelligent. They largely develop healthy habits around emotions far earlier than most men as a result of that, from taking care of themselves to taking care of each other.
Because I think therein lies my answer to your question: Emotional, empathetic people take care of each other. I do nice things for my friends, they do nice things for me. Not to mention the value in socializing in an emotionally available way. Do I like perusing shops? No, not really. But I enjoy spending time with my friends who do, so I happily come along even if it's mostly just to be around those I care about. And sometimes I end up finding things I otherwise wouldn't have considered for myself! Likewise my friends like to chat about my tech nonsense, or come out on hikes with me, etc.
I know this may not be the most comfortable of answers, but at the end of the day we are pack animals. With emotional intelligence and empathy comes a need to be a social creature. It's something I see a lot of men struggle with in the present day, as many societies look down upon men who are openly emotional or vulnerable. There is also a lot of pressure against the modern movement of allowing emotional vulnerability in public. Whether it be the next alt-right movement decrying X disenfranchised minority as evil, or some authoritarian communists using praxis as a bat against "class traitors". It may seem unrelated, but you may notice that the through line is that neither group can accept emotion as a primary reasoning tool. They have to hide behind "facts and logic" as an excuse or front end to express their emotions. Because if they allowed emotional vulnerability, they may quickly realize that the scapegoat they hate so much has a lot in common with them.
So truth be told, it's scary. I am worried for my friends, family, and myself. Especially with the rise of extremism globally. But every time I get to be in their company, I know its worth it, and worth fighting for.

Emotional intelligence is psycho-babble not even from psychologists, but a journalist. Don't use it if you want to keep your credibility. Say something else, like "socially experienced" or anything.
>They largely develop healthy habits around emotions far earlier than most men as a result of that
Complete bullshit, as the kind of woman "unilaterally socialized to" definitely doesn't experience deep and life-changing emotions. If you want the simple version, only pain can build (or destroy) character which is why most women mentally remain children very late.
>from taking care of themselves
You must not live in the first world if you can truly write that.

That's builtin, though.

But I can assure you, my life has not been as you described. While I may not be winning any medals in the suffering olympics, I have little positive to say about my past. I lived through pain far longer than I should have, and it wasn't until I took my own wellbeing seriously that I began to properly realize just how damaging that is. For myself as well as others.
Some days I still come in conflict with those old thoughts, but luckily I have the tools and support to keep myself well aligned now.

I had a talk about this recently and realized halfway through explaining myself that everything alarming about the internet is actually just the result of social media and cellphones. The internet used to be great tool. There were always people who used it poorly or too much, there was always lots of trash, but none of it was a serious problem until social media created this continuous, immortal digital environment that shaped and took priority over the physical world. Then iPhones show up and change the internet into a handheld thing in almost everybody's pocket. Zero effort to access, virtually instantaneous, always with you. Discipline won't even a factor in using it moving forward because most humans after 2008 are given iPads as toddlers or, at best, got handed a phone with unmonitored access to porn and every bit of propaganda in the world the instant they hit puberty. They've been hooked on their phones from the moment they were 13, or frequently as young as 10 or 8. It shortens their attention spans, crashes motivation, raises anxiety, etc. They can't even speculate on what they are like or what they're capable of without a phone- and the phone is big enough in their lives they certainly would be different without it. But never having known themselves, they have no sense of what's been lost and no reason for restraint. You watch something from the early 80s like Videodrome, illustrating fears about how all this technology, media, and messaging is becoming integrated into humanity like some kind of new, fuarrrked up sensory organ. That was back when the TV was anchored in one place you had to travel to, sit down, and restrain yourself to. Now all that's way worse and it's physically on your person at all times. Most people under 30 are constantly, idly stimulating themselves with it like a compulsive masturbator. It's dark soykaf. For the forseeable future the only realistic way out of the internet is going to be individual choice, and that'll come at a lot of sacrifice. Society is absolutely married to this soykaf now.

