Quitting Chans
Erik Johansson · 2023-12-25 22:36
It was asked of me recently to make a thread about quitting going on chan websites for the new year, and to explain what I plan to do with myself in order to supplement the role that image boards in have my life. I do concur that they are a hard thing to replace for the modern man right now, especially the modern man which is not a slave to idols or passions to the point where he actually believes he gets what he calls satisfaction from them, but realizes that they do not satisfy him and that he desires to converse with his fellow man openly and productively, its only because the world is a fuarrrked system that it has to be also anonymously, if it wasnt for the evil in people we would have no need to worry about such things.
The reason its so hard to replace is because of the limited spaces where free speech can be carried out and dialog can be had amongst strangers safely and productively, whether it be digitally or not, or anonymously or not. By and large its either too dangerous or too impractical to try and raise the subjects we generally discuss on chan sites in public. Not because of any legality issues, but because everyone is such a hot headed maniac these days whether its the system or the citizens that just trying to speak openly on anything real is rife to generally either be laughed off, ignored, or you will be beat with bats.
Not everyone lands up here because they have never been out in the world, but a lot of people on chans are exactly that way. You will find though that its also a place where people go who have been around the block a lot and are fed up with the bullshit that life hands us because everywhere you turn you get the NPC clownworld brigade staring back at you and there is no fertile soil to discuss anything serious with anyone unless you are blessed enough to have real people in your life. If you do do not take this for granted but cherish it beyond measure, because there are not as many real folks as it seems and a lot of the types of people who act semi real crack under the pressure of modernity as they get older and become screw loose or die in the process. Thats what happened to all the solid types of people I used to know, they all cracked up in various ways under the pressure of the modern age and its only just beginning, we have not even reached 2025 yet let alone 2030.
You anons mark my words by 2030 the world is going to be nothing like what it is right now as I type this or what you remember. Its going to be a whole new world full of new challenges and new nightmares for us all, and hopefully well all live to see the day together. Anyone who doesn’t see this completely blind and im no special boy for seeing or saying as much its painfully obvious to a lot of people.
So ultimately I’m driving here at the fact that these image boards really DON’T satisfy us frens, thats the reality, we wish they did, but they don’t and because of that its not needed that we “replace” them, whats needed is that we evolve beyond them into a higher way of being.
Personally I am not going to replace using image boards im going to grow out of it, or die trying.
Merry Christmas anons.

i was half ironic when asking you to write this post to be very honest, but goddamn a quality post! funny to see how your durability gave way nearer the end of the oppost and you started to make typos, no offense though
>if it wasnt for the evil in people we would have no need to worry about such things
it is kind of sad, you know. i have spent some time talking to elderly who lived in soviet union era and while there was a lot of soykaf going on the general atmosphere wasn't as sharply hostile and evil as it is now. i am always skeptical about folks saying 'it was better back then', but it genuinely seems like we are experiencing another downfall and i feel like the world is going to crack and topple down in the upcoming 10-20 years. i only hope it gets reborn into something less ridiculous than this lunatic society where 'we shouldn't tolerate intolerant'. on the other hand i don't find it likely to live even another 10 years so maybe i will have to pass away on the bad note.
>dialog can be had amongst strangers safely and productively
>safely and productively
i see it from a bit different angle as i have not been able to hold a dialog in social media at all since a long time. it is not like i have not tried. it is just that every time i indulge in a some chat it ends up very miserable for me because i genuinely can't follow the pace and general lack of thought in the chat. even irc channels on libera are only so good as to give you help/advice, but completely unusable to hold a conversation.
i have only had fun time speaking in social media once in my life and i was very very young back then and on hindsight the only reason why i liked that chat so much is because i was one of the first to join and it was small so we had enough space to exchange thoughts and jokes in a meaningful manner. but then i was very very young so i didn't have much thoughts to share.
now that my perception of the world has been shaped by imageboards i just see nothing in common with the outer folks and it is very hard for me to 'fit' in.
it is not like imageboards are much better, look around, even here 80% of traffic is scripted repetitious madness devised no doubt by Demiurge. i am still not sure why i stuck with imageboards at all. i can't comprehend what value could possibly my brain find in them. maybe it's the pace, i don't know. i have never made peace with big imageboards even though i tried because they are so alike social media -- fast and mindless and evil.
do you know *why* imageboards? honestly i'm now trying to revise my past and come up with some idea why would i do something as foolish as to associate myself with imageboards and i just don't know. or maybe i know. maybe i was a failed elitist who finally found a place where he could safely pretend he fits it while he didn't fit in even a wee bit. just like he didn't fit in anywhere at all.
by the way this 'i don\'t fit in anywhere' thing is the reason why i suddenly cut my interactions with imageboards to bare minimum where i only visit lainchan and sometimes wizchan (venting there is more appropriate for a person like me) and literally abandoned all places i used to cherish because i feel like my presence brings nothing but decay. somebody told me to install bsd the other day, funnily enough, maybe it's my fate after all.
>everyone is such a hot headed maniac these days
i am not sure it was not always the case but you are very right that in modern world it is very hard to find a comfy community where you wouldn't have to deal with *them*
>they all cracked up in various ways under the pressure of the modern age and its only just beginning
please elaborate like this. the closest i have ever seen to real people are effort posters like you who take their time to write goddamn text, so it is kind of interesting to get to know what real people look like and why they crack down.
>DON’T satisfy us frens
nothing does, lain. imageboards are kind of stuffing for your brain to fill up the void that is required to be filled anyway. i always wish to spend my time doing something more productive, but everytime i end up making a post. i am not even sure who's at fault -- my brain constantly tricking me, or environment constantly seeping my energy to remain mentally stable
> grow out of it, or die trying.
what do you mean by growing up? you say you want to move your soul and mind in a totally different plane of existence, something that has been on and off my mind for a very long time, but i am unable to grasp the meaning of it all. what can this world offer that would be more sublime than a possibility to exchange a few posts without prejudices?
it's been a while since i entered the mindless mode where i keep posting something unintelligible hoping to hunt down a few effort posters to exchange something that has some meaning to it. but i have never been able to hold a prolonged meaningful dialog (being the fault myself). i guess for me a few posts are enough, but goddamn it is so rare to find somebody capable of talking
sorry for longpost, too tired to proof read hope it is not a complete mess

