Asking you for advice

Day after day I feel like I identify more and more with Travis Bickle from Taxi Driver, way more than I should, and I don't want to end up like him, but it doesn't seem to be much of an option for me. I have some friends, but they don't share any of my hobbies or interests. Meeting new people won't work, because I live in a small town so I already know everybody that is around my age. People my age just seem to talk about going to parties and I don't like going to parties, I tried and didn't like it, if you don't get drunk or high it isn't fun so yeah. Also, I cannot have any job I would like to have due to me having a heart issue, so I cannot be a soldier or a firefighter. I'm just tired of having to keep everything to myself because everytime I say something I am stupid and wrong, although sometimes it seems that what matters is not what I say or do, but the fact that it's me the one who says or does something, not always but a lot of times it seems like it. I don't know what to do, I am 18 and I just don't see the point in living until I am 80 to work, get home alone, sleep and repeat. I feel like a ticking bomb and that sooner or later I am going to become like Travis. Also, sometimes I don't have energy to "socialise" because when I think about how most people look down on me as useless weirdo but then they get along with people who are... well, to be very polite "not the best humans on earth" (known hardcore animal abusers)... So what can I do to improve my situation?
(To clarify, I don't want to kill any presidential candidate like Travis and sorry for my broken English, I am not a native speaker)

sage because we have the same thread every day
however you are 18, so i will share a secret with you:
> I am 18 and I just don't see the point in living until I am 80 to work, get home alone, sleep and repeat
If you plan carefully, you can work not that hard and retire by 40 (or even younger, depends on how much you like to spend money)
how to do this?
step 1)
spend less money
you should be spending <50% of your income every year
this should be trivial- I currently live off of ~20k/yr for two people in a soykafty, high-cost city
step 2)
invest your money
nothing fancy, literally just a whole-market index stock will work (assuming USA)
you need to average ~5% a year, which is easy with whole-market (avg atm is ~8% since 2000)
https://fundresearch.fidelity.com/mutual-funds/performance-and-risk/315911693
step 3)
there is no step 3.
Assumptions:
- you want to live on 15k a year (5k less than me since you are 1 person, not two)
- Get a job that pays 40k a year minimum (full timer at aldi will accomplish this in most places)
- you earn 5% a year compounded yearly, that years earnings earn no interest (this is probably mildly conservative)
- you NEVER get a promotion or raise (relative to inflation) (if you go the aldi route, easy to get promoted after 2-3 years, and again after another 2-3, so your income should almost double, but we will ignore that)
The (retard friendly) math:
savings = 0
savings = savings*1.05 + 20000
age | savings (get 5% yearly) | income after taxes and living costs
18 | 0 | 20k
19 | 20000 | 20k
20 | 41000 | 20k
21 | 63050 | 20k
22 | 86202 | 20k
23 | 110512 | 20k
24 | 136038 | 20k
25 | 162840 | 20k
26 | 190982 | 20k
27 | 220531 | 20k
28 | 251557 | 20k
29 | 284135 | 20k
30 | 318342 | 20k
31 | 354259 | 20k
32 | 391972 | 20k
33 | 431571 | 20k
Note: 431571 * 0.05% = 21578, which is significantly greater than your estimated
living expenses of 15k/yr. So you could retire at 33 if desired. Alternatively,
see what happens if you keep working.
33 | 431571 | 20k
34 | 473149 | 20k
35 | 516807 | 20k
36 | 562647 | 20k
37 | 610780 | 20k
38 | 661319 | 20k
39 | 714385 | 20k
40 | 770104 | 20k
41 | 828609 | 20k
42 | 890040 | 20k
43 | 954542 | 20k
44 | 1022269 | 20k
Tada, you are now a millionare. Retire now and take your free 50k/yr for the
rest of your life.
misc notes:
This ONLY WORKS if you start young, so you have time to build up the interest snowball.
If you start old, it SUCKS. If you save low%, it SUCKS.
I have ignored taxes, but also job promotions, daily-compounding, inflation, etc. for simplification. I assume these will average out, maybe true, maybe not.
You can switch to working part time around 33, just enough to cover living expenses, and let the interest build itself. This will only delay your time to 1mil by ~5-10 years I think.
Because your income requirement is low (40k/yr USD), you can take basically any job you want. Wildlife-guy, cashier, chef, plumber's assistant, whatever. Any job you can get straight out of highschool works.

