Extreme desensitization to stress by all means
Yu-ichi · 2024-06-21 04:48
I have struggled with stress all my life, especially physical symptoms. But I've had enough. I'm seeking a solution.
What I've been doing so far:
>cold showers
>meditation
>cardio and resilience exercises
>healthy diet
If you have any book recommendations on this topic, I'd greatly appreciate them. I've been considering desensitizing myself to stressful stimuli by continuous exposure to it, such as extreme horror content and bad psychedelic trips. I'm already somewhat used to those things.
I plan on developing adrenaline junkie behavior in the future, one step at a time.
Theme park rides were always stressful to me because of my fear of heights (which I will confront and resolve, have already taken my first step in that direction) so I assume they will be crucial in this entire process. What else do you think might help?

Meditation and resilient exercises are based ways to overcome stress. I also recommend tea with adaptations. Sometimes it's as simple as reminding yourself that you're fine and in a safe environment (but don't make it a habit because sometimes you genuinely aren't in a safe environment).

The stress may be your body warning that you really are in a bad situation and you need to change it. it is common because modern society is a bad, unhealthy environment for humans. Exposing yourself to harm isnt good and will not make you more resilient. Stress causes profound harm and so you should avoid it.
Regardless, cardio, diet and meditation are all very good.

What most people today call "stress" is just chronic physical inflamation. You guys eat soykaf, create oxidative stress and then wonder why you feel tense all day long
Here's something to google:
>chaga mushroom (antioxidant, imunobooster, improves brain function)
>cordyceps mushroom (anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, larvicidal, anti-inflammatory, anti-diabetic, anti-oxidant, anti-tumor, pro-sexual, apoptotic, immunomodulatory, anti-HIV)
>shiitake mushroom (protect against cell damage, help your immune system, and boost white blood cell production for fighting off microbes)
>reishi mushroom (support the immune system, reduce inflammation, promote relaxation, improve sleep and manage stress and anxiety)
>lions mane mushroom (fighting dementia, treating nerve damage, managing diabetes, and preventing ulcers)
>Grounding, also called earthing, is a therapeutic technique that involves doing activities that “ground” or electrically reconnect you to the earth (removing free radicals from body)
>nerve flossing (tensioning one end of the nerve while simultaneously releasing tension on the other end)
>Vitamin D, zinc, magnesium, omega 3 (a lot of people have deficiency in these)
>physical exercise (at least do some cardio)
>eye movement therapy (mental stress can be removed with simple eye movements)
>trauma release exercise (literally shaking the PTSD away)
>cognitive behavioral therapy (stroicism for retards)
but more importantly, instead of adding soykaf like supplements and whatnot, just try removing stuff
>less screen time
>less electronics near you
>less processed foods
>less soda
>less indoors

All you need is diaphragmatic breathing. No fancy drugs. Just center yourself and breathe.
Physical conditioning to strengthen the body and hone the mind to be able to persist through adversity. Simple exercises like planking and long runs where you don't give up.
>I plan on developing adrenaline junkie behavior in the future, one step at a time.
ngl that's a terrible idea. At this point combat tourism or becoming a mercenary might be your thing since there is no rush like the life or death of combat. Also you might get PTSD.
Hiro Protagonist · 2024-06-22 13:14
Yu-Ichiji Baba I think you're on a good start with those good habits, but I'm going to suggest a short-cut for your 'theme park adrenaline junkie' arc. Rather than exposure IRL, use astral projection / lucid dreaming. You will encounter such fears that are locked in your subconscious (that you had no idea were there), you will be able to fully deal with the issue at the root, and you can do impossible things and live like cutting off your own limbs / head or diving off a cliff. This is an extension of your meditation practice. Try intermittent fasting with your diet as well.

Consume sugar, it is potently anti-cortisol, it literally makes you more resistant to stress at the cellular level. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9823716/

>Results: We identified a consistent pattern of health-care difficulties within the special operation forces community that we and other special operation forces health-care providers have termed "Operator Syndrome." This includes interrelated health and functional impairments including traumatic brain injury effects; endocrine dysfunction; sleep disturbance; obstructive sleep apnea; chronic joint/back pain, orthopedic problems, and headaches; substance abuse; depression and suicide; anger; worry, rumination, and stress reactivity; marital, family, and community dysfunction; problems with sexual health and intimacy; being "on guard" or hypervigilant; memory, concentration, and cognitive impairments; vestibular and vision impairments; challenges of the transition from military to civilian life; and common existential issues.
>Conclusions: "Operator Syndrome" may be understood as the natural consequences of an extraordinarily high allostatic load; the accumulation of physiological, neural, and neuroendocrine responses resulting from the prolonged chronic stress; and physical demands of a career with the military special forces. Clinical research and comprehensive, intensive immersion programs are needed to meet the unique needs of this community.