Was it that though? Or was it the fact that image boards are supposed to be the place where we can actually have free speech and address things without having to deal with people having as much incentive to lie or manipulate, and more incentive to put out real information to help others or at least converse honestly about the way life has become? Keep words being SUPPOSED TO, because now we have AI and sh*ll brigades out the wazzoo coming on image boards and they are actually using image boards to train the development of AI more than almost anything else. If you want to know how they program AI they just feed it the chan websites and all other social media, not just teaching it image recognition from the captchas but also giving it a flavor of “understanding” regarding how humans interact with one another so they can mimic it better. Half of the people on chans if not way more than half are literally AI or people paid to post (sh*lls) and thats the reality, so getting the fuarrrk out of here is not really leaving anything behind thats of value at this point. Thats not to mention stuff like all the astroturfing and the data mining that goes on on image boards, which are several other key reasons I am sick and tired of the state of them.
>by the way this 'i don\'t fit in anywhere' thing is the reason why i suddenly cut my interactions with imageboards to bare minimum where i only visit lainchan and sometimes wizchan (venting there is more appropriate for a person like me) and literally abandoned all places i used to cherish because i feel like my presence brings nothing but decay. somebody told me to install bsd the other day, funnily enough, maybe it's my fate after all.
Do not worry if your presence seems to bring nothing but decay to the boards, worry about if your presence is bringing nothing but decay to yourself, to God, and to Creation. Thats what really counts. Sometimes a radical change and sudden departure are needed, act accordingly.

Lets first consider how I even know about lainchan to begin with. I know about lainchan because one of my best friends growing up is a huge weeb. Hes like a lot of people here, severely mentally ill and addicted to drugs and masturbation and dissociating from reality by projecting his consciousness onto anime which ultimately built him up into becoming trans and attracted to infants. Years ago he started projecting his consciousness onto the character miku so much for so long he has permanently become stuck acting and dressing and seeing himself as miku, even asking me to have sex with him. This is a 32 year old alcoholic and junkie, who grew up as a normal kid with autism and A LOT of potential. When we first started being friends he was nothing like he is now, and we formed the basis of our friendship on our spiritual quest to understand the greater meanings and truths of existence. But now because of a lot of the things we “found out” along the way and the state of society hes become cracked up and is sitting at home with a diaper on, a butt-plug up his ass, 10 beers, a strong cup of coffee and a half ounce of kratom in his gut, along with having one lung full of cannabis smoke and the other lung full of tobacco smoke. The worst part is thats all just a function of his own personal “maintenance” if he doesn’t have all that going for him hes seriously over a barrel and would be having a full blown freak out and becoming physically ill as a result. This is what modernity is doing to a lot of people and a lot of it is encouraged and embraced as normal on these chan websites. Jannie may even take it upon themselves to shut down this post or thread just because its getting too real, ive seen it happen here multiple times before when people talked about these subjects, the posts just disappear.

