I hate time.

Wintermute · 2024-06-06 20:35
Do you think there is a universe without time? I can't get used to it. It doesn't feel right. I hate how long everything takes. Reading a book takes hours. I hate how you can miss out on certain events forever. I hate how you can feel nostalgic for the past but when you were living it you didn't fully appreciate it and now you can never go back. I hate how you can gain self-awareness and realize your mistakes only that you can't go back in time and the damage has been done. You can suddenly with 80 want to try a different career only then it's too late. I hate aging and how it makes living harder as your body wears down and odds for illness increase and and opportunities get fewer. I also get attached to people and hate how aging is wearing them down. I hate how I will never be able to meet certain people because they were born way before me. I just can't get used to it and this universe feels strange to me. I was able to somewhat ignore it when I was young and didn't quite feel the effects of it but now that I'm old it's brutal.

>Do you think there is a universe without time? Since the word literally means "everything that exists", I don't understand how it could even make semantic sense for more than one of them to exist. As to whether there is a frame where time does not exist, sure. From the point of view of a photon, there is no such thing as time; all events happen simultaneously. >I don't like aging Nobody likes it.

A world without time sounds painfully boring.
Agent Richard Gill · 2024-06-06 21:33
>>81355 >From the point of view of a photon, there is no such thing as time; all events happen simultaneously You could also do this by going through the event horizon of a black hole. You will appear frozen to the rest of the world and whitness the universe speed up to heat death. Congrats, you've gained immortality by killing yourself and time is no longer a concern!

>>81355 >Since the word literally means "everything that exists" I've become convinced this is some kind of cognitive defect. Can you even process the phrase "outside of the universe" or "outside of space and time"? Or do you process it like "it's a here there" or a "white black".
Netrunner · 2024-06-06 21:59
>>81360 >Can you even process the phrase "outside of the universe" <...>? Or do you process it like "it's a here there" or a "white black". Yes I would consider it a similar level of oxymoron. >or "outside of space and time" space and time are models of certain aspects of the universe. If something exists outside of space and time then it is still part of the universe, because it exists. I do believe that there are some facts of the universe that exist independently of space and time, whether that means they are "outside" of it depends on whether you mean it literally as in location-wise (which makes no sense) or metaphorically.

>>81355 >As to whether there is a frame where time does not exist, sure. From the point of view of a photon, there is no such thing as time; all events happen simultaneously. While it may seem that the photon experiences all events along its path instantaneously, this is a limit case of the time dilation formula where the proper time interval for the photon is zero. This does not negate the temporal order observed in other frames.
Jim Hilger · 2024-06-09 07:55
>>81511 Indeed, the order of events is actually an invariant in special relativity. My point is just that "amount of time passed" can be zero in some reference frames.

>>81354 > Do you think there is a universe without time? Time is what separates that what is from that what was and that which will be. Without time, will everything happen at once, birth, life and death of everything in the same instance? Or will there just be no memory of what has been and no outlook to what will be, just the now and nothing else? > I hate aging Would some sort of immortality better suit your needs? Living healthily and not aging after reaching adulthood? > I hate how you can gain self-awareness and realize your mistakes only that you can't go back in time and the damage has been done. With immortality, you will still have this issue that you make mistakes and realise them only a long time later and then cannot make them undone. > I hate how you can miss out on certain events forever. That is not cured by immortality. You can still miss that concert, that football match, that chance to ask this girl out if you live forever. Whether it would be better or worse, than for mortal beings, I don't know.

I kind of get this. I have been through too much soykaf to want those moments dragged on for eternity but for my sanity I need the good moments to never end.
Trinity · 2024-06-12 08:45
hey its been more than a century now since we've moved on to a model that refers to 'spacetime', update: where you are is when you are. new patch. get with the program. you make up 'time' as a concept, based on the structure of your nervous system, how it evolved over time. if you don't like how its making up reality, change it, or move.
Just another Random Lainon · 2024-06-13 17:17
Time doesn't exist in a video game until you play it. Maybe our reality source code can be read in such a matter.
Tyrell Wellick · 2024-06-14 03:59
Time is just a derived property. Look at how we measure time - we use one process as a standard unit and put everything else in relation. If you have 2 parallel processes you can establish time as the relative speed in which both happen.
Jean Dupont · 2024-06-14 14:56
Boy, middle age is really hitting millennials hard. Oldtroons out here getting mad at primordial elements of reality. Sheeeit just try and have some grace for once. You'll get old, it's not the end of the world!

>>81354 doesnt anyone else notice time is going faster than ever? >Its you getting older Ive noticed it since i was 16 years old that time feels irregular

>>81901 Did you just never learn basic facts of human existence like how we don't experience time linearly? How do you function, Latin?