Computers and playing on PS2 were my escape mechanism from middle school time when I was bullied for having obvious aspergers symptoms. Add being neglected in upbringing by an emotionally distant, narcissist mother and aggressive alcoholic, emotionally absent step-father (biological dad is unknown) to this equation, and you have a perfect example of a depressed, dissociated teenager with suicidal thoughts. I wasn't invited to any snapchat groups, so chans and discord servers were then and still are my prosthesis of socialization. Ofc I didn't enter any voice chats because mom would always come to my room and ask whom am I talking to and I didn't want to explain myself of every single thing I am doing. I have a voice like a teenager who is barely out of puberty despite being 23yo just cause of talking only when someone told me to or asked me something. I don't have any wrinkles on my face cause I didn't have any opportunities and friends to drink alcohol with or just go outside to draw sunshine. Rules of interpersonal relationships were written utterly against sincere, straightforward and neurodiverse ppl like me by a vile, despicable, renowned as a sociable but actually two-faced neurotypicals. My social cue reading skill is dogshit despite me being a pure extrovert. I have a huge urge to talk to anybody who won't ridicule me for being myself, but yet I was scalped of any opportunities to form meaningful relationships. Now I'm so deeply detached that I don't have a chance to talk to someone on a daily basis without making a bad first impression.
If I were to chose whether to be bullied emotionally or physically, I'd give anything for the latter. The bones will knit back together, new teeth are possible to replace, bruises will disappear, and you can lie about scars and no one will fact-check it. Trauma and resentment will remain forever, and you won't ever be the same person as before.
Attached pic is a Dino Buzatti's painting "The Morning Visitor" and exactly represents how am I feeling when I recall how many times I were ridiculed in middle school. Gaming was the only thing that gave me a tiny bit of satisfaction in this sickening and hideous world and stopped me from throwing myself under the train. I went to therapy maybe 2 years ago or something like that, it worked for about 7-8 visits once a month but some day I got told to sign up on Tinder or join a dance class so I, independent and blackpilled to the bone sperg decided not to come ever again.
Some people have IV or get intubated to live, I have my ThinkPad T14 with ryzen 4750u and Debian. Being constantly online or listening to music/podcasts/asmongold's commentary at any spare moment are just a mere tip of my mental health issue iceberg. Those dopamine traps are the main topic under this post so I don't have much desire to read all those replies. Imma just leave this here.

I believe that things like video games or entertainment media arent inherently bad. These mediums can sometimes be deep thought provoking pieces of art, and even when they arent, theres still value in just having fun or forming bonds with others online. Of course anything can become unhealthy if it becomes an addiction but on its own I dont believe these to be a waste of time.

While I wouldn't say that the post-modern era created ADHD, I do believe it caused a significant increase in people with ADHD. Theres a clear increase in the prevelence of ADHD and more people are claiming to have it than ever before. Our society is rapidly becoming one of constant quick attention. The long forum posts of old have been replaced by 15 second videos on social media, and theres a massive decline in people's attention spans.

Hey friend. This is exactly the reason why I don't agree too much with OP, although I understand it: Demonizing the digital world is a slippery slope when it's the only safe space where you are allowed to exist.
I'm sorry you had that upbringing, it was almost exactly the same for me too. One thing you said I must refute tho:

Don't think there's not a space in this world for you, since there are no such thing as rules. Most people go through life wanting to fill a void inside themselves so they bash their head with others like them, and it creates that culture of insensitivity and hypocrisy, but as a 31yo you I can tell you they are not the norm nor the only way to exist in this world.
Also, I know you like Asmongold, but I must say that I don't think he's a person who would actually get to understand your situation and provide you with helpful wisdom so treat with care.