But thats the what happens to people (I gave the worst case example out of everyone I know but its also the most relevant because this person is a very typical lainchanner) lets get to the how and why. The reason why is because the west is finally collapsing for real and what is described in the book The Protocols of The Learned Elders of Zion is becoming a reality more by the day. I do not know of anything else that I have ever found in almost 30 years of my life and scrubbing the floors of the internet and creation with a toothbrush to look for the best of the best (as if to say I broke my ass to find it and have tried to find things similar to no avail) that comes even close to explaining as much about the modern state of human existence in so few words. That book tells the story of our lives, to a degree that is so accurate and so literal that its no wonder its considered the most controversial book in history because its been by far one of the most accurate and honest, and the truth is always ALWAYS the most controversial and painful thing to a society of people who have no desire to embrace something as basic as the genuine nature of the human identity. Instead they would rather replace it with a lie or a distraction which ultimately takes the form of a distortion and a lie, and THAT is how people get crushed by modernity. A lot of other people I know just masturbate, practice sodomy, shoot drugs, or drink themselves to death (many already are dead, physically or spiritually) or some combination thereof. The reason why is explained in that book previously mentioned, because thats the way we have all come to face the nightmare of whats coming for society.

Epic reply, this shows your a real person who actually has a thought process and has not yet been turned into a husk like many of the posters you will see on image boards these days, the level of self awareness and self concern you expressed here is being whittled out of humanity by and large now. But your flat up wrong when you say that NOTHING satisfies us, the truth is there is an eternal satisfaction which is all around us waiting to be given and received but its been lost by way of a corruption of our own understanding of the very human identity itself. The entire platform for things like this rests in a conception of what it means to be human, because all behavior and thought patterns trickle out from there. That is why the satanic agenda is to debase the very human identity itself. Knowing yourself as being made in the image of God, that you are an eternal existence, always have been and always will be, and knowing that when its no longer suppressed and latent within us but raised to the surface and made active and implemented properly you have all the powers as Jesus tells us He did and more. As we are taught the true nature of ourselves is to be as a “Son of God” or “Children of God” and that is the only thing which will ever satisfy truly, is that help consciously and actively within us, so we can implement it into a framework of daily life that results in peace and grace of mind and body.
>what do you mean by growing up? you say you want to move your soul and mind in a totally different plane of existence, something that has been on and off my mind for a very long time, but i am unable to grasp the meaning of it all. what can this world offer that would be more sublime than a possibility to exchange a few posts without prejudices?
By growing up I mean no longer giving in to my own weaknesses in regards to petty and paltry gratifications which ultimately serve as a net negative in my life, the type of things which I have only built up a thought and behavior pattern to gravitate towards because I, likewise we all, have been raised intentionally to be in a nihilistic mind-state which is pacified and maintained from utter annihilation through rapid self destruction by a hedonistic world view and thus a hedonist behavior and thought pattern.

By growing up I mean doing real alchemy in the mind and body to change thought and behavior patterns and conceptions of the human identity which are ingrained in us by satanists from a young age to make us docile, ignorant, and inclined towards bag chasing, branch swinging, manipulating, ushering, appeasing, self abusing, and all the rest of it which ultimately leads to making a devil out of man, not a child of God. All they want is to suppress the image of God in Man to the point where it can be “truly said” that the “image” which Man reflects is truly no longer that of God but is of The Devil. God is “within us” but likewise so is The Devil “within us”. Its a struggle against ourselves to grow out of the immaturity which propagates that false bastardized abomination of the self (the devil) and to embrace the reality of our being (God). Is that not what Life TRULY offers us all? Is that not truly the ultimate reason we exist? To get back to being honest and self accepting instead of self deceiving and self hating? God does not hate himself, but you will notice very easily its obvious the devil does, in fact its part of the root principal on which they rest as concepts. You will notice God is always satisfied, but the devil is never satisfied. The rabbit hole goes deep friend.
>i guess for me a few posts are enough, but goddamn it is so rare to find somebody capable of talking
I have been one of the ones posting the most on here for the past year, and its going to truly be a lot slower without me around. I hope you know that finding people capable of talking about ANYTHING of value is exactly what the Protocols describe as being key to be whipped out of the human experience, and guess it looks like they have just about reached that goal!
Real love to you friend, your probably the realest and most legit person I ever seen post on this site. May God bless you and yours.

