Mindfulness and absolute concentration

Adrian · 2024-08-03 02:06
What do you think about the concept of mindfulness? How do you think it correlates with concentration and meditation? Personal experience, I have never been able to meditate for more than 30 minutes. My concentration and attention span is shattered, probably by some noots and the conveniences and comforts of modern life. I though, acknowledge the importance and benefits of mindfulness and total concentration.

When you say your concentration and attention span is shattered, do you mean that you are having flurries of thoughts passing through your head? Because that is normal. Meditation, contrary to what is portrayed by television, is not about bringing yourself to a place of thoughtlessness. Thoughts will come and go, you just need to let it happen, have them come, and look at them as they pass by, and you can reflect upon it.

>>83234 that is an intermediate step. eventually you learn to quiet them down and focus entirely on one object without losing overall awareness.

What does meditation mean to you? It seems everyone has different definitions ranging from "just thinking about something for a while" to "immersing yourself in thought so deeply that being hit with a bat won't even register" to "posing and thinking about nothing"

Neurologically speaking, you cannot think of nothing. There must be something in your head. I think of mindfulness simply as taking a minute and just observe everything around me and describe them objectively, or think about problems I have NOW instead of others I'm worried about in the future. I don't meditate but try to get bored, that's the point of it. Boredom is when you make your mind clear because finally it starts to remove clutter from it. It will feel hard to take a 15 mins in your room doing absolutely nothing, but you'll get used to it over time and find it much more enjoyable.

waiting for it to stand the test of time. something tells me it won't. meditation is basically anger control used to gatekeep youngsters from certain niches. like in "lmao kid first learn to be quiet only then you can join" and the kid is like "nooooo please let me in you old bums". you get the idea.

I do it twice a day, usually before reading or studying, and it seems to help! My "focus training" method is as following: >5 minute sudoku >12 minute countdown meditation (breath in, 100, breath out, 99, ...) >12 minute ATT (Attention Training Technique)