Computers where my reality when reality sucked.
Growing up as a sensitive kid, I quickly realized that allowing my sensitive and emotional tendencies to manifest was quick way to get made fun of, humiliated and physically attacked by the people who were supposed to be my guardians. To be a man and have feelings is something to be deeply ashamed of, or so I was made to believe. So the internet, games and computers where the only place I could get to exist.
It was thanks to games like Final Fantasy that I realized how deeply I can get to feel things, specially through music, and computers were a way to channel those feelings in a canvas (I used to make my own versions of Final Fantasy with Power Point slides, heh)
The internet helped me find other online-driven people around the world, and it was thanks to my parents letting me have unrestricted access to the internet (out of ignorance) that I actually got to discover some of my personality. It also exposed me to the cruel and harsh realities of this world that my parents were stupidly protecting me from, but I could approach those with a lot of caution and distance since it was, well... the internet.
What is sad about the current state of the digital world is that is not a safe space anymore for children like me. Everyone wants your click, your attention and to hook you into their web. Things you don't care about or want to see will be put on your face, and you can't escape from them, or not as easily since they can even find their way through your OS (mf Windows search bar). You cannot connect with anyone like I did before because most internet users are so radicalized these days that even emitting a nuanced opinion can make you a target for a lot of hate and ridicule. How can a child find themselves in this environment, if this is now the front doors of the internet?
I've been mourning the death of the internet from the 90s/2000s for a while. It was a literal part of me, but I've worked through a lot of my trauma and feelings on therapy these last few years, to the point where I can exist in the physical world as myself now, so the internet doesn't have to be my safe space as much anymore. Now approaching the web in a new way, avoiding the corporate and lunatic parts of it, and heading towards those hidden parts where I've found people that share my same experiences, so I'm excited about that.
Just wanted to take this out of my heart.
Shogun · 2025-04-09 14:10
Turing machines aren't conscious - you aren't really having a relationship with them as me and you here, but rather as yourself/the universe.
As for their usefulness. To say that they're not useful is beyong ignorant and sheltered, but people have differing degrees of curiosity in life, so it's not a value judgement on my part, just a recognition of an abyss between us.
Otto Normalverbraucher · 2025-04-09 22:35
It isn't really a relationship to me but an extension of my body allowing me to be in multiple locations at once to gather information and interact with people.
Hiro Protagonist · 2025-06-08 20:12
The internet is a double-edged sword, but it all matters how one uses it. It is a minefield for those with addictive tendencies, as it is no secret that apps are designed to be highly addictive. A few things that have helped me in this are as follows:
- Greyscale on the phone. This has deeply impacted my phone screen time to the point that I am screen-on less than 20-30 minutes a day most days
- No browser on phone. If I want to look something up, I have to make a note of it and look it up when I get back to my machine.
- Pihole to block porn and ads. I can disable it, but it is a point of friction from falling down the adult content addiction.
- Generally, I try to use screens only for productivity/creative pursuits and conversational style forums/imageboards. I try to not use them for entertainment, as my entire existence would then center around screens.
- Get out of the house at least once a day, into nature ideally.
This is not to say that I do not use the computer an an "extension of self"; I do. It is my journal, my second brain, my task/project manager, my creative outlet, I make my living online. But, it takes discipline to use a computer this way, and most people are hopelessly addicted (4+ hours a day on a phone is the norm). If you want to change your relationship with the machine, take some time off, detox entirely, and then come back to it with renewed eyes and decide how to mindfully use the tool that it is.

I've read a summary of an article talking about Gen Z being a "lost" generation due to the low numbers of employment, education etc.
Now I didn't read it fully so I can't say what it was actually about but I do agree with one thing.
I do think there is a part of this generation that is lost. So many kids grew up with computers and mostly relied on them to grow socially or just grow in general as a human being.
There isn't much this generation really added, sure there still is time but the only thing we have culturally contributed is the evolution of memes on the internet. Maybe AI could be contributed to our generation but I am not sure.
There's also a lot of computer scientists or programmers but how many of them genuinely enjoy their study and how many of them chose it just to fulfill an addiction.
Not to mention how Covid fuarrrked a major part of the young populous during their important years.
Corpos have also taken a liking to the internet and monetize everything they can. Which always was a thing but modern times accelerate this issue more.
Porn and sexual content is getting more normalized just in order to pursue profits and a sustainable fan base.
And I feel many kids just feel confused by the information overload that the modern internet brings.
I also hate the rise of self-help. While I support the idea, there are too many bad actors taking advantage of it and it pisses me off.