I share the opinions you both have. Internet was meant to be a place for people and ideas to meet and merge and it used to be that. In the old /b/ we had a total freedom and the creativity was endless. We came not to get the thing we expected to find at this place like we do on Youtube but to see and learn things we didn't knew existed. It's gone, now there is a place for everything and everything is in its place. The dead internet theory is true, it is both a cause ad a consequence of the radicalization of our world and it show even on imageboards who should have been safe from this.
All I want is to meet people who will challenge my point of view and offer me information I am lacking. I want to ask the big questions and be chalenged, but where can I do this. In reality is obviously not an option. My corpo have hired dozens of suits to hunt the employees who talk about the wrong things. There are literal paramilitary groups that will knock at my door.
You say it was better in communist countries. It probably was. A friend who come from here told me that people sometime went missing and no one who talk about it because they were afraid to be taken too. Horror movie material. But the thing is, if you don't go against the party and its power you were pretty much free to do and think as you please.
So where can I go? To closed discord and telegram channels? If they aren't open and require to log, then they are already dead and didn't even had a chance to start with.
I tried some of them and found what I expected: a self segregated place where everyone agree and you can't stay if you do not share the local consensus. This is the world of cardinal truths that coexist without contradicting each other we have been told about.
I had hopes for X. Fooled I was, once again. It's a word of approved talking heads who generate stimulis so you would leave a reaction that no one would see. I checked, 90% of my post have been seen only 2 time, one of them being me and the other a bot.
And I got dishonestly derezzed without being told which rule I broke or what post was wrong.
I tried ticktok. Surely, the tool of the communist party of China to demoralize the youth of the west would allow a bit of freedom, right? Wrong. The only way to communicate is to make a stupid dance that will allow you to give a slogan to zombies.
I tried insta. After being fed the vacation photos of random people I do not know I left. Beside on my first post, that broke no rule I checked, I got a warning because it contain a text from uncle Ted. This site is only to give happy colors to people who do not have the freedom to walk away from them.
Pretty much everything I tried is the same.
I tried going back to the forums, I tried everything I could.
The sad truth is that we are here forever. I give you 3 weeks before you come back.
And if you don't, please tell us where we can find a shelter.

I am finding my shelter in a serious study of the Western Hermetic Tradition and practicing The Abrahamic faith which has evolved over years into seeing the variants of Abrahamism as best when they are amalgamated together through an esoteric lens.
I have been blessed to find a community of people who take this seriously and you will be shown the door rapidly if you do not bring serious study and practice to the group. Its actually a group that goes back to the origins of the internet and you can find it pretty easily if you just look around.
I understand for many people the esoteric and hermetic and abrahamic life is just not going to work, but for me its what I have wanted all along.
I relate to A LOT of what you said fren, but this time I am looking to change, im almost 30 years old and im feeling ready to have a real identity and a real purpose in life, not just to cope and seek things in the wrong places.

As someone who is deeply ashamed of getting addicted to imageboards and blames them partially for wasting his life:
The key is 2 things: the frequency of new posts and the complete anonymity and lack of barriers to posting.
I used to post on forums and there if you post too much you will get derezzed for spamming. You need to think before posting because you might say something stupid and people will remember it. Imageboards give you the freedom to post as much as you want. Hell you can even pretend to be 2 differerent people arguing without having to make a new account or change IPs. You can say whatever is on your mind and it either gets ignored or maybe someone says something. Even if you get called a retard it's whatever because you are anonymous. The same person who called you a retard in one post might call you smart in the next. This frequency of posts also means that threads don't last long so you have to stay on your computer to not miss something. On forums you can make a post and return later to reply. Also we humans are visual people. Images attached to posts make imageboards more exciting than just message boards and forums.
Now what makes imageboards so addictive that I stayed on them FOR YEARS after being displeased with the low quality of posts is the brain not realizing how much time you waste because refreshing the catalog or front page only takes a second. It's similar how you can lose thousands on slot machines because every pull costs just a few dollars.

That Heredom thing? Freemasons used to be a political force, now it' a social club for fancy upper class men. It's good to make connections and that is that. Don't expect to find the secret of life in there. All this ritual thing exist because rich people get bored and rituals increase the strength of the bond you share with them and the secret exist because rich people are bored so they are looking for things they can not buy. There is nothing more. The mystical bullshit is only sugarcoating. No one expect some Poe's law fall for it but everyone do the roleplaying.
The conspiracy theory is that it is the recruitment base for the real Freemasons, do what you want with this theory.
> the esoteric and hermetic and abrahamic life is just not going to work, but for me its what I have wanted all along.
Consider becoming a monk. This wasn't a sarcasm, I was being serious. There is many different communities with different rules, you can join a monastery if you show that you are dedicated to this life. I won't but a friend of a friend did. In France.

I want to give you my point of view. When you use an identity, you have a social value. It may be quantified with karma or the internet points of imgur it may be suggestive and in the heads of the other people but you have one, they will react to what you say according to that and you will, even if it is not conscious post in a way that is good for your social value.
When you do not use an identity, you can say you are a furry, into guro and suck ponies, then post about early soviet architecture, then argue that a nuclear holocaust would be a good thing and then post chinal destination gifs. You can. Everyone can.
Of course it result in a much better experience. When a discussion happen you never know who answer to who because it don't matter, only what you have to say matter. As it should.
Images are also great because 90% of the time, we had this discussion 1000 time already and someone once made a great point that is worth mentioning. Posting a pic same time to everyone and increase the quality of the discussion. Pic related.