Psychedelics have been mentioned in this thread so I will write about them. For context, I believed that psychedelics could cure my personality issues, my lack of motivation, my anxiety, and my poor focus. And so I took psychedelics.
Consider these things:
Why do parents who optimize the outcome of their childrens lives for financial stability steer them away from all drugs?
If a person wants to achieve financial stability, regardless of their opinions on psychedelics, might it be wise for them to adopt the mindset of these 'tiger parents' and apply it to themselves?
Why are airline pilots held to high standards of sobriety?
If psychedelics do improve focus, could you imagine a surgeon taking a micro-dose of LSD before a performing a surgery? If you asked him to consider micro-dosing LSD before a surgery, why might he reject this proposition?
Does this surgeon take large doses of LSD in his free time? If not, why does this surgeon choose to stay sober even when he is not operating?
The age of this site's users is probably majority 16-26. I think it is important for this age range to consider that psychedelics can help or hurt a persons' outcome in life, and of these options which happens may not be so easily controlled by the user.

>Why do parents who optimize the outcome of their childrens lives for financial stability steer them away from all drugs?
Because they are ignorant. If they were informed they would encourage their kids to take meth.
The visual effects of LSD are well known and would interfere with the work of a surgeon and a pilot even if it wasn't mind-altering at all. Most people don't need extreme visual acuity for their profession.
Furthermore, psychedelics are good for your soul, not necessarily your wallet.
I personally know some very famous, high-achieving mathematicians that have taken a lot of acid and recommend it.

Why?
>Furthermore, psychedelics are good for your soul, not necessarily your wallet.
Here is an anecdote (which most certainly reveals my bias in this discussion. Yours is already obvious). My father has taken and continues to take large amounts of psychedelics in a quest to heal his loneliness and childhood trauma. Despite many psychedelic trips, the core of his personality has not changed: He is irritable, he can't handle criticism, and is neglectful of my two younger siblings. Your note about being good for the soul but bad for that wallet is especially funny here. My father has a good career and puts all of his energy into his work and none of his energy into raising his children. I feel that if your note were correct, then his behavior would have shifted to the exact opposite, but it has remained the same over many psychedelics trips if not worsened.
I think you should examine the intentions of my post again. Knowing that many on this site have a pro-psychedelic viewpoint, I wanted to prompt young readers to consider why many people choose to live without them. I did not want to indict psychedelics as something purely bad.

>sigh co deliques increase focus, might be good for surgeons and stuff
my personal observations of people self described as microdosing on LSD is that, though they may be focused, they are not intelligent, coherent, and logical to the same degree as they are when sober. I can't comment on what the actual dosages are here, nor on what they were like prior to initial sighcodelique usage,
There also seem to be more than a handful of cases where people are in some fashion permanently 'mentally scarred' (a phrase I seldom find sensible, but here it seems accurate) after what is described as not terribly serious 'recreational' sighcodelique consumption.
Obviously drug usage isn't entirely eschewed. Besides the wide consumption of alcohol (my parents, weakly pushed me towards it, but also firmly against it), caffeine, and some suggestions of nicotine (not to mention the vast number of parents who put their children on stims to get through school, and other state condoned medical system mediated drugs).
This article shouldn't tell you very much new but if you find pilots flying on stimms surprising, then its worth a read:
https://taskandpurpose.com/news/u2-pilot-fired-cocaine-drug-test/
While this guy is getting busted for cocaine, steroids, and distributing dexdroamphetamine to his colleagues, its acknowledged that it was his prescribed dextroamphetamine, and that amphetamines have been commonly used to keep the USAF flying for longer than there has been a USAF.
Its possible that commercial airline pilots take less, though many of them are ex military.

Thank you for your post, anon.
You may have misread my post a little bit, or perhaps what I thought was a clear post was a little bit muddy.
My point about surgeons was basically this: Imagine a person who values their psychological as utterly paramount, a person who worked themselves to the bone to get through medical school and then through residency to become a surgeon, whose hands, while they are operating, are responsible in no small way for another human's fate.
Here are two questions about this person:
While they are operating on patients, do they micro-dose LSD?
In their free time, do they take large doses of LSD?