About those computer scientists, you can even zoom out further, and this is probably a key part of the thread topic, zoom out and realize that the nature of existing in the physical world (the tether that binds us in this dimension to the physical one in which we both exist now wherever you may be). our very existence in that dimension dictates our submission to its environment, we must act or we will perish, without us seeking shelter or food, safety or drinking water, we will cease to exist. deep down in us as a being is a drive that makes us do that. now, acknowledge the passing of time and that before us, hundreds of thousands if iterations of lifeforms experienced a similar version of this submission to the overwhelming dominance environment of that existence.
who lived, and struggled with their own version of succ, who thought, evolved, adapted, improvised, overcame, who shought caves, food, drinkable water, high trees to climb onto for safety, or built shelters from wood, stone, learned how to make fire, how to hunt, poach, farm, domesticate companions, give birth, nurture, all that in increasing complexicity with every iteration of life.
now branches of our most specialized tools , the calculating sticks, have evolved from being abaci, slide rules, into the integrated electronic circuit, from there into clusters of circuits which evolved these tools further into pocket calculators, desktop computers, smart phones, servers and server clusters, dedicated and hioghly specialized new forms of computation... and here we are
artificial intelligence, not quite yet, but very real in our lifetime, and without a doubt accelerating the environmental conditions of life on this planet in a similar way as the ic. or the steam engine, combustion engine, nuclear fission, and other keystones of evolution have before.
the pattern of thinking you used when you mentioned the unmentioned generation, made me think about the way this happens, thinking 100 years backwards on the timescale, 1926, would have the people of the past considered themselves as what we consider them to have been like in their time ?
probably not, people are beeing conditioned into obliging to the thought that a generation must be judged by its achievements,
when firstly in fact your subjective scope allows only for a limited judgment in that regard and secondly the value of a generation is always determined way later, in a historical context that allows to evaluate the impact it had against at least a few of those that followed after in order to be able to do a proper assessment.
not that it would matter in the first place. because every generation has its contributors.
the thing is now that the previously mentioned environment has been enhanced or expanded with the digital dimension, previous generations were already flooded with information, but it was still somewhat tangible, billboard advertisements, newspapers, printed information, then it started to become incorporeal, information became invisible, radio, television datalinks, a whole universe of informational dimensions all existing physically at the same time, broadcast around us, signals inside the wires, low- mid- high- ultra- mega- giga- Hertz frequency signals bouncing off the walls of the shelters we retreat ourselves into.
this means freedom, as it opens up spaces that are almost void of inhabitants, but also opens up new dangers, possibilities, shadows from which predators can charge at us ( in a exaggregated sense, i hope you understand the figurative nature of my writing here).
so what i was trying to get to was, waht matters is to ground yous self, to focus on your self first, to realize what am i, what are we, we wo share and those who dont share commonalities, it is not very far fetched that the reoccurrance of patterns in behavior which is dictated by the environment allows for the conclusion that those who share the same patterns are in a sense the same, to some degree oneness, while we all are compartmentalized born at different places, different times of the now yet we are all at the same now.
see where this is going ? calmness, unafraidness, wholeness...
The Plague · 2026-06-04 16:20
The years you mentioned thar fuarrrked a major part of the young populus, yes indeed, the impact cannot be dismissed, i have my theories from observing that period myself but this would strain the boundaries of this conversation and i do want to keep it on topic.
Without wanting to sound like i was downplaying that time in our recent history, see it as a environmental challenge that not many could pass, but as you probably realize, many did, many refused to take part for example, to make a difference, and this is where the change happened, one of these difference that people made in time, in their now of our past, forever leaving a mark or changing everything that comes after for themselves, and to an extent others, just like those that did take part in something or everything at that time shaped their own futures and those of the others to some extent...
The word corporation is a perversion in itself, the thing that has no body, that does only exist in a informational dimension of rulesets, behavioral programming patterns for humans, to bend themselves and others after, the corporation or a different type of the same species of "thing", "the state" is a scary and dangrous thing, because both are entirely void of moral and conscience (which is not bad on its own, computers are also amoral for example but that disctinction computer/corporation would probably nuke this reply even further) i see it like a forest fire, burning the forest in which the trees are communities, togetherness, some corporations might do good but they have almost no safety regulations or security measures and are too easily corrupted and perverted, they require careful handling or they can get devastating fast, not only for the wheels in its machine, the humans that make up the actual "corpus" of the corporation, it's body, but especially those who stand in its way. i am convinved that the current trend of Ai / LLM / Neural Nets is going to revolutionise "the corporation" and by that also will abolish "the state" as we know it and its buerocracy which i am right now out of figures for to describe it with, but its impact is both destructive and obstructive, much like a big boulder on a chain that the state drags along but also whips around as its moving...
Pron is a informational drug, as hinted at before, the sumbission to the environment,... our spark is phased inside this phyiscal vessel, the vessel runs on biologics, cells, chemical information exchange, messengers, receptors, nutrients and metabolic products and wastes...
Step back if you will one more time and take a look at the recent past, technological advancement has accelerated the environmental changes so fast, that the iterations of biological life had less and less time to iterate and adapt in a was that the biological life was used to. This confronted lifeforms with new environmental effects, dangers, AND enticements, new bright berries, on a incorporeal glowing media bush, grown inside of screens, seeded by magazines, VHS tapes, data streams...
Some of those berries are Pron, others are vidya, warez, clicks, junk, slop, all exploits.
Exploits to the types of biocomputer that we all run on to some degree. Exploiting the inbetween, the unseen...
Look at us here, you typing that post of yours, i by chance clicking on that thread out of curiosity while browsing the catalog, probably on the look for my own next hit of excitement, for some reason managing to see beyong your spacing, and forcing myself to read your post out of all of those posts in this thread, yours, writing all this why ? because there was a feeling inside my mind that conviced me to grow beyond my comfort and do it anyways, here we are, maybe you will never read this, but if you do your eyes are taking up the light signals that are on display on your screen, those signals predetermined by my inputs now, later sent throughout and within, from my mind to yours, now think about telepathy, crude and void of magic because real and very real.
Now that said, people the addicts, the submissives to themselves, what do they want, addiction, or their drug, be it pron, slop, vidya, whatever, thing makes commodity, and manifestation of thing, tangibility, makes thing tradeable.
Trade, why ? greed, why ? abundance, it allows individuals to shift their necessary addiction focus to desirable or discretionary addictions, i.e. what you want, the conscious being.
This being what differentiates you from others, the degree of consciousness that you have, or better, are at in the now, for most of the time its stable but it depends on the state of your biological vessel, some have it more some less, some can gain it, some can never, others got it but lost it, the question is do you have it ? how would you know ? see ?
funny. Back to the discretionary addictions, from the penultimate sentence of mine.

