Im going to be homeless within the next day or 2 when i leave this hotel
Vasya Pupkin · 2024-04-01 08:20
I lived in a very toxic environment, and couldnt deal with these peoples drama anymore. I never was a rude person, but I was isolating myself for years with these family members, it kinda tore my psyche apart i was going through depression loops due to feeling trapped.
I have about over 3k about 3200 in savings. lains what should I do or what can i do.
Going back there does not interest me whatsoever, so thats out of the question

If you are a girl any guy would take you in for price of sex. If you are a guy you are out of luck.
I dont feel you gave enough information. Do you only have this money or do you also have a job? Do you plan to move far away or just another place near by?

You should probably look for an apartment today.

surely you can find one that doesn't such requirements? They may be shady but if it works it's alright.

Come to Austin, Texas. There is a lot of support for hobos here, and I can try to help you, such as allowing you to sleep in my house two days out of the month (max that my rent contract states I'm allowed to). My discord is avsneed. You can become a dog walker for Wag, or a driver for Uber, if you have a car.

I dont think you should go back. My family was not even that traumatic (for me), my mom tried very hard. But our family history is highly traumatic and my mom decided to stick by her abusers (my grandparents) in spite of knowing the awfulness of it for life and the effect that had on her was terrible. Thanks to me sticking away we actually now have a good relationship, I visit for a week once or twice a year and we call every week. But sometimes shes revealed to me in vague ways that she contemplates suicide, that im really all she has going for her, etc. She went through things that today would have made news headlines. My grandparents seem like just sweet old people now (until they start drinking). It was impossible to grow in that environment living with her, and I cant imagine for someone that isnt second down the line in that kind of trauma cycle. My mom did absolutely everything right within her grasp, and still I ended up depressed and distrustful of people just because I could see the way her mind was growing up. Her attempts to hide it were just even more revealing for me.
There is nothing worse than feeling trapped in my opinion besides literally starving or being unable to meet the most basic of needs. And I dont mean basic needs in a social contract way, I appreciate social contracts but all the time people choose to be homeless or live fay by day in motels over being trapped or cornered. Its hard to say where 3k will get you even if you are in america as its just so variable but that is definitely enough for two months rent anywhere. You may if you live on the coasts not have your own bathroom though for that amount and have to share it.
Dont ever be afraid to shoot for what you want but if you are really desperate I would look into jobs that accept ex felons and stuff not because thats what level you are at but because those sorts of jobs often arent too judgemental of why there was x gap in your employment or where you happen to be staying at in any moment. Not all of these jobs are the stereotype of flipping burgers, I and worked somewhere taking care of cats and dogs and there was many veterans, ex cons, and just people on the fringes of society from varying walks of life and were truly great people and the work was very rewarding and I always felt treated like a human from all but the upmost upper management who I rarely interacted with. Instead of thinking of pursuing "soykafty jobs" think of jobs like this where you arent directly interacting with people outside your coworkers in any capacity. Shitty or not. This might seem like an isolated instance but there is a material "why" as to this job accepting such people and its that we were willing to get bit, scratched, etc. if it meant the safety of the animals. There was many official rules to absolve them legally about how such animals should be handled, but everyone who kept working had scars from stopping fights and such. This is obviously a grave failure, many of us could see that with a fairly small sacrifice to profit such a place could be run much more safely. Either with better training or better employees. But it is what it is, I was hired and many people i learned many lessons from were hired and it gave me a lot of confidence. My job was nowhere near as stressful but I hear similar from many friends who are line cooks, a profession that also often employs those on the fringes. Its scary at first, no one who has done it can be prepared enough to do it, but you do it and you learn and it will be okay. These sorts of things and I mean it truly it does not matter who you are, its just an entry point and you will be able to do it as long as you can learn to accept your time in all honesty would not be spent better elsewhere. And maybe more importantly as long as you can formulate an exit plan to move on to better things. But I honestly think judging off your very short post , that part which is really the harder part for many, would come naturally.
Being able to survive in such an environment and leaving on favorable terms then is an opening for all sorts of things no matter your history. I dont know your history if this post sounds pessimistic keep in mind im just assuming the worst. Im sure youve heard it a million times but the essence of all im saying is to reach out, never assume you are too good for anyone or anything right now. If your 18-30 theres a whole lifetime to play superior if thats what drives you. If your worried about what others think just remember that in the end of it all everyone loves a success story in this culture, maybe one day everyone will be more wise to various systemic causes of various failures. For now though, even if day to day you face opposition and derision, any person that seems like a wall against you that you could just choke to death in their heart of hearts wants to see you win. They gladly eat up success stories from those maybe really not dissimilar to you. Maybe very dissimilar to you now but you will also be dissimilar to you in many years. All failure is erased with a "but I survived", and I mean that truly. I understand that millions of lives every day supposedly go unnoticed, that one can spend their whole life dedicated to something that none supposedly remember. It could even be something crucial and valuable and it just fades out and is never discovered again. Im sure maybe such things are the least of your worries right now, but if they ever are, ignore them if you can. This is your life, im not a romantic person and id never to tell you to romanticize your struggles. But it is your life, and the one universal thing for everyone is that it inherently will push you to your death as it does anyone. Some rich person whos never struggled with housing insecurity will idolize and unempathetically wax poetic about how their life would have been happier if they just had to struggle more. Its an infuriating thought, but it also just is what it is. Instead of worrying about the details or scope just know that, again, this is your life.
I personally think you can figure this all out. You are able to say that "going back" to a toxic environment has no interest to you whatsoever and is out of the question. That is a powerful decision to make, one that many I cant even blame at all dont make. That is not an obvious decision that is one you were uniquely able to make for yoursel. I think you will be able to see the value in where it drives you, in your mind, even when you see no point in life at all in your body.