Sure. Freemasonry as its known today is a bastardization of what it was originally meant to be. I would never consider being a part of modern freemasonry of any variation. Likewise I do not expect any secrets to Life to be given by anything but God. I do not expect to magically transform because I stop going on chan websites, but its an integral shift in consciousness for me if I am so able to do as I hope in getting away and more than that I hope to not be wasting time on bullshit youtube. I do not know if I will ever be in Heredom but I am committed to doing a full exploration of what they are offering for people who are not members, and that in and of itself is an astounding.

I used to think imageboards were the place for people to be as honest about themselves as possible. I noticed it was the complete opposite and ironically enough even normal users managed to be less phony and facetious in their essays and written novels. The "value" in imageboards is exactly in how obnoxious, how stupid, how stagnant and pathetic you can really be. They can be more, and rarely are more, but for the lost and addicted this is exactly what 99% of their daily browsing is. Mindless brewing soykaf. Posting and reading.
I don't know what it is about social human instinct that lends itself so easily to addiction, but every auto-updating thread, every reply, every catalog refresh and every post you make is like a hit of some primordial drug that lets you waste a lifetime away in just that, feeling like you belong in a madhouse with self-centered schizophrenics plastering soykaf on walls and pissing on each other, you pissing too, screaming from the top of their lungs their egocentric thoughts on Shit That DEFINITELY Does Not Matter And Never Will. That's eight hours gone hunching like a dumbass and getting nothing done.
Look at these walls of text, for fuarrrking God's sake. Who reads this soykaf?

No one needs to read it, its fun and cathartic to type. The joke has been that I do not even have wifi at home so that I do not become addicted, but previously in my youth that most certainly was the case. Tomorrow when I go home its over, and the bullshit has got to stop.
I refuse to be here forever, I quit soykaf thats much much harder than this and its helped tremendously, this is the next step in the process.

That is a self fufilling prophecy if you make it such and shows why I should not come back because this place is full of people who believe they are that weak that they are stuck here. Its not just a meme its an expression of a self fulfilling reality if you say soykaf like that. 100% imageboards are my go to for people watching. there are at least 9 parks near my house, but none of them are nearly as entertaining as chans. lainchan.org is the only one i've found that tries to be more than a sh!tpost party. ironically, that attracts a unique flavor of sh!tposting instead.

None the less at its worst your really not people watching fren your watching an act on a stage, and the person you replied to made exact mention of one of a variety of ways in which the seemingly genuine nature of a lot of what people say on these boards is a crock. That last thing is just a joke. I personally quit browsing everything but altchans at the start of the year. But there's too much truth in saying you never get through an addiction, man never truly abandons a pleasure he has once known: he can only substitute it. It's worth keeping that in mind because if you're swapping chans for something that actually makes you happy then more power to you, but don't trick yourself into thinking an IRC addiction (etc., just one of the many) is any different or any better.

no i cannot tell just as you cannot tell, maybe i'm a poor soul seized by satan himself and tortured in a cellar to be friendly and real to you, so that i can later use this initial respect we've developed towards each other just in a few posts to infiltrate in your life and take away the God's gift you are chasing so desperately? i am not aware of any single way to tell devil and god apart. the devil is always there, always sneaking, always waiting to bite, always pretending to be the true light. nothing but unrelenting, unremitting faith in God and his goodness can save from the devil. you cannot tell apart. you can only hope you have enough of a soul to 'faith' the difference, if i can use 'faith' in such an awkward way at all
your words are so painfully true to me, i have never felt real in my life, maybe i did on some occasions, but i do not remember anymore. i can't even tell what is it to be real. and i feel that it's not my fault, that it has been taken away by force. it has always seemed too damn arbitrary, but you don't pay attention to it as a child or teenager. i've just got a brief feeling that i was a puppet all along, but i think i've got to get rid of it, because i *did* live and *did* things you are supposed to do, except i have never truly identified my feelings about it as joy. i don't know. maybe it's what it's supposed to be after all. but on hindsight i can't tell i have ever enjoyed what i was doing. rather, i usually didn't end up miserable. util i grew up, huh. damn it. the only thing i have ever *really* enjoyed, the only thing i have ever unambiguously identified as joy is the feeling of beating a mathematical challenge. but then after growing up the time that belongs to me has been taken away, so i can't enjoy it anymore. so much for it. God said you should be happy with what you've got so i'm not up to complaining, not in $current_second at least. he gives, he takes.

You'll get to experience life without an internet connection and after a period of uneasiness ('detox') you will feel excited, great and wonderful, like every turn is a turn into a new adventure, where you don't know what to find except something new. The world is your oyster, barrelboy.