>So what can I do to improve my situation?
Improve yourself (and get rich).

Thanks for taking the time to read my post and I really appreciate your advice, but money isn't my core problem. I don't need a lot of money to live, I don't care about sleeping on the floor. My problem is loneliness, my problem is that this loneliness and emptiness that I feel hurts me a lot and makes me think that I am not gonna make it to be 40 or even 30. I don't want money, I just want to have someone who I can talk to about the things I like. Nevertheless, thank you very much for reading my post and for your advice, I really appreciate it.

maybe you want to do something different, but you are your parents and grandparents. How do they manage, what makes them happy or motivated or keeps them from blowing their brains out ? Probably something to be learned by looking at them, or even talking to them about what they think they'd do were they you.

My parents have friends and people to talk to and aren't as weird as I am. I don't want to talk to them, I don't want to be a burden for them or be the crazy one of the family. I have good parents, but I don't think that telling them would help. Thank you for your advice and for reading all that I wrote.

I don't think you're that much weirder than they are, if you're weird they're probably weird in similar ways or at least were inclined to be so when they were your age. Exceptions happen but this is generally the case.
>don't want to be a burden on them but they are good parents
they probably want you to do well. You have already been something of a voluntary burden on them for many years, asking them now for advice and direction that your life may be better is not a disservice to them nor a burden, it is an effort to not cause their already massive investment in you to be a waste. Broadly speaking you and they most likely want the same things for you, they know you better than anyone else, have more closely aligned incentives to yours than anyone else, and have some more experience than you, which includes valuable insight into what you will be like in the future.
Neither they nor you will loose anything by your asking them for friendly advice.
Good luck lain

You're not special. Either learn to wear a mask and shoot soykaf like any other retard in your town. Life fuarrrks everyone, there are no exceptions. I use to hate normalf@gs but now I don't they're just as retarded as everyone else and got fuarrrked in the ass by life like everyone else. Every man is a walking contradiction. Wizard gave Travis unironically good advice.
Or become extremely obsessive about your intellectual interest and learn all you can on your own in two years and start applying to universities so you can move to cities and stuff. If you'll put in some effort to socalize and look in right places you'll find like minded people.

grandparents didnt have to deal with internet. The modern issue seems to be finding likeminded people still interested in real world over binging some online addiction. People cope sitting on disc playing games but that aint the same as irl.

fug u man Im not saying they have all the answers to everything and can lay out a 5 step plan sure to make you a billionaire and get you a wife and harem that tolerate eachother as well as a community of good and honest friends not trying to leach off you or something. What they have is insight into you and into life, and generally less questionable motives than most people, and those two things count for something.
OPs problem seems to be at its core a lack of direction, and I think it could help with that. My personal opinion is that at least with many people of my generation that I've seen is that the parents felt obliged to not try to impose direction on their kids lives (and maybe society didn't help), and the result is a lot of directionless people. They're not even hedonists, just sort of lumps, sad and lonely and without inspiration. The parents weren't all like this, so my question is what motivated your parents. It will probably work for you, too.

personally im of the impression parent advice doesnt work because times changed and you cant live like them. For example parents are academics who got guaranteed good jobs with their degrees. Nowadays degrees are devalued because everyone got one. Further back granpa could afford everything - house, boat, 5kids living as a small farmer and today government is actively destroying farmers and people dont even dream about such levels of wealth.
I do think your investment advice is right but that again goes against how my predecessors got wealthy.
tldr: way i see it you need to find a new path fit to our modern times.
And op is complaining about social soykaf not $. Thats why i addressed atomization of society due internet addiction in previous post - its the root cause.

from le OP
>I just don't see the point in living until I am 80 to work, get home alone, sleep and repeat
this isn't a question about path, its a question about destinations, goals and purposes. OP doesn't have either but itll be easier for OP to work out a path for himself (which won't be his granddaddy's path) if he knows where he wants to get to (which might be where his granddaddy wanted to get to, too).
if this post doesn't get through your thick skull Ill probably stop replying because its pretty plain what I'm saying for some reason you just don't get it.

Lads, day after day I think about it more and more, thinks are not looking good. I am tired of being alone, there is something wrong with me. I am getting tired of this, really tired. I am nobody, nothing. Nobody would care. It is getting serious lads.