What this brought us back to is the dominance and submission dictate which governs every existence tethhered to the physical dimension.
Slavery or Enslavement, being a slave, or enslaving others, which leads back to the manifestation of the corporation, the incorporeal manifestation of the primal force of dominance, enslavement.
Seeing that allows us to realize that it is part of existence, it is a tool like any other tool with its own set of rules and dimensional applications...
You might asked yourself earlier why abundance ? why enslavement for the desite of indulgement in the discretionary addictions ? A self-centered heart, it allows greed to spread inside of a self, once that has taken root if overwhelms the self and leads it to give in to the lust, the artificial indulgement of the substitute of discretionary addiction over the necessary natural endurance of necessary addiction which succumbed to leads to conflict of interest, which ultimatively means war in one, some or all of its many ugly manifestations.
Then you said you feel that many kids just feel confised by the information overload that the modern internet brings, and you are again right, of course, because they as their parents and in some cases already grandparents have been evolved by the acceleration of techonolgical and by that extension of mankind as a species, evolution, one of the really great filters.
What you hate (such a crude word, forgive me) is the commodification of a desire, another demand fulfilled, tokenized, traded by some that are like the way they are, to others that are the way they, are.
See it as a primitive way of a subset of individuals adapting to the environmental pressure, unable to resist and evolve, it is the easy way they chose, they chose the way of exploitation, of enslavement, having a easy life by commodifying the cure, by peddling salvation to those in despair, those that were less fortunate and had less immaculate timelines escalating into the existence of theirs in the now we all share.
i rather share love, than commodify my message to you, with that i'd like to conclude and say as much as you (and whoever may read this post of mine whenerver or wherever in our now), please remember that somewhere out there in the now there is someone else who loves you and knows you are a valuable fellow human.
i hope you have a great time of day/night and may your dreams and wishes manifest for you.

You sound just like any other anti-porn, anti-gaming, anti-fun dude believing that entire life must be super optimized towards some growth, usually involving money or some other meme value like power and influence.
Reality is that everything in life needs balance and becoming a mindless, joyless drone that eschew any form of easy entertainment is just as much soul eroding as any other form of addiction.
And yes, I think that it is just another form of addiction. You allow yourself to become miserable for a promise of some superior state of existence where you allow all the unhealthy behavior but in reality you just live a miserable life of all work and no play with maybe some time for sleep and food in between.
Do you even allow yourself to eat what you like or that also is optimized and on schedule?

Tsmt. Reading OP's post, it sounds so insane that it's bordering on fetishistic.
Seriously, you only have one life. Why wouldn't you want to enjoy it?

>(...) AVOID* all the unhealthy behavior(...)
I need to get in habit of reading my own posts before sending them.

>productive tasks, such as researching information or learning to program in Python.
even those tasks aren't inherently good things. what if the information you are researching is some alternative medicine pseudoscience nonsense or qanon conspiracy theory crap that you are obsessively googling out of confirmation bias? what if the programming skills you develop just end up being directed towards working for an seo company or an ai company where you get paid to destroy the internet to make some entrepeneurial psychopath extremely rich?
>I encourage you to read a book or learn to embrace moments of boredom.
you don't know anything about me or what i do with my spare time and even if you did who the hell are you to decide what is and isn't a productive use of my time, to decide what is in my best interest? maybe you should stop going around telling other people what to do with their lives and worry about your own pointless boring life.
>I’m curious to hear your thoughts on the topics I’ve raised.
oh are you? that's why you created a new thread and wrote a whole wall of text about yourself, because you're genuinely interested in other people's thoughts? are you sure you're not just fishing for interaction like a social parasite, throwing out the bait and hoping to reel in a nice juicy argument to stimulate your ego and validate your feelings of intellectual superiority?

i think op might just be overcompensating for the time lost on doomscrolling. i do agree with them that it's really easy to just outright waste one's time online. i think there has to be a golden middle way