I'm so angry at myself for having wasted YEARS on imageboards. I don't understand how I didn't see it sooner how it's all surface level discussion and brewing soykaf. If there are no quality standards, no moderation beyond removing spam, how can I expect any quality discussion? Any reasonable person will instantly realize they are wasting their time by how short and lacking any substance the replies are. I was wasting time talking to anonymous people instead of building real life relationships.

Its not hard to replace at all, just read books - any books. Poetry, novels, philosophy, whatever is on your wishlish - on your steadily increasing shelf and on kindle.
I dont really think constant communication, constant desire to "share your opinion" is a real need. It is a fake manufactured desire, similiarly to sexual desire (because physical need to "clean off your pipes" is real, but doing it in context of having casual sex with random woman - totally fabricated by modern hypersexualized society. Similiarly with need to share your opinion - people before the internet lived fine without it.) In the context manufactured need imageboard is not much better than being twitter/instagram addicted normal person - on the rush to constantly "update your status" like its a second job.
Especially if you find yourself lurking much more than actually posting anything (like i am), it can be replaced with reading books more easily. And in pauses between reading just stare at wall, or write in journal.
Any time you feel the need to talk with someone - just write in your diary instead, paper will take anything you dont even need to care about post limits. I argue a year of such "isolation" and you will be better off by it

>constant desire to "share your opinion"
That's a real problem for me.
I started reading a book for the first time in ages and I felt lonely not being able to talk about it.
Any time something happens in my life I want to talk about it.
Might be because I don't have much confidence in my smarts and decision making.

I was the opposite. I had quite the group of friends at one point in my life. Friendships that lasted for years and years then all of a sudden I started to lose those said friends one by one. I was betrayed by everyone who turned a leaf on their own beliefs and because I stayed the same I wasn't accepted any longer. Everyone got sucked into the vacuum of social status due to social media and all of the norms that came with them. Nobody wanted to hang out with me any longer because I wasn't playing the game trying to build "social credit" with the plebeians of our local communities. I was only seen as the weird "computer nerd" who wasn't like everyone else. Yet still for the first couple of years of barely having anything to do with me if they saw me out on a walk or at the store they'd still ask me for "tech support". At first because I was willing to try to rebuild distance with some of them, especially my childhood friends. I knew these guys for close to 20 years. Shared some of the best moments of my life with them. I attempted to get in touch only to be ghosted by them with no explanation if I tried to confront them in public the next time I'd see them. Even to the lengths where I'd be walked right past without notice even if I tried to call out to them. Only to be completely ignored and shunned. I didn't act a specific way or try to be an elitist or any sort. I simply just didn't participate in the whole social media craze in the late 2000s/early 2010s. Living in a smaller town where everyone is in everyone else's business I was singled out for being "weird" and different than everyone else for the stupidest reasons. The experience that I had growing up and in my community was just as similarly portrayed in media during the 80s and 90s with the jock bullies, cliques, and so many of the other tropes that you would typically see. I was familiar with imageboards by the mid 2000s and had came across other BBS communities online as well. Was introduced to 4chan in 2004 by one of my friends who ended up moving away shortly after. I always wondered if he would have went the way of the others. Never heard from him again after 2006 when a forum we both got on was taken down. He also just wasn't active any longer on IRC either. So, who knows? Anyways, my point that I'm trying to make is that even though I was immersed into imageboards and other forms of talking anonymously online I also had a life outside of them. I had a healthier balance. Until all of the social standards that I grew up knowing had completely shifted for the worse. It wasn't until the early 2010s that I started browsing imageboards practically every single day. When I go too long without being on them with trying to cut the so-called addiction I started to grow more bitter and angry. I think it's due to the lack of socialization more so than the addiction. I'm not trying to claim I'm not addicted, I absolutely am. I'd be a fool to try to lie to myself on that aspect. I have been somewhat successful at limiting myself to which imageboards I do browse and self filtering threads that I'm willing to post in or actually am interested in instead of just anything or everything. Just as a lot of others here though, I can understand that there's a real decline and it's hard to just leave for good. There's no real alternative online for communication like this. Sure, we can make our own personal pages, use IRC, forums, and try our hardest to live as some of us used to. Society is terminally ill and fuarrrked beyond belief. Most people that would actually be a good fit to become friends are just so scattered across the world that it's impossibly rare for any of us to ever cross paths to truly build that real life connection. Plus there's cultural, age, language, and other barriers that unfortunately hinder this as well. I'm probably just rambling on at this point but I just am speaking what's on my mind at this moment while reading through this thread. I hope everyone ITT has some type of luck and can figure out what balance is best for them going forward into 2024.

actully, i'm pretty good with all my 'acquaintances' staying on imageboards. i don't have anything in common with you crying whining nonfat-soykaf drinkers just as have nothing in common with practically anyone else. it's not like i'm not a crying whining nonfat-soykaf drinker, i absolutely am, but still i cannot relate to any single person on imageboards. everyone has some bullshit to himself i just can't wrap around my head.
tldr; no thanks, i wouldn't like to make friends with any of you IRL. it's better when i can close the tab and have you gone for as long as i need to stop seething