Hi lainanon,
I feel like I'm reading a post from myself 15 years ago. The home I grew up in was riddled with fetanyl and other hard drugs, or otherwise critical people who attacked me about their soykaf lives. I got out with $3,000 and my $500 used car. I don't envy you. Infact, several of my real life friends who saved my life I met on a chan thread just like this, but the internet was less of a scary place on '08-'09 imo.
Here's how I got out of it:
I enrolled in college and got student loans but at zero family I could take the max on everything and got private student loans for housing books and food. Its just as bad of an idea then as it is now but its better than being poor and will help with the job search. Go somewhere as cheap as possible and utilize state programs.
The private student loans were the worst and ruined my life for a decade but as long as you're working you'll never have a problem. Once I paid those off, life opened up to me. I bought some nice things and live in a cheap and safe apartment now. The public debt is tied to my income and I don't worry about it because I'll never be due money if unemployed. They will be automatically forgiven after 25 years. It hurts my savings but I just pretend they don't exist and plan my budget without it and view it as a tax.
Ultimately the life I've lived up through now is relatively middle class, coming from zero. I have some savings. I don't know if that's a good idea and certainly I'd say just getting a job - any job, like other lainanons recommended is better. Even ExCon jobs or if you can have that place in Austin and lainanon can have job application stuff sent there. Those 2 days a month he's offering you are gold.
Ultimately you need to enroll in something or get a job. In these times I'd recommend the latter and start taking advantage of free resources online to learn something you like - UI/UX, Programming, IT, you're a lainanon it'll probably workout. You need something to spend all your free time on since you wont have money. I would embrace any autism and make it work for you. You could also enroll in a gym for $75/mo so you have access to water, showers, and hell can work out everyday to forget that stress and look better. Then hit that library or Starbucks and apply for jobs or find something in person.
You can do this. Do anything you can for money and leave any unnecessary possessions behind.
Here's some tips from that time I learned:
- Don't focus on the family, expect nothing, expect all interactions with them to be bad. From now on it's you and you alone.
- You need friends. Friends can help. But only temporairly. No one will solve your problems so don't expect anyone to have a magic bullet. Just be grateful for any help at all. Help them back. If you have a community of friends, I lived couch hopping all summer while school was out of session. One time I tried to stow away in dorms but the fire department came and kicked me out.
- Just accept the contracts, be a slave, work as much as possible. Even if the rules say you can't work another job, do it anyway. Money will make everything more manageable. I only got into my decent job by taking contracts part time for my direct competitors. Just don't get caught and keep your head down until you get something stable.
Good luck lainanon.

A site with a lot of info on how to make it homeless is Steal This Wiki,
This is the current version:

This is a backup:

And this is the archived original, I linked this because the section on individual cities is much more extensive than the more recent ones.

This guy is putting together a directory of abandoned houses you can squat in.

Cat Mother · 2024-04-08 08:35
I could have sworn there was a thread in DIY on how to squat but I cant find it. Going to repeat stuff Ive heard elsewhere or learned other ways, You could get a gym membership and shower there but Ive also seen people that use free water and air at gas stations to basically bathe that way. A lot of food places especially bakeries will throw food out at a certain time and you can sometimes just go in and ask if they have anything they want to get rid of. Some places you can just walk in and ask others you have to be in the back and talk to someone as they are about to throw out the somewhat stale donuts and bread. Look up dumpster diving laws where you live.

i was homeless for 8 years.
no specific advice. the point is to figure it out on your own.
Anamika · 2024-04-09 11:54
I've been there before Lain. You're lucky you have money saved up. I was totally broke. Just focus on getting any job, even fast food, take advantage of the homeless shelter programs. Not being a drug addict or felon already puts you in higher priority than anyone else there. With dedication and a little bit of luck you can get your own place in a few weeks. And if you feel like moving to Washington, I'd take you in, assuming I like you.
Hacker · 2024-04-10 05:44
Get one of these so you can use faucets that have had the handles taken off.

They installed locks on the dumpsters in my neighborhood. Homeless people have been scavenging there for years, I hear them rooting around in there at night. I see no reason to put big metal cages around them for the security and benefit of those living here, not even myself.

If I had $3200 and I was going to be homeless tomorrow, I'd try to buy some old used van to live in for a while. Then I'd go to the library and look up every food/clothing givaway and free meal place in the area. Then I'd look up how tp apply for aassistance like food stamps, ssi, medicaid, etc. Then I'd find some kind of unskilled job. Then I'd start learning a trade or skill so I wouldn't have to live like that forever.

A livable van for $3k is a tough find. Not impossible, but you'll have to be prepared for your house to breakdown any minute and vans at that price range don't last long before costly malfunctions arise.