If you want to be productive take a straight stimulant like caffeine or methamphetamine. Microdosed LSD is stimulating but I consider it a big waste to use it just to enhance your performance at work, there are other cognitive effects that can only be taken advantage of when out for a walk or working on something creative/personal.
>>82268
>>If they were informed they would encourage their kids to take meth.
>Why?
Meth makes you work really really hard all the time. It's what they give kids that have trouble focusing, and I know several people who took meth (branded as 'adderall') in college to help study intensely for long periods. Successful people too. It works. I guess once you start making big money you graduate to cocaine though.
>Yours is already obvious
You might be surprised to discover that I don't think psychedelics are a panacea or that regular use is good. I have not taken any psychedelic drug in years and I have no desire to do so again, and these days I barely take any cannabis at all compared to how much I used to.
I have met people that destroyed their minds from taking too much LSD (although I've met far more who fuarrrked up their minds on xanax+alcohol or meth). I also know some people who are addicted to cannabis and can't function without it. Like any other drug, including ones that aren't psychoactive, psychedelics do not always have the desired effect and can make things worse, especially when abused.
I don't regret my experience with psychedelic drugs, and although I know multiple people who had deeply traumatic experiences on LSD or mushrooms, I only know one that did not eventually have another trip that they considered healing and beneficial.
You are correct that, by themselves, they don't create permanent personality changes. That is something that only focused, intentional work while sober can do. However, putting yourself in an unusual mental state can precipitate the desire and drive to do that work. Once you get the message, hang up the phone.
>I did not want to indict psychedelics as something purely bad.

I have talked with Air Force doctors who prescribed these drugs to pilots. Don't believe what the Air Force tells you. They just want people to believe they made the right decision. In reality, many of these people end up addicted to the high and the increased productivity at the cost of not being able to live their lives normally.
It turned into an endless cycle of sleeping pills and amphetamines just to function.

Overtly false. Meth is not adderall, so your point about college is also false. The chemicals are similar, yes, but what might look like a small change in chemical structure to you actually has a huge impact on the difference between how the substances interact with our bodies.

Interesting. When gay men take meth and have unprotected chem sex for 24 hours is that an example of 'working really really hard'?

>Overtly false. Meth is not adderall
Big sorry, it's amphetamine, which is just about functionally indistinguishable (though somewhat less powerful) and is also sometimes sold as meth. Desoxyn is the brand name for methamphetamine. I always get it mixed up because it's all so similar. There are also some binders that make it absorb slower than pure amphetamine. It has all the same addiction potential and side effects, although generally adderall users take lower doses.
>Interesting. When gay men take meth and have unprotected chem sex for 24 hours is that an example of 'working really really hard'?
You may be shocked to learn that many drugs have multiple uses.
>Does meth have a high potential for abuse and addiction [...]? Does meth have a high rate of overdose deaths?
Yes to all. Although, it should be noted that this is true of caffeine, qat, cocaine, or pretty much any stimulant. Meth is special in that recreational users tend to take really high doses. LSD in fact is a little bit unique among stimulants in that it has very low addiction potential.
It's funny that you interpreted my post as if I actually endorse taking meth. Maybe I should have been more clear. If all you care about is being productive, then the logical thing to do is engage in self destructive behavior such as taking meth. Because optimizing your life around productivity is bad.

Most people have a false understanding of stress, they don't know what's the point of it or where it comes from. That's why all of what you did didn't really help.
Stress is simply like being in "emergency mode", your brain and body prepares you do deal with some challenge you're unawarely perceiving. Often this perception happens when you think of the stressor as something life-threatening, and with continuous exposure to it each day, you develop that chronic stress, and put yourself in a cycle of:
>something triggers you
>cope (the good or bad way)
>realize the stressor is still here
You have to deal with the root of the problem instead of suppressing your emotions. Don't listen to those druggie fuarrrkers, we all know that nothing they say will work on the long run, including fuarrrking meth or lsd.
Those "healthy copes" didn't work because their purpose is to make you calm down, but since you're in continuous exposure to the "perceived threat" AND because you believe that stress is a bad thing, you're stuck in that cycle.
Stress is actually good for you if you use it right. It's not just for "keeping you survived" but also it's your body making you ready to deal with any challenge, mentally or physically.
I've made a vid about this stress thing and why you should change your perception about it:

>You have to deal with the root of the problem instead of suppressing your emotions.
This means removing the stressor. Like pain, it's a response to something bad, and it is there so that you can react to the bad thing and make it go away.
If you don't think that having bad psychedelic trips or giving yourself psychosis from meth (which is the context that those drugs came up in this thread) are bad, why is intentionally putting yourself in stressful situations good?
Torpus · 2024-06-30 13:12

>why is intentionally putting yourself in stressful situations good?

again, except for the tangent about LSD, drugs are relevant for this thread not because they give relief, but because they can be used to artificially induce stress.
>You get yourself mentally and physically ready to deal with your issue, or to get rid of it.
But intentionally putting yourself in a stressful situation means creating an issue for yourself.
Sometimes you can chalk this up to training for something, but OP seems to be focusing mainly on going through extremely stressful situations to "numb" themselves.