Imageboards are BAD. I wish I have never found these places! None of these places has helped me expand my worldview in the bestest of senses. It has never helped me to accept the strangeness of life and to finally be able to connect to those wonderful people that make this life so interesting or help me enjoy the funposting and cakes together; it has never helped me to look beyond the dogmatic neo-communism that's been forced-fed to me my entire life and surely has never helped me in discovering new views of politics; it has never strengthened me or helped me furthering that understanding and finding that I really was not alone in this journey; they never helped me on my path of occult and esoteric understanding and it never gave me the opportunity to post unfiltered and uncensored content that showed the crimes done by those who think that they can rule over this earth with their tyranny of evil.. and don't get me started on this dumb chan that is centered on the patroness of the future. YUGH!~
All that chans have ever done, is help me feel more alone and isolated in this society that demands conformity to hierarchical group-think! It's never been a place where I, as somebody who's always had a different view of life and never was able to fit in the box that was designed for him, which subsequently forced me to live on the fringes of society, was able to find his friends in his experience of life. It has never helped me connect to these sameminded individuals, who know there's more to life than what the standardized media channels are broadcasting on a daily basis and are demanding of me to do the same. No sir! Imageboards are the bane to my existence!!! It's just best if I quit them FOREVER and just isolate myself, don't connect to my people and wait for others to solve the problems for me.
FORK CHANS! FORK EM!

>just isolate myself
Which is technically just as bad. Theoretically, people are known to be able to isolate themselves, monks of old for example. However, they were not deprived of socialization completely. I have two theories I can not prove or refute. One says that if you go by isolation route you become a literal animal, bitter and hostile, which is not bad, but does nothing good to help you survive out there. The other says it cripples your mind because that's what God meant when doing us. I don't think isolating yourself is bad or impossible, but my feeling about it are still somewhat (or completely?) controversial, so if you have any input...

Honestly, I think it is worse to try to fit yourself somewhere where you do not belong - like a mismatched puzzle piece - it only leads to more hurt. It seems wiser to instead choose alternatives.

I've decided that I want to start anew, fresh, from ground zero as my current progress is nonexistent at this point
I'll have no social circles that know me anymore (or at least they knew what I wanted them to know), I won't take part of any either, I'll go solo like always
for others, if you wish to help yourself, here are some suggestions:
-delete/disable all social media that isn't pure information and/or news (including image boards, IRCs and any form of communications)
->the resoning behind this is to stop wasting time and to start doing something, most of the people round here are oversocialized anyway, including me
-get a journal and keep track of day to day logs (i.e. amout of push-ups you did, things that you bought, amount of money left, information that you acquired)
->paper and pen, not digital
-limit internet usage, use compartmentalization for software and preferably use a self-made distro of Linux for computers
->a lot of internet usage fries your brain
->self made can be more (or less) protective than what you can find on the internet, so it's best to make your own thing
-clean up as much as you can (your mind, your body, your house, your room, your soul, etc etc)
->only pigs live in rubbish, dirt and mud, don't be one
-change your mentity from "I have to do x" into "I get to do x"
->positive mentality is rewarded with positive feelings and positive outcomes, be happy
-don't trust anyone, including yourself
->I have a saying: "overestimate your enemy twice and underestimate yourselves twice for the best strategy" - this came from coordinating teams in milsims as prior strategies were failing due to lack of proper consideration of enemy power and prowess, just doing tactics over tactics with an unstable strategy
-nobody cares, good luck

Most of my post was sarcastic; I think chans are one of the greatest things of this Millenium. The pitfall, for me at least, is the time spent on chans to the point where they become a replacement for IRL interactions. What helps for me is to see chans as a tool for social interaction and try to not let them replace the social interactions IRL. It does become troublesome, when the people IRL are not up to par with the people you can meet in these great places. Honestly I believe that these places attract the greatest minds of our generation and I echo your sentiment that one has to cherish these people IRL that are on the same frequency as you are because it's difficult to meet them in this world full of clown brigades. However, it's never too late to meet new people, and when you have the will for something, the way towards will appear.
The part about totally isolating myself was sarcastic as well since I'm not able myself completely.
>Does isolation cripple the mind because God intended it so?
It could be. It depends on what mind you are talking about. My view is that most of the suffering in the 'developed world', stems from our overdependence on the mind. The mind is just another one of those great tools the human has to its disposal, but just with any great tool, when you become too dependent on it, it overtakes your life to the point where you suffer, because the tool uses you, instead of you using the tool.
I think that's kind of the red line in it; see it as a tool that helps you towards a goal. So, see chans as a tool to interact with people, with the ultimate goal of meeting people you are up to par with.

Honestly, it would be very dumb for me to completely quit using image boards because they have been the only form of social interaction for me for years. I'm already insane enough and I don't want to make it worse by completely isolating myself from the outside world. I believe that there is a reason why monks live in communes at monasteries (There are other practical reasons, too!).
Switch · 2024-01-14 04:42
I lurk on altchans periodically, mainly out of habit. Sometime there is interesting stuff, but yeah overall it's just noisy, always was. I'm ok with imageboard and the old internet decaying, like some of the posters here I'm entering my third decade in this world. Things change, not always in the direction we wish it would.
But you know, I think that if you're in that process of genuinely learning about yourself and the world arround you, trying to be better and seeking freedom, you'll be ok as long as you're able bodied and sharp minded.
Life is too short and genuine relationships are too precious to waste it all away.
My life didn't turn out the way I'd wish it did, but I've still got enough energy and acquired some experience. I have big dreams, but I have that one goal that make me move my body and mind: to be free!
10 years ago I got away from the computer screen, from refreshing the catalog. I allowed myself to be exploited, backstabed, heartbroken, humiliated. To live is to suffer, it's the only way to grow, to know what you want from it and what you don't. To know what to expect from other.
Imageboards, the internet, even books, they're great, but they won't make you understand life.
XERXES · 2024-01-14 23:00

I quit Discord recently and I'm already more productive and feel better in general. But I don't think I can quit chans or other sites where I get minimal social interaction because I would go crazy from loneliness. I don't know if it's healthy to live like that, maybe there's like a threshold that I need to get over and then I'll be able to function normally without any social interaction online or otherwise. Which would be my ideal goal. I just don't want people around me influencing my mindset in any way because I don't like any of them. I already gave up any naive hope I still had left about meeting like-minded people.

A year ago, I got so fed up with chans I said "Screw it, I'm gonna do a youtube channel experiment". To my surprise, just by rambling about my hobbies with no editing I got some views. 3 vids have thousands of views, while the average ones have 100-500 views, and all have some comments.
Unfortunately, I soon realized nobody shared my deeper interests. The vids I considered unimportant generated lots of discussion, while the stuff that truly mattered got ignored. I would share some ideas I considered a big deal and get 3-4 comments that just said "Thanks I enjoyed listening to it". Even now, if I wanted I could grow the channel, but only if I focused on entertainment as opposed to learning or discussion. You learn that YT is only for "content" -- that ugly word we see everywhere now. It's called "content" because it makes us content: "empty-headed, facile, not happy but not unhappy".
Anyway, it feels so bizarre and contrary, but to become "your true self" you have to isolate and pursue "the highest part of your soul" (I know it sounds like hippie garbage). Most likely, what you value most will be insipid and banal to 99.9% of people. But you gotta pursue it anyway. Watching YouTube and browsing 4chan isn't gonna cure that void inside you -- it's just gonna drown it out with noise for a little while. That's all those sites can do.

Why are you discouraged by the fact that others don't appreciate the ideas you find important?
Surely your own belief is enough to motivate you to make these ideas available through videos or some other means.
Unnamed · 2024-01-15 14:13

not him but no views defeats the point of making videos and so its discouraging especially when you know low engagement will push you out of visibility which means the algorithm hinders you reaching your audience.
Its amazing when you find a 7 year old video solving your specific problem with only 60 views and in that moment you are infinitely grateful that it exists but it also not surprising when people think not worth the effort. Same time they are objectively higher value because nobody else fills that niche while shallow mainstream videos have enough copycats and it doesnt really matter if you vomit out another unless your goal is generating an income.

> Watching YouTube and browsing 4chan isn't gonna cure that void inside you -- it's just gonna drown it out with noise for a little while. That's all those sites can do.
That's true. i've been binge watching youtube so hard these last few months i lost a lot of my skills and the motivation to get closer to my true self. it's what that platform is for, dehumanizing people and just keeping them pacified. So i'm just leaving YT entirely. i have a lot of downloaded vids that are actually meaningful so i'll just use those, i know there's enough content offline to support my pursue of creating things with my own hands.
And yeah, sadly most people won't understand what you value the most and think you're just boring or weird, but the thing is that they will probably never be able to grasp how those things make you feel. it's like touching the stars, that's what doing what i truly want to do feels like.
Pulse · 2024-01-15 15:41

Yeah pretty much.
Its hard to explain to people who have never done youtube before, but each video is a serious time investment that could have gone into something else. So every time you make a video, you have this idea in your mind "okay please get X number of comments/views so I don't feel like my time was wasted". And if that doesn't happen, well... yeah you wasted your time. Of course the topic still matters to you, but making the video was a waste of time/effort since it didn't reach anybody which was the point.
